What misconceptions and mistakes (scientific, etc) really bother you in games?

The entirety of Modern Warfare 2
Also, assault rifles that are used more on full-auto like a "personal machine gun" than used in single-shot.

Cocking the weapon EVERY TIME YOU RELOAD!
Left 4 Dead kind of fixes this. You don't actually re-cock the gun unless it's actually empty, in which case reloading takes slightly longer.
But only for a few of the guns. Some of them have different reasons for having longer empty-reload animations than just regular reload animations. Not sure what's up with that.
when you go to relaod and the clip is still in the gun and your guy only does the action rather than actually change it
When I can't switch fire modes.
Looking at you, CoD.

Well okay, early CoD is an exception.
When machine guns are treated like CCW weapons.
when looking through a scope on a rifle instantly makes it 200 times as accurate
having the garand not able to reload mid clip
If I remember right, it is not able to in mid clip , but that was a long time ago.
Magazines being called clips. Also melee attacks that can kill in one hit.
Explosions in fucking space.
Actually, you can have an explosion in space. The question is about would there be a shockwave./derail
Hate when you always have more guys than the enemy, but only you and maybe one other survives.

No, you can't. You need oxygen for there to be explosions. No oxygen, hence no explosions.
Also, it's usually quality over quantity.
running slightly faster than npcs, and when you walk, they outrun you.
stalker.
Cannonballs don't explode.

True, missile wouldn't have explosion, but a ship would, as they'd have oxygen in them.
Although, explosive decompression would negate that.
Tanks not having coaxial machine guns. Battlefields been fairly good with this but,

Incorrectly mirrored weapons. God damnit STALKER and CS(S)
having the garand not able to reload mid clip
Seriously.
There's a fucking clip release on it for this very purpose.
having the garand not able to reload mid clip
yeah wtf
How damage from a gun matters a lot in an FPS game such as COD but honestly all of the guns would incapacitate a man if shot at the chest.

Then how fun would a game be if all shots where insta kills?

Have you never heard of oxidizers? Space just means you have to take your oxygen with you. A spaceship can explode with no oxygen for the same reason a rocket works in space: they either carry an oxidizer to ignite the fuel, or use certain fuels that self-oxidize. Hydrogen peroxide or hydrazine, for instance.
you sound like you know your shit so I'll agree with you
[editline]11:33PM[/editline]
also it pisses me off when people get so pissed off about clips/magazines
really, actual soldiers use the term "clip", the only people that get angry at people using it are fat gun otakus
The thing is, Magazines and Clips are two entirely different things. I'm certainly no gun nut but I know the difference. A clip is something used to load a magazine (internal magazines usually) and does not go into the firearm and a Magazine (removable or internal) feeds the ammunition to the firearm. The M1 Garand Is the exception as the En Bloc clip stays within the magazine until all ammunition is expended.

I'm going to have to disagree with you. I've known a Korean War Vet and an US Army Ranger and both of them use the term 'mag' or 'magazine' in context with the proper weapon. They'd probably smack anyone who uses 'clip' around them.

I just have to say that if you gun geeks get to be angry over that terminology misuse, then I get to go on a 20th-level rampage for all the hacking terminology that gets misused.
No, you can't trace the encryption. That doesn't even make sense. No, you don't have to hack all the nodes simultaneously. This is network infiltration, not a fucking armed robbery. No, tracing someone's IP will not let you figure out their name, not well enough for legal use. And don't even get me started on "hacking".
To be honest, I wish less games even tried to use any sort of scientific approach to explaining things, most of the time they get it completely wrong. Use your own explanations; hell even use magic or "god(s)" but don't butcher where and how theories are used for your crappy story.

Trace the encryption? What the shit?
What game used that?
In HL1; when you break bottom boxes, the above boxes break as well. Right?

Uh, yes, but for one thing, I'd like to see how you carry your oxygen on a laser (i.e. Star Wars), and for the second, which kind of supports the first I suppose, not many space games have actual "missiles" that you would be able to attach some sort of oxygen chamber to.
The most logical thing to do would be to make a weapon to punch through metal so you can kill everyone in that chamber, but lasers serve that purpose fairly well.
