Mercs 1 was the shit, 2 was a disgrace. I loved blowing the Mafia's area up in the first area, so many buildings.
The first one is up there on my top games list. I don't think there's a single thing I dislike about it.
God, I would kill to have Mercs 1 on PC. I've been trying to see if I could find an emulator for it. And I really liked Mercs 2, but it just didn't have the same charm as the first, and it did a LOT of things wrong.
One thing I loved in Mercs 1 was that the faction interaction was much more dynamic than the second. Factions would often have missions against (or sometimes allying with) all of the other factions. And you had to be more careful when toying with the factions because you didn't have the opportunity to avoid detection like in Mercs 2, which made everything more tense and tactical feeling. The atmosphere in Mercs 1 was also MUCH better than the second, and it had a much more serious tone than the second. Mercs 1 also had a far superior soundtrack (not that the music in Mercs 2 is bad, but it just isn't nearly as well done as Mercs 1)
However, some of the glitches in Mercs 2 were amazingly hilarious:

I loved Mercenaries 1, but the sequel was piss poor.
Also, Mercenaries 1 had an AMAZING soundtrack. Probably in my top 5.
Apparently, Pandemic started working on a third mercs game called Mercs Inc. and from some of the early announcement trailers it looked like it was going to be rather shitty (looked worse than Mercs 2) but then after Pandemic got killed by EA it looked like Mercs Inc was scrapped as well.
Well, turns out, EA kept part of Pandemic's core team and turned it into EA Los Angeles, and they are going to continue work on it, and some of the concept art for it actually makes it look like they may be going back to the style of Mercs 1:

It looks like it may be taking place in Russia or something.
My only concern is that it is once again being developed by EA, and now it's even more EA than it was with Mercs 2. I won't get my hopes too high in case it flops as well...
I liked 2 because it was just plain fun, I wasn't looking for an amazing story.
Isn't Mercs Inc. that stupid looking multiplayer version of Mercenaries? Why can't they just keep it singleplayer?
I loved driving a tank into the shanty town thing on mercs 2, but I loved the sports car on mercs 1.
