No, trees definitely grow. They just take a long ass time.
You can't not pick up items, you just need to have an active empty slot for it to work.

The server is still going and we've added a bit. First of all, just like the old server, this one is running 24/7 and we can use an admin or two. I'd also like to add that you guys can now spawn simple tools so you have to work to get started but you also have access to a working furnace!

I just played on a server hosted on venn's computer for like 4 hours with pretty much no issues. We had 4-5 people online the entire time.
I'll be running all night, I have been dubbed the 'best SMP ever' by multiple people playing on it.
I doubt it will be running so well in the morning however, this unstable little bastard degrades overtime.

Yeah we did the same thing and were blowing up tons of dynamite. It's when we get 8+ players which happens every time the link is posted. The ball is in Notch's court.
