What misconceptions and mistakes (scientific, etc) really bother you in games?
How shit the entire plot of MW2 was.
i didnt even get it, something like....
russian guy decides he hates the usa (understandable)
american spy is sent to russian guy
Russian guy shoots up a Russian airport, mysteriously knows about the spy and uses the spy to blame America
every russian magicly knows that finding a dead american means that they have to invade, meanwhile the sas are shooting up brazilians.
america fights russia, the sas (who are strangely serving some American) go to Russia, but first they rescue an old character who magicaly found himself in an old Russian castle
brits shoot foreigners, americans shoot foreigners
americans kill their brit allies purely because they can
british kill the americans
three people live happily ever after. everyone else is dead
When they call Shotgun shells as "Shotgun Bullets".
I cringe when I see smoke movement from spaceships in space, no matter which direction the fuckers moving the SMOKE SHOULDN'T REALLY MOVE AT ALL, INSTEAD CLUSTER INTO A HUGE FUCKING BALL.
What the hell
If it's emitted from the spaceship, of course it's going to share the spaceship's movement vector to some extent. Anything else means that the spaceship is trying to propel itself by shooting the smoke out. The smoke particles would have some randomness in their motion and little to no intermolecular forces pulling them together so the smoke would dissipate in space.
edit: actually I don't mean "intermolecular" since smoke particles are bigger than individual molecules, but "interparticular" sounds dumb
um no, in the opening, the Normandy was flayed open and leaking oxygen, thus there was oxygen around the ship and trapped in its mass effect bubble until the drive core gave out. sound could travel. when you're passing through the CIC to get to the cockpit, all sound is muffled because there IS oxygen, but not very much.
Woops.
Completely forgot about the Mass Effect field.

Games are supposed to be fun. Getting torn to shreds the second you exit cover is why you have a very hard difficulty, it's not fun unless you are very good at the game. Having to repair your gun in the middle of a firefight is not fun. Getting killed buy some asshole with a laser sighted scoped shotgun is not fun. Mele kills are fun and a reason to keep your target at range.
I hate gun nuts, crysis was fun because none of the guns were real and so the devs could just make up whatever they thought was the most fun for them.
Mirror's edge, when you get to close to a cop he'll start to try and beat you to death with the stock of his gun. Sure it's more effective, but after 10 disarms they should understand that they have to KEEP FILLING ME WITH LEAD!
Sound in space

Natural reaction, wouldn't hit shit if even tried, at least in real life.
Explosions in fucking space.
This could happen if it was an inhabited spaceship, I suppose, as there would need to be oxygen inside the ship for people to live.
Explosions in fucking space.
SOUNDS in space.
Guns with inaccurate ammo in magazine.
GTA IV!!! :argh:
I think that one was a movie, actually, but games can be bad about it too.
Most importantly, the distinction between "hacking" and "cracking". I haven't seen any mass media yet that gets it right.
Also gay means happy.
Desert Eagles being used by an armed force.
No military or law enforcement agency in the world uses Deagles. They are too big and heavy. They don't have a lot of ammo capacity and they have a huge recoil. And they're loud.
Desert eagles are used for hunting, not combat.
It's beyond me why Infinity Ward added a Deagle to the Modern Warfare games. I guess just so they could have a shiny, show off handgun that would appeal to thirteen year old boys.
Sound in space. I hate it when games have muffled sound in space, because that is no more correct than full normal sound. It has to be silent.
Weapon ranges, shotguns that wich pellets dissapear after 10 metres, and snipers that struggle to fire accurately at 150 metres.
People here seem to think that space is 100% vacuum.
Also, Coriolis, Coriolis everywhere.
I'm starting to wonder.
If everything that's listed here somehow reach Hollywood, would every action film or every film that's setted in space be boring?

You know that barbed wire immobilises tanks?

Think Star Wars, without sound. Without huge, dramatic explosions. Without space vehicles flying around at hundreds of KM per hour with the ability to turn on a dime, covering vast distances in seconds, all of which lacking the ability to warp to "light speed". No lightsabers, no planet-sized space stations... so yeah, to answer your question, it would suck.
To the people who think total realism is boring, look at Red Orchestra, Battlegrounds Europe, Resistance & Liberation HL2 mod, so on...so on...
I find extremely statisfying to know that the bullet goes right into the direction the barrel points. For many, MANY times I've raged in Battlefield 2 Project Reality when there's a guy 5 meters infront of me, I am standing and aim throught iron sights at him, but the bullets start magically going 45' degree from the barrel hitting everything expect my target. I hate games like that.
Explosions in fucking space.
Explosions can happen in space. It's the big bloomy fireballs that need oxygen.
shotguns thats pellets disappear after two metres.

In the last one (which was somehow the third) Yeah there was sound but the explosions where pretty accurate. There was a very brief flash and the ship expanded outwards as wreckage. There were glowing embers from where chunks of heated metal flew outwards.
CORIOLIS EFFECT MOTHERFUCKERS
I hate that.

Plus WHY THE FUCK IS THERE SMOKE IN THE FIRST PLACE, THIS IS SPACE GOD DAMN IT.
There can also be smoke in space, nothing wrong there. But it would dissipate extremely quickly.
shotguns thats pellets disappear after two metres.
Shotguns whose pellets spread all over the fucking place after 5 meters, when in reality the dispersion starts around 30 meters.
getting hit in the foot and dying because you only had 10 HP left...
as if your brain is located in the tip of your toes or something
how 1 man can drive, reload, shoot and man the turret in a tank.......
how knife can RICOCHET ON WALLS......how can you throw a knife and make it ricochet without it losing any speed or falling down on the floor?
how 1 person can carry a whole armory with them, including a rocket launcher without being slowed at all
gotta add this:
how,in racing games, you can go at around 70 MPH,crash into a wall, and still be able to move, with your car only slightly damaged
in RL,the front of the car would be pancaked
My history teacher goes on about how he was an SAS soldier in his youth, its pretty cool, although it sounds like bullshit right off the bat, when you've heard it for several years, never heard a single contradiction or inaccuracy and have had other teacher go along with it, you start to believe him. Regardless, if what he says is true (and I know that if it was, it would be classified) these games are quite close.
But then, maybe good old Mr Harrison is just the world's best troll.
Ask him where his sickener (sickner) took place

Balance isn't an excuse. You can reduce or increase the damage the weapons deal or make enemies weaker or stronger. I don't know what you're talking about with the repairing weapons thing, and no, melee kills aren't particularly fun when they require absolutely no effort to achieve. And inventing new weapons is all good in my book, why don't developers do that more? It would be much less misleading, and would allow more creativity.
The rest of your post is baww baww dying is no fun.
