That first zombie picture really looks like the zombie from L4D.
Look, another uninspired game in an already oversaturated genre! Sorry if it sounds harsh, but I'm fucking tired of zombies.
I bet you're tired of RPGs and FPSs too!
for a free game. this might be good. i mean. if you look at other *free zombie games. the graphics resemble n64 and are very simple usualy very dull games. but what im seeing here. at least the game has decent graphics. and for free looks worth it...
Oh, so just because it's free, means we're not allowed to criticize it? Maybe if he follows our advice, it will turn out good. Also, what's the reason behind this game? 1. Apparently it's not to appeal to the fans (Since apparently we shouldn't criticize it). 2. Then it must be for getting attention from the public and getting new fans, oh, but a poor game will just do the opposite of that. 3. Then it might be for a portfolio, I guess I would be impressed if someone came to me showing off this work, well, maybe I would if it actually had some gameplay. Overall, a bad game is never good. Also, typically people announce the idea behind their game before they start showing off details (As to prevent how people are acting right now). If he hasn't announced it, then it makes me think that there really is none, or if he has, then it's something so small and indistinguishable that no one has noticed. Maybe the idea is the thing that is said under the picture in the OP?
Everything can be used as a weapon, drive through lotsa zombies, find out why there are zombies
Well, if I wanted to do that, I should just start up Garry's Mod, load up CSC_Desert, spawn some zombies, vehicles, and guns, and do that right now. Or play one of the countless other games that have guns and zombies, and some with vehicles too. Not only that, but most games have that as a detail in their game, not the entire idea behind the game. (I seem to recall another rant I made about another game that had something that should have been a detail, as the core idea in their game) Basically, this game just seems so hollow at this point. He/She doesn't have to even add any features to fill up that gap, all he/she has to do is tell us what the point of this game is so that we have something to look forward to. I should Email him/her.
I bet you're tired of RPGs and FPSs too!
Zombies are unimaginative. I get tired of mowing down the same gurgling, lumbering, moaning masses in every game I play. There practically hasn't been a game the last decade that has not had zombies in it. Most of the time, they just feel like an excuse to make simple AI and not have to think too hard about making a creative-looking enemy. I understand there's some creativity involved in making an entire game based around zombies. There's creativity involved in making nearly any game. But how many zombie games does the world need? I can definitely name 10, probably 20+ offhand. They're just not interesting any more. [editline]08:16PM[/editline]
If you don't like it when it comes out then uninstall it and quit fucking complaining
What the fuck is with this "if it's free it's impervious to criticism" mantra? It makes no sense.
It's free, it looks fun, it's freeroam. I really see no problem at this point.
Zombies are unimaginative. I get tired of mowing down the same gurgling, lumbering, moaning masses in every game I play.
Ok, not everyone else is.
It's free, it looks fun, it's freeroam. I really see no problem at this point.
I don't eather. Some other guy mentioned spawning zombies in gmod and getting in the jeep...How could you compare that and its shitty physics to a game like this? Did you even watch the last, latest video? Or did you see zombie and go "Aw fuck this, it doesn't matter how awesome this game is it has zombies in it, i don't like it."? People, even on this very forum, jizzed and still do jizz waterfalls over games like postal 2. Postal 2 is shit compaired to how this game looks, and i would PAY for this game if it wasn't free, i really don't see what all the hate is all about. And it's not about "Oh it's free so it can't be criticized" That's fucking stupid. It's that it's an amazing, free game, and IT'S NOT EVEN FUCKING DONE YET, and you guys are ALREADY throwing it in the trash as if it was an $80 fucking game that a 5 year old made. Because it has zombies in it. Or whatever. This game looks better than Half Life 2 in terms of physics and graphics and people still like that? I don't know what your guys' deals are, daddy probobly yelled at you so you came in here to nitpick at an awesome game or something. If you're not going to play it fine, get out, we don't care. I'll be playing it. I'll probably even find a place to donate to him if he doesn't sell it. Guys got used to "Awesome games" like crysis and shit and don't want to give people like this a chance, you see development videos and pictures from 5 months into it and immediately throw it down the drain and criticize it to hell... In other words, you're the kind of people that make it so we can't have fun games with no linear storyline to it, sandbox games that let you do whatever you want. Which is what this is planning to be. Which is why it's original. Every other game out there has the same boring, linear story line because if it doesn't, you say it has an "empty" feel to it, say it's shit etc, and no one wants to make them. :Getout: Don't care if it works or not, just do it.
I'm pretty sure it's not even anywhere near done so I really don't see the point in formulating a 5 paragraph bash session on pre-alpha footage. He's obviously progressing as he goes, and obviously not done yet, it looks like if he keeps working on it with 100% effort then it is going to be great.

