[B]Not everyone is a griefer. However, if you are a server owner or hoster, how do you stop griefers crashing the server or stop them griefing? Ban them? Well that means they've already done something on your server to warrant a ban, thus they've griefed. So how do you keep them off the server? Only let in friends, people you know, or respected members of where-ever you are recruiting from. In this case, FP is the place you are advertising an recruiting for people to play. Since FP is a big forum with lots of members, some server owners will want only gold members, or only older members, or only certain post counts. All it is, is a way to shrink the pool of potential griefers, because guess what, no matter how many of you 08, 09ers and 10ers come in and say "i don't grief!" there are more new forum members griefing than there are 05ers and 06ers, sad fact but its true. And thus that is why join date elitism is going on.
It's not fair but there is no other way for people who run a server to discern between Person A and Person B. There really isn't.
The plane analogy is a good one, but also think about car insurance. If your a teenager who has just passed a driving test, living in a busy city, and having bought a powerful car, you're going to pay more for insurance, right? But you don't crash it the entire year... does that mean the insurance company was stupid and shouldn't have charged you more money? No... it's about risk, think of this whole situation in the same way[/B]

Anyways, pretty sure that PlayerXXX is just a name hider for griefers in general.
At any rate, servers really need to be shut down when there aren't any admins on, or voteban needs to work, or tnt and lava needs to be removed until the final version, because otherwise (as has been stated many times) griefers just ruin everything good on the map and discourage players from joining again.

I was at Profanwolf's server when a similar incident happened, these griefers appear to be using a program or application called Persister which is a .jar file, and also using a number of ways to get into the server, named as player*** and obtain blocks of lava and TNT.
Reportedly, these players have been "banned" or auto kicked when joining the server, they have found a way to bypass that. Vote banning would be just as useless.
We just have to hope Notch works out the issues.

persister.jar assigns that name if you don't have a lastlogin file in your .minecraft folder iirc.
