that happening any time soon.
I know this is offtopic but damn, good job Garry for having the 8th highest played game on steam
Threads like these just make me want to break down and cry when if I want game that's not on steam I have to shell out $90-100 for it. Just another reason why I love steam so much I guess, but even then some games on steam we still have to fork out extra for.
Hello from Australia, We pay $110 for new games, and $120 for games from asshole companies, COD4 is still $120 at Eb games.

This. Seriously, why complain about forking over the extra $10? It's not likely that the price of new games will decrease back down to $50 unless, what was said above, consumers stop buying video games for a long period of time, which will never happen. Either wait until the price drops or

Holy shit. Your lack of commas just made hinting at Valve so much better.

I don't see what is so hard to understand about this.
The majority of developers are only charging $50 for games. Only a select few douchebags are slapping on the extra $10.
Also, $10 can go a long way, especially in a steam sale.
Honestly when was the last time you bought a new pc game? Considering the frequency of the awesome Steam sales, I generally wait a few months before I buy anything. Last thing I bought (which was a mistake) was BC2 at release. Before that? The orange box on release.
everything in between was bought during sales, it saves an extraordinary amount of money and on great games.
Listen to his man.
Really, the only disadvantage of getting a game later is, that there isn't all the hype around it, and there might not be so many players in multiplayer.
However, most good games have plenty of people in mutliplayer for years after coming out.
Then, there are only advantages appearing;
The average price of the game goes down.
You can always spot out Steam sales, or some other shop sales, for massive discount.
The good games get patched, and actually better over time. Even if there is no extra content added later, at least balance and bugs are often fixed.
You are more likely to run the game smoothly, as you probably have newer graphic card drivers, or you maybe even underwent a hardware upgrade over the time, as the game graphics stop being so actual.
$60? SC2 is fucking $90 is Australia and MW2 is still at $100. Stop complaining.

don't be ridiculous
large companies are expected to turn out profit and stand to lose a great deal if their profit margin drops by a lot
if you're a company which has been making games for the past decades, you gonna have to raise prices or you're gonna lose out due to inflation which would prevent the company from growing
The good thing about pc gaming is that you don't have to pay for games unless they're online <3

probably what's causing all that DRM and profit loss for companies
yeah it's "good"

If they can't make money from it maybe they should stop making games so everyone can spend their time on more productive things.
I really hope Portal 2 will be under 40€.
are you mad? Back in my day, action 52 cost 300 dollars!
and that was the biggest pile of shit out
You have something against Action 52 ??
It has liek 52 gaemz in a s1ngl3 k4rtig3 d00d so that shit PWNZ j00!
Just kidding but really 300 bucks for a game.....Fuck ...
I don't mind paying 60 bucks if the game is PC exclusive, like Starcraft II.
it was worth my £35 i dont feel cheated.
I'm not a huge fan of the $60 PC price, but the companies using the extra $10 are very smart businessmen. Companies like Activision are taking what the consoles started and very smoothly moving them to PC because there's a market there both willing and eager to pay that price for games. Although I've seen new copies of mw2 go for $50 these days, you'd really need a strong backlash to change the $60 trend.
Games aren't usually ported to the PC.. it's usually vice versa.
A rising number of PC games these days are ported. Gears, Borderlands, mw2, GTAIV, BioShock 2, Blacklight, etc.
Here we pay 60 euro's / 65 for new games.
:)
Why can't you people accept the fact that Videogames will always be fucking expensive? It has always been expensive. Those who moans over the price of video games obviously do not have a job.
Here in Luxembourg, you pay in our national stores usually 50 € to 70 €. That means 65 $ to 92 $.
Seriously what the heck? Games used to be cheaper.

Thank god there is steam.

Shut up punk *music plays on*
$80-110 AUD here :sigh:
Don't even get me started on Collectors...
Yeah I buy full price games very rarely, my only exception is for Valve games. Other than that I usually buy them when there are great sales.
Activision and Ubisoft are the only two companies I've seen selling PC games for $60, and that only applies to their blockbusters. I always hoped that $60 would only be the pricepoint for the first year or two of this generation, but it seems that it's here to stay.
Unfortunately, there's not much I can do about it other than voting my wallet and buying good deals on Steam. I just hope Valve doesn't go over to the $60 dark side as well...
50-60€ in Finland, not including the occasional 70€ games/versions/bundles
Just stop buying the crappy Activision/Ubisoft titles.
they will keep doing that if the tards doesn't stop.
you guys understand that videogames have always been expensive too, right
do any of you even remember how expensive n64 games were? (probably not, considering we were all kids)
they generally retailed at 80USD at release because of the cost of the cartridge
The good thing about pc gaming is that you don't have to pay for games unless they're online <3
So you only play legally acquired free games? If so, you're missing out on a lot. If not don't advocate piracy here, or you will probably be banned.
Excuse me, all the new games have been 60 euros a pop forever here.
MW2 was really disappointing. $60 for the game and then tons of extra money for the map packs...
I think valve perfers to do the huge sales after a few months of the game being out because they get even more sales that way. Other retailers dont notice that selling a game at 25 dollars rather than 50 can increase the amount of sales by 3000 percent (L4d Christmas Sale). It generates more profit and more people end up owning the game making them happy. It is win win for both.
Stop paying for them then, who really cares if they stop making them? Go outside and play a real game ffs.
