Seriously though, spawns are completely randomized. Regardless of lighting or surrounding, if it's a dirt block, there's a probability that an animal will spawn or despawn there. Whether you're around or not, all animal mobs will eventually despawn, respawn, whathaveyou.
Are slimes still around in Alpha?

open up minecraft.jar with winrar or 7zip > copy terrain.png to your desktop > open it up in a graphics image editor program > edit the blocks to how you like > put the new terrain.png back in minecraft.jar > success!

And man, I though the "persister" thing was a lot more of a hassle to use, so I didn't download it. Had I known it was that easy I would have gotten it a lot sooner. Would save me some time making all the tools I need one more time.
188.39.16.141:25565 were doing town building and exploring. Hosted on a colocated server (Quad, 4gb ram)

And can someone tell me why I lose connection to the internet but im still connected to my router just with no internet access, this happens around 30 seconds of joining a smp server, also happend with World of Warcraft.
