Spent a bit of time last night and today putting this together. This is a view of the full length of each scrolling section. The top is the right side "up" scroller and the bottom is the left side "down" scroller. As someone pointed out earlier, they are actually the same pattern scrolling in opposite directions. (At least they should be: I was copying ad hoc so I might have misjudged a column or two)
Will keep pondering, but wanted to put this out there.
This is interesting, but I would't at all be surprised if Valve put that there just to fuck with us.

I hate to say it, but Valve really caught us with our pants down there.

Be right back, I'm just gonna go and buy some ovaltine packs and take the numbers from all the bar codes, and then combine the numbers, and then decode them.
At that point in the credits I was still lost on how the hell I shot up to the moon. I wasn't even thinking about the numbers lol. I'll take a look eventually.
How about this: anyone have any ideas on how the three numbers (2.67 1002 45.6) could help in any meaningful way? The enigma cipher used a 3 character key, but 1) they had to be letters and 2) the message to be decoded also had to be alphanumeric.
[editline]26th April 2011[/editline]
Stumbled across some other people working on this thing. Someone at this page
http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/20935/numbers-in-portal-2-end-credits
plugged those three numbers as coordinates into the P2 console while in a certain map and it puts you directly between GLaDOS and the stalemate button.
They also thought we were for real about the ovaltine. You magnificent trolls.
I thought it was just like a music box... like this one

The groupings are too dense for this pattern to make any discernible musical piece. I've been working on making my own music box so I'm used to looking at the spools and tines. The one in your picture, like most music box spools, usually only has 1-3 notes punched at any one time. If it was punched like our pattern, it would sound like banging on piano.
As much as I want this to be something, none of our ideas are leading anywhere. I'll keep squeezing my mind grapes and will let you know what sweet juices appear.

I'm guessing that each column represents a letter/symbol 1-64, and that (from top-to-bottom) 111110 is either 'E' or 'S', because it occurs three times in succession and, assuming the message is English, these are the only two letters to do this remarkably frequently.
This may be relevant.
I'd also like to point out that the bottom message has an extra (blank) column. Is it in the graphic or isn't it?
edit: it isn't
Also, I find it interesting that the message is 42 columns long.
The information can be resized to a 12x21 or 21x12 rectangle. I find these numbers remarkable.
We should see what happens when we simulate the data as cellular automata for a few generations.

Sorry, each column has 6 rows, I just didn't crop the bottom part of the grid.
That's a good idea with the base64. I've been checking standardized base64 binary charts but maybe the approach you suggested will lead somewhere.

Is that one person or a whole organization?
Wasn't there something like that with ovaltine in portal 1 or something? For some reason I remember it from somewhere but not just that movie.
If this is actually a hidden code that links even remotely to an ARG, I will shit buckets of bricks. Because that means that Valve knows just how much the community over-analysis everything.
Still doubt it, though.
Another ARG, oh noes.
Valve just fuck us all analy.
"BE SURE TO DRINK YOUR OVALTINE".
Knowing people would decode it, they added a "crummy commercial"
Son of a bitch
Its too bad Be Sure To Drink Your Ovaltine can not simply have the letters scrambled a different way that makes sense to say something else. A Valve ad for Ovaltine, lol, but no, seriously, DAMN IT!

Holy fuck man
I noticed today that if you look around in the elevator in every level there is a code like grid on the back of the lift with red lights. worth noting?
It won't mean anything until they start gearing up for whatever the next release in the HL series is, and then it'll be a vital part of the ARG.
Then you'll all think back to this thread, and go "OH MAN HE TOTALLY TOLD US THIS".
Mark my words, man.
EDIT: If they find my body somewhere in the mountains three months from now, this is why.

Or maybe she just means Caroline, the person who's personality they put into GLaDOS.

You're over-thinking it. Valve has said time and time again that Half Life and Portal are in the same universe, but you will never go in Aperture Science and vice versa.
