I'm not a huge fan of the $60 PC price, but the companies using the extra $10 are very smart businessmen. Companies like Activision are taking what the consoles started and very smoothly moving them to PC because there's a market there both willing and eager to pay that price for games. Although I've seen new copies of mw2 go for $50 these days, you'd really need a strong backlash to change the $60 trend.
A rising number of PC games these days are ported. Gears, Borderlands, mw2, GTAIV, BioShock 2, Blacklight, etc.
hello i am Reimu and i don't understand how game development works
There should be a standard price like $45 dollars for new games. After out 1 year $35. Then after 2 years $25. After that, if the game is still popular, they can keep a $25 fee
It was pretty badass when I bought Killing Floor at release for like 14 euros or something.
If the game is good and a PC game (not a port) I have no problems paying 60€. That said I am yet to see the games for that price here in Sweden, they usually cost 499SEK (which probably is more than 60$, but they all cost like that, so for some reason MW2 cost like the others and not more).
Example of game that is worth 60€: Starcraft 2
Example of the opposite: MW2
Agreed to above, even though I picked up Starcraft 2 for 40 euros hehe!
Publishers should let their games be sold at any price. PC gaming is a free market with no restrictions.
Give me a honest, non biased answer to why console's have to pay more then PC gamers
Because they actually do.

is starcraft 2 worth the price? im not sure, because it has activisions name on it and is a trillogy
Why can't you people accept the fact that Videogames will always be fucking expensive? It has always been expensive. Those who moans over the price of video games obviously do not have a job.
Of course not! They still rely on mommy and daddy to buy their video games.
Let me price some games for you guys.
Modern Warfare 2: A penny
Bad Company 2: $5
Left 4 Dead series: $40 per game
Splinter Cell: Conviction $40
Black Ops: $3
is starcraft 2 worth the price? im not sure, because it has activisions name on it and is a trillogy
Yeah it is. The trilogy part is a bit of a ripoff (if the expansions are full-price), but the games is awesome and polished (Blizzard style). The campaign isn't very long but it's good (though I'm not sure I prefer it over the original campaign). Then there is the editor that is going to churn out loads of great custom maps. The multiplayer is what you would expect out of a Starcraft, balanced and polished.
So yeah, the trilogy part is a bit meh, but yeah it's worth it (this is all personal opinion of course). Also I found it at 50€ instead of 60€, so if you look around a bit you should be able to save a few $/€/whatever.
Doesn't Valve get some money for MW2 sales?
Valve gets all games on steam for free. Check out one of their profiles with their 1000+ games.

Err, thats not what he meant, he means they get a % of the profit of the games sold on steam.
Err, thats not what he meant, he means they get a % of the profit of the games sold on steam.
Still, all the games on steam for free would be a good enough pay for a month for me.
Honestly when was the last time you bought a new pc game? Considering the frequency of the awesome Steam sales, I generally wait a few months before I buy anything. Last thing I bought (which was a mistake) was BC2 at release. Before that? The orange box on release.
everything in between was bought during sales, it saves an extraordinary amount of money and on great games.
Bought Just Cause 2 and both Left4Deads the day I could preorder them... Though a large majority of my games are impulse buys. I saw them before and thought they would be worth a shot, plus there's the need to buy it that instant because the sale will end.
Games go on sale = People buy game... A lot
Unless it's a game I really want, I just wait for it to fall into the £10 - £20 category. It's usually not a problem anyway because Steam is nice and cheap.
I love how people continue to blame Bobby Kotick personally for everything they're unhappy with.

Kotick is the root of all evil in the gaming industry.

Who's the Yin?
Who's the Yin?
Valve I guess
No, it's BioWare.
Games are still at 40-50 euro here ( in the netherlands ) and i DL most of them anyway ( except valve games ).

Quick, everyone! This problem has been going on for a long time, and I'm recognizing that fact!
Now that we've acknowledged that, don't do anything! Really guys, if it's been going on that long, it obviously can't be changed!
And forget the fact that you may have better things to pay for like food, or your house! Just spend it all on video games!
Woo!
ying is gabe Newell , yang is bobby kotick
starcraft has a short single player? how many multiplayer maps are their?
im all for the community making a shitload of content, but when there is little content to start with priced at 40 or more quid i get angry
What. Seriously, CoD:MW2 took me maximum 5-7 hours to complete. SC:Conviction took 2-3 days. What the shit is that? Talking about console games, here in Moscow, they cost 80-100 bucks which is seriously ridiculous. Also, I'm fucking pissed at Blizzard. They told that there won't be any monthly fee for Starcraft 2 anywhere. Russia is so special they had to fucking do it only here. If they try to reduce the amount of piracy here then they're fucking wrong.
You're not special Korea has a thing like it as well.
No, it's BioWare.
Nah. Bioware makes good games but if you've ever seen a Steam sale it is quite the opposite of Activision/Ubisoft's $60 games.
Who honestly here wants to pay $10 more?
Not me. :v:
Well the Majority of PC games are still 50 and there are some Console games that instantly start out at 50, so I mean its really only fair. Not saying that I want to even pay 50 for a video game but its a Hobby and Drug and the companies know if you really want the game you'll pay an extra 10 bucks for it.
How come video game publishers charge $60 for new games when new DVDs typically cost $20-30? Both movies and video games these days have similar development costs.
I hate how Walmart over prices games. I could go to Walmart right now and point out dozens of games that aren't even worth $50, 40, and 30 price tag. Especially Call of Duty 4. It's been like three years since it's been released and they still charge like $40 for it. CoD 4 isn't even all that great. It's campaign is too short and the multiplayer is broken.
I never saw games coming out for $60 before, it used to be 40 or 50 at max.
