What misconceptions and mistakes (scientific, etc) really bother you in games?

Radiation will cause mutations within a matter of days. Extra arms and crap resulting from pollution (including radiation) are things which take several generations to arise after exposure to such hazardous things. Look no further than India, with the octopus child, the girl who cries blood, and the four-legged man.
Mirror's Edge and some of the jumping and falling distances. I was somewhat okay with it when I first played it, but now that I actually practice parkour more, I hate how far you can fall, and fix it with a roll, or jump to another really far building, fall a story, and catch yourself on a pipe. It's fun and fine in a video game, but my parkour brain keeps screaming "Nooooooooooooo!".
Underpowered weapons.
Any game you play (especially RTSs) will have horrible weak weapons. Missiles, bombardments, artillery, bombing runs, nuclear weapons, they're all firecrackers compared to what they should be. On the other hand shit like cars, barrels and such explode like they were filled with anti-matter.
Oh and it pisses me off even more in games in the near future. Oh yeah we're in 2100 but our armies still have the same firepower of 160 years ago.
Also one thing always bothered me, how the hell did the combine take over the world when they have measly flying things with a minigun (which would be shot down from several kilometres away by any modern helicopter) and striders that can be taken down by a few RPG rockets?
Also soldiers shooting down buildings, etc in RTSes.
Buildings that stand still even when you fired a nuke at it.
Projectiles flying straight and not affected by gravity.
Standing next to a wall, and still having my gun pointing straight out into the wall.

Presumably, the forces you combat in-game are just the occupation force. After 20 years, do you think a space-conquering civilization would leave behind their whole military to guard some insignificant little blue planet that figured out how to teleport?

i was also thinking that most earth military had just been annihilated by xen aliens, or the usa decided to fuck with china/russia/britain/any country that the Americans view weaker than them.
dont fuck with china
Being able to sneak by an enemy crouching but they can hear you walking 50 yards away.
Referring to magazines as clips. :argh:
This.
Also, shotguns. Apparently you can't use them from over 10 feet away, and when you use them up close, bodies go flying.
But, to be fair, it is a good game mechanic. I just wish they made them more accurate.
The plot of both modern warfare games was so bad that I don't evenn remeber it.. I vaguely remmeber shooting Zakaev, then being on a bridge and see Price get shot in MW1, and the ISS getting anihilated in MF2, but that's it.

See us brits decided that if we are going to have an army we're not going to have a bunch of random Gun Nuts running around out there.
If you didn't know any better you would swear that the entire British military was made Up of Special Forces and Gurkha's.
There's another Point. Every Time Britain is in a War game It's always the S.A.S.
WE HAVE OTHER MILITARY FORCES YOU KNOW!
See I would love to see a game here you are a Gurkha, They are like a mix between the S.A.S and Ninjas. You don't see them coming, then never make mistakes, they are loyal to the death and if you manage to kill one of them, get writing your last will and testament.
What he said.
There's also two sickeners that you have to go through.
Also ask him what years he was active.
When a space ship stops accelerating and it stops.
Cocking the weapon EVERY TIME YOU RELOAD!
Well, the ship might have bosters/jets/ w/e in the front of it to keep it from moving.
If a round isn't chambered, then yea, you HAVE to do that once you reload... Duh.
Anyway. Nukes in space are almost always done wrong. Pistols being able to shoot locks open (no, they CAN'T, look it up), for the most part, grenades aren't too over-exaggerated, if anything there UNDER-exaggerated.
But, most of the time i remember, THESE ARE GAMES. I don't hear people complaining about the ending to jaws as being not scientificaly possible. Well, mabye one thing bothers me, ALL EXPLOSIVE BARRELS ARE ALWAYS RED.
Misslelaunchers/tanks doing nothing to infantry in RTS games.
1. Germans were and are awesome

Some of the most patriotic games ever made were made in countries that were direct targets of the US during World War 2. Crysis made by german developers, US special forces fight evil koreans to save the world, Metal Wolf Chaos, well, only videos can show how fucking over-the-top it is... Made in Japan...
i didnt even get it, something like....
russian guy decides he hates the usa (understandable)
american spy is sent to russian guy
Russian guy shoots up a Russian airport, mysteriously knows about the spy and uses the spy to blame America
every russian magicly knows that finding a dead american means that they have to invade, meanwhile the sas are shooting up brazilians.
america fights russia, the sas (who are strangely serving some American) go to Russia, but first they rescue an old character who magicaly found himself in an old Russian castle
brits shoot foreigners, americans shoot foreigners
americans kill their brit allies purely because they can
british kill the americans
three people live happily ever after. everyone else is dead
No one ever gets MW2's story, even when its REALLY easy to understand.
To put it simple like you did, it goes like this:
American seargent wants to rise through the ranks in the military to have full control and devises a plan with the help of a russian terrorist (don't know if this is right though)
American spy is sent along with russian terrorist in a boggus op to bring him down.
Russian terrorist kills everyone at a russian airport, killing the american spy who was a CIA agent.
By doing this, his body would be found by the russians, and the russians would think that americans did it just because they felt like it, so they started an invasion on the US, killing everyone.
Then, the american seargent would lead the whole operation, thinking he would emerge victorious and thinking that everyone in the US would worship him and give him full control of every force in the country, being the most powerfull man.
The "SAS" are sent on a wild goose chase to gather info on where the russian terrorist is hiding to deliver him to justice and then recover an old prisoner that the russian terrorist seems to hate.
When they find his hide out, they gather info about the whole plans, become disposable at all costs because of what they know and get killed in the process.
Rest is self explanatory. It goes sorta like that I think.
And I bet no one is going to read that :colbert:
Still you have fucked up every war you have ever been into after the world war 2.
Stop being such a eurofag elitist. I could go on and on with other lists of US special forces that can match and even top what you've already stated.
Besides, i don't think anyone can compete with Russian spec ops :B

Throwable items that just explode as soon as they touch anything, like in Dues Ex IW.

That does sort of make sense, though - if you're going to fill a barrel with explosive fluids it's probably a good idea to paint it a bright colour like red so people know it's dangerous.
I suppose it can also alert the player that they're not just scenery, and you might be able to use them to your advantage.
You get in a tank and enemies will throw jeeps and infantry at you.
Most games don't do ironsights and red dots right, but I'm glad for it. Ironsights set to shoot at a target that's 300 meters away are not going to work at 10 feet, you'll end up shooting way lower than where the ironsights line up. Most people would end up killing hostages accidentally in games if they did get this right.

... What KIND of ironsights? If your talking about bead sights then your wrong.
I didn't see any cosmic disasters in space games, except for the sun going nova in SC II but that's about it.

No, you can't trace the encryption. That doesn't even make sense. No, you don't have to hack all the nodes simultaneously. This is network infiltration, not a fucking armed robbery. No, tracing someone's IP will not let you figure out their name, not well enough for legal use. And don't even get me started on "hacking".
ACTUALLY, i've managed to use peoples IP's on google maps years ago to locate the house they live in... Thus, looking up their address could lead to a name.
