• What misconceptions and mistakes (scientific, etc) really bother you in games?
You haven't actually played Arma have you? Accuracy is shit, and keeping to cover and repositioning can make battles pretty intense, fair and drawn out. The thing that sucks is arcade games with perfect accuracy and useless cover that try the one shot one kill bullshit. BC2 Hardcore I'm looking at you. Heck just sprinting in Arma will make you pretty much impossible to hit. At least in close quarters anyway.
Accuracy in ArmA II is NOT SHIT. You just think it's not accurate because most of the time you're engaging units from 400m away. I haven't heard guns that shoot at 45 degree angles when the enemy is around 3 m in front of them. If you apply ArmA II accuracy to battles in close quarters such as Counter Strike, the guns would be laser accurate.
In FEAR, you could slide-kick someone to death. Your foot, making contact with their foot, resulted in them instantly collapsing to the ground. It was more effective than gunfire. The melee being a one hit kill thing has been in other games too, but FEAR stands out as making it even more ridiculous. Shotgun blast? Ineffective. Kick to the shin? Lethal.
But the three different types of melee attacks in FEAR were just so fucking badass it couldn't bother me.
Also, can someone name an RTS that got tank physics even remotely right besides the Men of War series?
What do you mean by "tank physics"? Stuff like ground pressure, bogging down and momentum of the vehicle?
Glock not being a machine Pistol.
only the G18 is a machine pistol
I hate sprint timing in games. Yeah, I know gear weighs a lot. But I'm not even in that great of shape and I sprint for a good 150 feet or so, and I can run (not jog, or sprint, just run) for over a mile easily. Yeah, carrying gear is hard. I've never lugged around the amount of gear a soldier would have, but I find it easy to run while carrying heavy/bulky/poorly balanced loads.
The only game that had realistic sprinting was BF2. Sprinting lasts pretty long in that game. Call of Duty has always had terrible sprinting. The character can't even run a sixth of a mile without breathing heavily.
Fucking melee in games. When did it become instant kill and why. Especially in games where the knife is an instant kill but the shotgun isn't necessarily.
Because it's harder to get up close to an enemy than it is to shoot him from a distance. Gameplay reasons, therefore not a mistake/misconception.

also railguns and gaussguns being shown as overpowered lasers.
Glock not being a machine Pistol.
Glocks have fire-select and no-one in their right mind would put it in automatic.
Glocks have fire-select and no-one in their right mind would put it in automatic.
The only select fire Glock is the G18, the rest of them aren't
Just for the record - shurikens (Opera tells me my spelling is wrong) were used when coated in poison.
Sometimes yes, but not always, though i think he mentioned shurikens merely because they are another type of throwing blade.
Here's another one. Everyone is trigger happy with the nukes. we have not had a single Nuclear attack since Nagasaki And Hiroshima. Yet in video games everyone has near infinite nukes and is more than willing to fire them off as soon as anyone sneezes over the international border regardless of the cost of the nuke, the impact of large scale fallout potentially polluting the nearby ocean (and therefore fish supplies) The potential retaliation by other nations thinking it as a false positive pre-emptive strike and the resulting reprimands from the UN for using such a weapon just "off hand" which would result in trade embargo's, demilitarization, certainly you would have to pay for that nations recovery operation and possibly even the UN ordering a takeover of said nation so the trigger happy man with the nukes is no longer a threat to the world. No nation in their right minds would ever fire a nuke without a REALLY good reason, singed and written permission from the UN and all their allies. And yet in video games they are willing to give standard footsoldiers command over a nuclear strike.
Ultranationalists won.
Wait what? What the hell is Makarov doing then?
Wait what? What the hell is Makarov doing then?
Fuck if I know, it's a mess. Guess he wants to see America burn so he thought he could betray Shepherd or something I mean he had all his files on that computer at the mountain place
Just cause 2s various shenanigans including: Jumping off a mountain is just fine, but jumping off a house is deadly Obviously the ragdoll physics, why and how could the developers mess that up so bad. The commentaries made them look so smart and everything. Why not jump off a mountain and grapple towards the ground, that'll nullify gravity. Your pulling earth towards you, meaning you don't have to fall so far. Your fucking rico. :downs:
Shotguns are the slowest weapon to reload in games since they go by the shell, yet rifles and pistols can easily be loaded by the mag with no problem. My problem is that the magazines never need to be loaded or checked: each mag comes fully loaded.
I've played games where the character has to check the mag before reloading and honestly, its the most frustrating thing ever. You'll be in the middle of blowing the crap out of someone only to have to run out of ammo and have to go through this stupidly long reload animation, which you're usually dead before you even get to fire another bullet. Its meant to be stupid, thats like the main thing that makes it so fun. [editline]01:58PM[/editline]
Fuck if I know, it's a mess. Guess he wants to see America burn so he thought he could betray Shepherd or something I mean he had all his files on that computer at the mountain place
But isn't he supposed to be the guy running the ultranationalists? If they won why is he still hiding in mountains?
Sometimes yes, but not always, though i think he mentioned shurikens merely because they are another type of throwing blade.
Shurikens were usually used to incapacitate/slow down opponents and pursuers. A shuriken could probably never kill an armored opponent unless it hits a critical area. Think about throwing sand in the enemys eyes but this time the sand is pointy.
But isn't he supposed to be the guy running the ultranationalists? If they won why is he still hiding in mountains?
He isn't. They have a legitimate government. Besides, I don't really see the president shooting up his own airport without anyone recognizing him.
Glock not being a machine Pistol.
not all glocks have an automatic feature
Also World in Conflict
What's wrong?
ARMA 2 is horrible. People within 5 feet of each other have trouble killing each other because it's more like flopping around a dildo than a gun.
Or maybe you're trying to play it the wrong way? ArmA II is fine. It can feel clunky at first, because all movement is based on animation, but once you get used to it, it's fine.
have you ever put on 150 lbs of gear and ran around?
I tried it and I could barely walk.
What's wrong?
I think he might mean that the Soviets have AKMs rather than AK-74s. That irked me, but didn't piss me off. I didn't understand the logic however, as in all of the clips the Soviets do have AK-74s, suggesting that they modeled them and knew their mistake but didn't do anything about it for some reason. Strange.
You'd have to be a super nerd to get annoyed at game misconceptions.
You'd have to be a super nerd to get annoyed at game misconceptions.
Wrong Forum for you, then.
Counter-Strike: Source. The entire game. How the fuck did I play that so much?
You'd have to be a super nerd to get annoyed at game misconceptions.
Er, nope.
Why are you complaining about Just Cause 2? Its meant to be stupid, thats like the main thing that makes it so fun.
Honestly I think the immortal god that is the grappling hook kinda sucks the fun out some. I would have liked it a lot better as some sort of spiderman web that would have made more sense, and not an instant teleportation button.
BmB makes a fair point, it's an unrealistic overused tool, therefore it is a point to complain about. :science:
BmB makes a fair point, it's an unrealistic overused tool, therefore it is a point to complain about. :science:
Aye it almost took the fun out of utilizing vehicles and such, because you could almost move faster just using the grappling hook. Not good.
