Browsing youtube and finding videos about Garry's Mod.
When I tried to play multiplayer in Condition Zero back in April, 2004.
When I wanted Counter Strike Source, saw you could download it through steam and that's where it all began.
I got it when I bought Counter Strike Source and Half Life 2.
When I also bought Half Life 2 and Counter-Strike Source.
2004 Christmas when I got Half Life 2 with Counter-Strike Source.
It installed Steam, which was required.
Wait a minute, on my profile, it says December 4? But I clearly remember, because installing Steam with the games took forever and it almost ruined my christmas because I couldn't play the best gift of them all. :v:
Discovered Garry's Mod, downloaded 9.0.4 thinking it was standalone, discovered I needed Steam + HL2.
And here I am, all the way from 2006. (I lurked a year.)
I was sitting in my room playing Half-Life DM with my brother, we had lots of fun... Then the oldest brother comes rushing in yelling "STEAM BRO, FUCKING STEAM IS COMING!!!" And I had no idea what he was on about until HL2 was released.
I saw my brother using it some time around goldsource games moving to Steam.
Someone on GameFAQ's mentioned Garry's Mod so I looked it up and saw you could only get it with Steam. So I got it, signed up and got the Garry's Mod/Team Fortress 2 bundle.
Friend came over during the weekend after the Medic update for TF2 and told me to download steam so I could try the free weekend, would've stuck to MMOs if he hadn't shown me it.
I bought HL2 in 2006.
2 months after the release of Steam back in 2003, I wanted to start playing Counter-Strike. One of my friends got mad at me for trying to play the NoSteam version of it, and then showed me Steam, and told me how to register my HL1 CD key.
Installed When I bought teh Orange Box :D, thought it was a Downloader like Install wizard, wow i was a stupid back then
Was looking into getting Counter-Strike 1.6 some time around '04, found out you had to have Steam. Downloaded it, hated it, dumped it. Around the same time, picked up Xfire and loved it. Flash forward to April of last year, bought TF2 and re-downloaded Steam. Like 3 or 4 months ago I stopped using Xfire, I decided it's not as good as Steam is and wasn't worth the hassle.
First I heard about OB, bought it on PS3, heard about gmod, bought OB and gmod. Ended up here
In 2005 or 2006 when I bought Half Life Platinum Collection. After trying and failing to get Half Life to update and failing to connect to the WON server to play Counterstrike, I looked it up on Google and found out WON had been closed for a good while and that I had to download Steam to update/play the games properly.
my friend told me about steam but i didn't get it just yet then i heard about Team Fortress 2 and when i went to buy it then try and install it, it asked me to install steam.
When I bought orange box it told me to get it.
Gmod
Back in the day, I was a hardcore CoD 1 player, and then my friend told me about Portal. I've played HL1 before, but I didn't realize that it was made by Valve. After getting portal and steam, It opened me up to Valve and all their games.

Best Decision Ever.
When I bought the half life platinum pack.
Back in the summer of 2007 I wanted to buy gmod after seeing it on youtube.
Got it in 05 when I got the 30 game HL/Valve pack. Best 90 bucks I ever spent.
