Highly agree on the bows and swords idea. Though are we doing the survivor made ammo idea?
And the damage system is gold, if you have actually read the zombie survival guide you will see that you are not intended to kill alot of zombies, mainly avoide them. Though a 4+ group of people at a outpost could mow down a considerabaly large amount of zombies due to stored ammo. I think the group system would be nice, for if you are 1 person you can easily sneak around a manouver, where as with 2 you can move around and have some additionaly help and watch eachothers back, 3 would be for medium risk travel or help with clearing out a building, and 4 would be for highly dangerous mission that go into many uncharted/deemed dangerous areas.
Also for a permadeath system would be great, though there will be many ragers, when they die they become a zombie, and the zombie they become is a custom zombie so it will kind of add a sort of large amount of different zombies rather than maybe 30 different zombies that you can see the differences in dead survivors would also have the gear they had on them when they died so they would be a bit more difficult to kill but more rewarding.
^ Zombification for 76hours play time.
Maybe if we could get a team together we could make a small 2d beta version, maybe overhead or a sidescroller. Dead frontier sucks though. Item made baracades Is a must, so is fortifying buildings.
[editline]11:04AM[/editline]
76 hours? Maybe if we had a sort of system like in far cry how the days pass so fast but 76 hours would be insane, maybe 5 hours real time max to find a cure or get treated.
[editline]11:07AM[/editline]
The permanent death system would have the downside of multiple, multiple accounts, so how about someone could have multiple people on 1 account, and when there zombie person is killed all data about it is deleted a day after.
Customization should put different stats on your weapons. Silencer would decrease the chance a zombie hears your gun shot, and rushes in.

What about Crossbows and Knives?

Ah, crossbow and knifes would be nice.
Crossbow would be very strong but ammo is rare and expensive to buy.
A katana would be nice, it would be very rare, and expensive, but its a long range melee weapon.
So, can you guys make this ? Or is this just an idea guy thread, where you dont flame the OP because the idea is awesome
Should we have a feature where a person can cure another infected person in a limited amount of time?
You know, you can't find ammo forever. That will run out.
You have enough wood going around to kill a fuckton of zombies.
And swords don't need reloading. They NEVER run out of ammo.
Which is why i'd go medieval against zombies.
They do get blunt though.
I think for ammo, there should be a way of making ammo. Handcrafted ammo is possible, but its very hard to make.
Also, there should be a whetstone to sharpen your sharp weapons.
Also, for weapon stats, it should be a STALKER like system. Instead of a fuckton of numbers, there are a few bars that indicate its accuracy, handling, etc...
But anyway, what do yall think about my ideas at the top of the page?
Maybe so but swords and bows in a zombie survival game is just ridiculous.
1) Nobody said you have to use them
2) How are they ridiculous?
Besides, to use a sword you'd have to charge right into the middle of a group of zombies, which is suicide.
That's why you don't go charging into groups. You pick off the stragglers.
As for bows, they're hard as fuck to aim without real skill,
1) Practice.
2) Again, nobody said you have to use a bow.
especially if you lack the strength to use them effectively,
It's a game. Not real life. If you can't pull back a simple bow in RL then that is really sad.
and the arrows will do minimal, if any, damage to a "slow" zombie.
Bows were used to kill people for centuries and were quite effective at it.
:colbert:
Well crossbows would have high power and the retreaval of ammo, but firerate and reloading would be slow, and to retreave the ammo you would have to find the zombie with it and cut it out which would be hard with all the other zombies everywhere.
Seems like a good idea, slow reloading, single shot, retreavable ammo, craftable ammo.
As for knives they will come in many categories. There would be small knives, which would consist of pocket knives and small kitchen knives, maybe some mini knives. Then big knives which would consist of hunting knives, large kithen knives, daggers, and other unique things. Then the unique category where there is trench knives and trench spikes, survivor make blades like a knife knuckle duster or whatever, some player suggested items and very rare others.
The knives would be able to be sharpened, increasing there damage but decreasing there size very very slowly this way what knives there are may go through alot of use but will eventually go away. The size of the blade varrys damage but also the speed of drawing and attacks. The handle will affect the quailty balance of the knife and your grip on it, the grip decreases the chance of losing your grip on the knife and the balance of the knife affects your effect of your strenght on the blade and the speed of your attacks.
Sounds cool. I would jizz everywhere if all the weapons were as customizable as the picture in the OP.
New York should be a free fire zone between all three factions
Bows do make sense in a zombie apocalypse, because they're easy to make, but someone forging swords these days sounds ridiculous, I really doubt someone still knows how to
But you have to hit them in the head. Thats a small target for a bow.
A crossbow could probably hit it with better accuracy, though.
Swords would be extremely useful for close quarters situations. You enter a house, a zombie comes at you, you stab it in the face. If you have a rifle in close quarters, the zombie could get too close to use the rifle.
Sort of like Demon's Souls where bigger weapons don't work that well in close quarters.
Not really, making a sword is as easy as taking a lawnmower blade and putting some leather or something around the bottom.
Should we have a feature where a person can cure another infected person in a limited amount of time?
Maybe if they have a cure developed, but cures are very rare and hard to make and would most likely be used for themselves, though they could be a optional cash shop item for people to buy when they are in one of the major outposts to reel in a bunch of cash.

