the nuclear bunker buster was disappointing
it wasn't fun shooting a friend with a nuke then walking up to him to see he's alive
I got mercs 2 for free, it's kind of fun, got boring. But damn, blowing up buildings is fun.
in mercs 1 i was in a helicopter, and it glitched and sent me extremely high, like millions of feet high
everything was more fun in mercs one
like ordering tactical bunker buster missiles on enemy jeeps
I dedicated 3 years of my life to the Pandemic forum for this :'(.
Amazing games both of them.
Oh dear god
Those fucking chinese tanks in Mercs 2. Not possible to hi-jack one, I raged so hard.
FUCKING TANKS!
/caps
First one was MUCH better than the second one in my opinion.
Remember the DLC they promised for Mercs 2 with new characters and such? I bought it because I thought that was out. It wasn't. Made me sad. Also, 1 was much better.
how to get 50 dollars worth of entertainment out of Mercs 1:
option a.)
obtain helicopter. fly helicopter over vehicle with a civilian in it. drop magnet. haul vehicle to the top of a building, and let it go safely. laugh as it drives off the side and explodes.
When I got bored of that I'd swing the car a bit and release it; sometimes I'd try to hit things. Once I even managed to throw a occupied civilian car into a Korean helicopter mid-flight.
This is probably my favorite SP game.
Mercenaries 2 was bullshit, all the explosions looked the same and the damn nuke made absolutely no sense...
Mercs 1 had a unique feel to it that Mercs 2 was lacking. I guess I enjoyed the setting more than the islandish stuff in Mercs 2.
Just Cause 2 is what Mercenaries 2 should have been.
I still don't know why Mercs 2 was bad, can someone point it out to me in terms of gameplay?
The last eventful thing I remember doing with Mercs2 was putting all the C4 i had on the oil rig and getting underneath it and letting it drag me down to the bottom of the lake
First time I used a cruise missile in Mercs 1, my jaw dropped, it was amazing.
Man first time I used a cruise missle was like this...
"K firing, taking cover, am far."
Initial blow
"thats it? man I wasted so much cred on th...
Second chock wave
"OMFG I should have taken a better cover!"
You do know Mercs 2 was before JC2, right?
Yes. I fail to see what that has to do with the fact that it was like JC2, except shit.
JC2 is what WiF was supposed to be except with less buildings blowing up :frown:
Merc 1 was utter sex. One of my all time favourite games.
The first one was a fucking amazing game, I remember playing it for hours on end years ago good times. I eagerly brought the second and was dissappointed, it was nothing like the original and had so much potential.
The first Mercs was an awesome game back in the day. There's no denying the awesomeness of the Bunker Buster hitting that skyscraper for the first time. "Thats it......HOLY SHIT"
Mercs 2, I honestly enjoyed, but no where near as much as the first. Had a really awesome time playing coop, till my buddy scratched his disk. Picking up your partners motorcycle with a helicopter, then airdropping him over a HVT resulted it quite a bit of hilarity. Especiallly when he sticks the landing.
Probably the biggest problem I had with Mercs 2 was the fuel/depot system. I like to hoard things till I really need them lest I not have it when I need it. That never really comes up though, so I ended up with enough weaponry to supply a small country. Additionally, the few times I do use something, I always NEED to resupply ASAP. Fuel was easy, but I found my self making way too many trips to X, Y, or Z's headquarters. A merchant of menace type system like the first game could of really saved this game.
Leader of the Russian Mafia in Mercs 1 was gold, if only because he was so batshit insane.
I remember using the bunker buster on Mercs 1, i was like 10, ordered it in and a puny little missile came down and exploded with a barely audible bang. "Pathetic" i thought, and looked for something to amuse my small mind, then suddenly BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, a huge shockwave shot up, blowing everything up. shit was awesome.
I fucking loved mercs 2, I replayed it like 4 times.
Tastes differ I geuss.
Mercs 2 was a buggy piece of shit compared to Mercs 1.
Ah, if only Mercs1 came to the PC...
I actually liked Mercenaries 2 more than the first one.
Although that may be just because the 2nd one was on PC and I find using controllers awkward as hell.
I would kill to have Pandemic's sixth gen games on the PC. Destroy All Humans, Mercenaries... Pandemic made some quality shit before they went under.
I Think Mercs 1 is much better, it actually made u give a shit about the main enemy rather than simply ignoring them for the whole game, also the story was better in mercs 1 because it actually made sense, because you are an employee for an actual PMC (not that shit one in mercs 2) and your job was to capture the deck of 52 which was fun and rewarding and there were many to capture in the game and special missions.
Also you could get national treasures, nuclear blueprints and destroy general song's (is that his name? I haven't played it 4 years lol) statues and you would make the south Koreans happy with you for example.
Also the bombs were VERY devastating in mercs 1, the fuel air bomb could take out half a city while the "nuclear bunker buster" could only take out a few buldings, also in mercs one there were always special deck of 52 boss missions where you catch the Aces and each one was awesome and in mercs 2 you take out 2 idiots with poor AI and the horrible ending with solano in mercs 2.
Also there were plenty of missions that could be done in mercs 1 for each faction throughout the game rather than simply doing all the missions for one faction in mercs 2 and not go back to them again which sucked and gave you limited mission choices also there were awsome enemy bases in mercs 1 such as missle launch sites and huge north korean bases you could raid with a faction's troops which was very fun and make a small temporary outpost there with them which was always fun.
Also the factions in Mercs 1 were MUCH better than mercs 2 because they had character, the chinese were the guys who wanted to take north korea for themselves, the south koreans wanted to unify them with CIA support, the allies wanted order and the Mafia wanted to open a new black market there and all of the factions were fun compared to the bland uninteresting stereotypical factions in a war for oil which was boring and didn't play out well, also the soundtrack was much better in mercs 1 than mercs 2 which was more epic and suited the game.
I wish my friend had Mercs2 on pc. He has it on xbox so we can't mp D:
Does anyone know if the PS2 version of Mercs 1 plays decently on an emulator?

They made DAH? I LOVED that game. 2 was alright. I wanted a current gen one that wasn't shit so bad.