An opinion on an unfinished, unpolished, unreleased game. There still is no point whatsoever.

'kay. Just, you know, games like Minecraft or Natural Selection 2 are in alpha and are clearly something special. Original concepts, excellent ideas, etc. I'm certainly going to keep an open mind about this game. Who knows? Maybe I'll be wrong about it and this will be the best zombie game ever to grace the green pastures of earth. But until then, I can give whatever damn impressions I please, negative or otherwise.
You know what was really special when it was in development? Spore, and we all know how THAT went.
looks good!
looks good!
Rated heart for being the first nice comment in a long chain retarded argumentative posts
looks absolutely awesome... of course the buildings look kinda shitty and he doesnt have terrain but its wip...
People really need to learn that this is a thread to discuss the game and post your opinion, not just to praise the game. Anyone who doesn't think the game will turn out good, are just as welcome here as those who think it will turn out good. I'm personally of the opinion that this will turn out mediocre, simply because there's nothing exciting to me on display right now. I would love to be proven wrong, but that's just my opinion.
it has potential there's a lot of work to do though
does anyone know if this game has a forum?
you guys realise it probably wont be free, well at least not on the 360 microsoft wants to make money out of fucking everything, they'll probably force them to slap a 600 points or higher tag on the game itself hopefully that wont keep them for releasing it for free on pc though
It won´t be free for the 360, because it´s planned as an XBLIG title and those come with pricetags of 80, 240 and 400 points (atm). This game looks gorgeous - sure it´s not perfect, but what do you guys (those that complain) think the dev will be doing the next couple of months? This is a work in progress, and since i had an eye on it for a while now, i have to say there is fantastic progress with this game. I also like the idea behind the game - playing a lonely character whos sole aim in live is to have as much fun as possible (mostly with zombies). This has the potential to bring some completely new game mechanics! For the graphics - this engine is just great and i think the best engine i have seen so far in the XBLIG scene (altough there are some other projects in developement that also look fantastic). There is still a lot of work to be done, but i think the engine itself is almost finished. Just my 2 cent. cheers, Gerald
I think to properly 'review' a half-complete game based on in-development shots you really have to put it into context. Below are some links to other Zombie games available on XBLIG (Xbox Live Indie Games): I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz-TQcdXDJU Zombie Armageddon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xobzACSwqz4 Yet Another Zombie Defense http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DevdNxvGs3Y Zombie Estate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzyKQH04mQQ The top link there is for the best selling game on XBLIG! I've been following the progress of Dead Shift for some time and it's shaping up to be one of the most professional looking XBLIG games out there. It's also quite an achievement for a single developer, working with free tools to create a game that looks this good and to make it run on the 360 is a feat in itself (for those who aren't developers, XNA on the 360 is a fine art when you want to delve into 3D). You have to remember this game is made by a single person, has virtually no budget and is developed in his spare time. This is a true entry level indie game and is how many indie developers start out. We've been spoilt with some great indie games over the past few years that have been made by huge teams and have been in development for years, or cost a small fortune to make and as I mentioned at the start of my post this really needs putting in context with the games it'll be competing with on the marketplace.
Rated heart for being the first nice comment in a long chain retarded argumentative posts
the game actually looks good for me too
Guys, 1. The game isn't done yet. 2. It's going to be free. What's the problem? Really?
Your first point is correct, however a game being free doesn't make it a better game.
Look, another uninspired game in an already oversaturated genre! Sorry if it sounds harsh, but I'm fucking tired of zombies.
It's hardly an oversaturated genre when not a single developer has managed to nail what people want yet, despite having all the technological and monetary and talent resources to do so. It speaks volumes when the best zombie games we've gotten so far, have been mods. The best commericial offering in the genre so far, has been L4D, which to be honest, is underwhelming at best. The sad thing is, there is no legitimate reason that a developer won't tackle the "zombie game that everyone wants". It's a massive fucking cash cow that's waiting to explode. Seems to me that most mainstream developers that actually have the ability to tackle a project like that, are more content with rehashing the same shit over and over again for a safe buck.
This looks promising.
Good zombie game, part XXI: 1. based in a city 2. not to many weapons 3. co op/multiplayer 4. base building (why not) 5. decent graphic engine 6. good gameplay = very very very good..

Not just guns, but using objects or anything as a weapon, like in dead rising.
