you have to go far from the spawn. make sure you remember where you went. of course everything by the spawn will get griefed.
My server is online but it's probably too laggy.

Testing animation of minecraft stuff in tf2, seems to work fairly well. I'm most definitely going to need to animate with an external program, though.

that happened to me, I went to the top and there was a creeper there and it blew the glass up and lava flooded my stairs to get up

It's not just that.
It's the fact that most of FP server hosters are completely unaware of the requirements to run a smooth server. They think they can run it on their 4mb/s connections with their 2gb of RAM.
It's surreal. If you want to run a decent server that can hold above 20 people, at least have an upload connection of about 30mb/s and 6gb or RAM.
Thanks to a guy from SA (Geekner) and another from minecraft forums (SuperLlama) there are:
No more fires (Lava won't make wood start on fire, etc.)
No more huge TNT holes everywhere (TNT will explode, and it'll look like blocks were destroyed but will be back to normal in a few seconds)
