What misconceptions and mistakes (scientific, etc) really bother you in games?

also,it looks fucking bad
damn it,my automerge
In nearly every mainstream shooter, every shot from a firearm in open daylight creates a massive muzzle flash instead of puffs of smoke.
speaking of which:

the second canon on this gun is a grenade launcher
and the grenade is 3 times larger than the cannon
and you never seem to put the new ones in the gun
IMO,the worst misconception Valve ever did for HL2
Where the hell is the trigger to fire the damn grenade anyway?
When you shoot someone in the head with a .308 revolver and they take little to no damage at all.
Where the hell is the trigger to fire the damn grenade anyway?
:iiam:
Also, when for some reason you can't shoot straight when you aren't zoomed in with a sniper rifle. I mean come on you have a 20 inch barrel the least it could do is shoot straight. Halo got it right at least.
Where the hell is the trigger to fire the damn grenade anyway?
He fires it the same way he opens doors and commands rebels. He just stares at it really hard.

Or when you are unscoped and the sniper rifles bullet exits the barrel at a 75 degree angle 90% of the time because "the gun would be over powered if it didn't"
in fps games, when your not scoped in your character holds his weapon at a ridiculously retarded angle...
Med-packs
When revolvers in a game swerve left and right after a couple inches, and never do much damage. IM LOOKING AT YOU ARMY OF TWO...Speaking of army of two, how the fuck does he hold the gatling gun over cover and shoot? I mean seriously.
I know this has been said so many times before but WTF SNIPER RIFLES MAGICLY BECOMING A 1 BULLET (pellet) SHOTGUN WHEN UNSCOPED!
"Baha, look at me, i can kill you in a 179 degree angle with the help of luck and bad game development"
Desert Eagles being used by an armed force.
No military or law enforcement agency in the world uses Deagles. They are too big and heavy. They don't have a lot of ammo capacity and they have a huge recoil. And they're loud.
Desert eagles are used for hunting, not combat.
It's beyond me why Infinity Ward added a Deagle to the Modern Warfare games. I guess just so they could have a shiny, show off handgun that would appeal to thirteen year old boys.
bolded parts ruined your credibility. it's not called a deagle and the only people who call it a deagle are 14 year olds that think they know about guns because they got top score in CSS one time. and it's not used for hunting, ever. it's a show gun. other than maximum dickwaving, the only thing the desert eagle could possibly be useful for is interrogation or torture, because it's such a frightening weapon.

Not true. It also makes a great paper weight. And a nice doorstop too. It can also be used to prop up a table with one leg significantly shorter than the others.
that leaves the .50AE ammo totally useless though :v:
That's because Hideo Kojima gets a hard on for little details. They have it in Rainbow 6 Vegas too.
They've had it in Tom Clancy games from the start as far as I know. The orginal Rainbow 6 and Ghost Recon had it.
I was always bugged by games that have a massive damage difference between guns, like one would be called a 'magnum' or something so it would have 1 hit kill potential while an smg could take dozens of shots to kill.
Or when you are unscoped and the sniper rifles bullet exits the barrel at a 75 degree angle 90% of the time because "the gun would be over powered if it didn't"
It would be overpowered. Think modern warfare 2. People already use it like it's a bloody shotgun, they run up point blank with the M82 and spray the entire magazine, hoping one or two shots hits you.
This is one of the things I can forgive when it comes to realism in games. It is much better that sniper rifles can't be fired straight without looking through the scope. The only games where I think it would be okay for a sniper rifle to shoot just the same as any other gun are games like Arma, where one shot can kill you. Because of this, it actually becomes impractical to shoot the sniper rifle from the hip, because a bullet in those kinds of games is a bullet, and bullets kill people no matter the gun.
Otherwise, it's a good feature, how inaccurate sniper rifles are when shot from the hip in most games.
Today Desert eagle pistols are used for competition shooting (in disciplines like Silhouette shooting) as well as for hunting and general plinking (although the cost of gun and its ammunition makes it rather expensive fun gun). General belief of the Desert Eagle being used by various Special Operation forces so far found absolutely NO proofs.
bullets dissolve when fired into water due to friction
get this down all developers who put water levels into their games
bullets dissolve when fired into water due to friction

Surface tension breaks the bullet into pieces, the bullets don't dissolve, but they do become useless. And sub-sonic rounds don't break, but friction stops them pretty quickly.
Bailing out of a plane in mid-air. Battlefield :colbert:
Bailing out of a plane in mid-air. Battlefield :colbert:
I wouldn't compalin about that, just the fact that you can hop back in mid-air, have a reusable parachute, and dont take 5 seconds to undo your harness and open the canopy.
I wouldn't compalin about that, just the fact that you can hop back in mid-air, have a reusable parachute, and dont take 5 seconds to undo your harness and open the canopy.
Only pilots should get parachutes :saddowns:
[editline]07:41PM[/editline]
But the fact that you can get back in is fun anyway. It's not a practical tactic, and you can't really rely on being able to get back in, but it's fun when you can jump out, do some skydiving, and jump back in.
Explosions in fucking space.
You're dumb. Explosions in space happen when there's a ship involved. The oxygen from the ship is enough for an explosion the size of the oxygen volume. In other words you're dumb and explosions would happen in space.
I know this as probably already been talked to death that you can reload in the middle of a clip, but a quick history lesson.
Since the M1 would give off that ping sound after it fires all 8 rounds, German soldiers used the sound to tell when the US soldier was reloaded and they would take advantage and mostly get the US soldier while they would be reloading. Sometime they would only fire 7 of the 8 rounds in each load so that the German soldier couldn't tell when they were reloading. It also had an advanage when there was 2 US soldiers, one would fire all rounds, the German would hear the ping and move up on the soldier reloading, and then the other US soldier would start to fire at the German after they left their cover and were in no cover.
They would also just have a full clip and throw a empty metal cartridge at a rock or the like and than unload on the unsuspecting german.
The Whermecht were retards who ran into the middle of streets to get shot.
Anyone who doesn't like America? EVIL!
Equipment fuck-ups. Why, oh why, do the Russians in Call of Duty dress like a bunch of retarded anarchists and have a hodgepodge of weapons that makes it look like a bunch of drunk people all have a single weapon? Then there's the fact that they still have AK-47s, and all that shit.
Cars exploding when they get in water.
Jets crashing too.
Oh and *plane lightly touches the ground* then *big explosions*
And unrealistic fireball explosions everywhere. Most of the time only your HE shells or bombs give you a fireball! Not bloody AP rounds!
[editline]03:19AM[/editline]
And shotgun shells have such a huge spread, and games only uses birdshot, and not slug rounds

1. Germans were and are awesome
2. I fucking despise America and I am just a poor, nice Nazi! How could I be evil
Joked aside, the USA should get off the high horse, you are not motherfucking gods.
Then there's the fact that they still have AK-47s, and all that shit.
The Russian military still uses AKMs, Ak-103s, and AK-107s. I'd say a good deal of them still have wooden furniture even. That's not a stereotype, that's a fact.
And almost nobody uses the AK-47 anymore, something the news, press, game devs, etc never get right. Oh well, can't say I blame them for it. The AKM and most other AK variants look pretty much the same as the AK-47.
Sound in fucking space jesus christ stop it.
