The army still has flamethrowers. They just don't deploy them.
If there was another jungle war there's a good chance you'd see them on M113s or used by engineers for non combat duties (clearing bush).

This too. I was deeply saddened by the fact that in MW2 they decided to make it a 3 round burst weapon. I had expected some kind of super high firerate, CQB-master gun.

Two fold:
1. Perception: Recoil never seems as bad to the person watching as it does to the shooter.
2. In promotional videos like these, they often use ammunition with a reduced charge, which creates less recoil.