You can get a sword from a local pawnshop or a antique shop.
Shoot a zombie's ankle, arrow goes through foot, into ground. They get stuck or slow down alot. Then finish them off with another weapon.
Imagine this. A gang of survivors riding horses through the great plains. That is the kinda shit I wanna see.
Shoot a zombie's ankle, arrow goes through foot, into ground. They get stuck or slow down alot. Then finish them off with another weapon.
Thats a bit unrealistic, but maybe making that leg go limp would be good?
But anyway, a Robinson's Requiem damage system would be amazing.
Thats a bit unrealistic, but maybe making that leg go limp would be good?
It's a zombie game
Take off the RPG element and I will play it. All I want is a humans vs zombies survival game on a massive scale.
Also, the ENTIRE fucking Eastern part of the USA is far too much. I'm totally sure that 3 the north-eastern states would be more than enough
Also, each state belongs to a faction. Makes sense to me
There should be a "crafting" system. Where you can make a Molotov Cocktail with a lighter, Beer Bottle, and oil. Or a homemade stun grenade by using parts from a camera.
Hunger and thirst should be brought in. I would stock up on water and candy bars and other food, and hide on top of a skyscraper for days, shooting off zombies from the top with a sniper rifle.
so, why was this thread made? are you an "idea guy" like everyone else or are you going to make it?
Scrap the faction stuff. Just have survivors vs. zombies and other survivors. Survivors make the factions themselves.
There should be a "crafting" system. Where you can make a Molotov Cocktail with a lighter, Beer Bottle, and oil. Or a homemade stun grenade by using parts from a camera.
Good idea.
so, why was this thread made? are you an "idea guy" like everyone else or are you going to make it?
I saw the idea floating around Facepunch for a while now, this thread had to be made. There are too many guys here dreaming about this game, and they will make it
Swords would be very very rare, the highest quality one would be found not made, then there would be the home made ones which would degrade eventually but could be improved by adding on more things. So say a surivor goes out, he gathers a lawnmower blade, a bicycle handle, and a broken brass knuckle. The lawmower blade itself is a weapon but it cuts your hand, you must use a file or something on the base of the lawn
over blade to make a area for a handle, then you fit the bicycle handle on the blade, because of it just being plopped on there you have to find a way to keep it on so you can either tape it for low quality and reliability, glue it which depends on the quality of the glue, and weld it which is very hard to do because of the lack of electicity or welders. When done you get a sword of x amount of quality depending on the methods and parts it is made of. As a additional things can be added to it so the broken brass knuckle can serve as a hand guard and a balencer, also something for pushing zombies back. Most crafted weapons would be suggested by players and of the idea is explaned well enough the developers could make the weapon.
