Considering I usually see zero servers you're probably fine. This game was never big on public servers. Too much potential for grief and it really needs a lot of teamwork.

Parasite bugs were hilarious.
Essentially they are facehugger type bugs that jump into you and does damage over time. If you die with one in you it explodes into even more parasites that essentially causes a chain reaction of game over. If you were gibbed by a teammate the parasites wouldn't spawn.
This lead to situations like this (which are infinitely funnier on ventrilo/teamspeak):
*Careless teammate gets infected with a parasite*
Infected: Somebody heal me! I'm dying!
Medic: I'm out of med packs.
Infected: Does anyone else have anything?! Help me!
Other Teammate: Nope
Me: Uh.....
Infected: Guys?
Me: *cocks shotgun*
*Entire team glances at each other*
Infected: ?????
Me: *gibs infected player with a point blank shotgun blast*
I am so extremely hyped about this game I can't wait till it's released, even though it's released tomorrow

It doesn't even look like the Source engine, it's amazing how flexible it really is.

It was definitely a gameplay decision to keep it in the original and if they transfer the parasite to this version I doubt they would change the mechanism.
Played the mod quite some time ago, but I knew no one who would play it with me.
This time is different though. :woop:
I just mourn the juggernaut style marines (those look like some HAZMAT janitors), and also 8 people co-op. The epic battles with all 8 were the best.

8 players borderlines from epic to mass chaos and almost requires FF off. 4-6 is the sweet spot.

Flamethrower was a lifesaver at parasite infested areas, not to mention the efficiency of it at killing eggs.

The game doesn't unlock until 5 pm EST? Ugh... and it's 2.5 GB so it will take me 4 hours to download, awesome.
Not bad for an Engine that came out in a time where most games had Windows 98 still printed on the back of the box for a requirement

What? It's used almost exclusively by Valve. You're on a forum that's dedicated to a mod on the engine. Of course you're going to hear about it all the time. That doesn't mean it's bad. Source is one of the best engines around.

Did I ever say it was bad? I'm saying it's overused and outdated now. CryEngine2 might be much more complicated but atleast it isn't as outdated yet.
Let's not turn Alien Swarm into a debate about engines.
