Besides look at the mj12 and mj12 commandos in DE1. Compare to some of the stuff in DE3. The MJ12 guy has armour that's not that far off what adam's wearing.

If the mercs turn out to be hired by MJ12 that could provide an interesting link. I just hope they explain why people favoured those crappy 2 legged bots over the box bot.
I like how the trailer shows the box bots body parts being really stretched out but in game its more compact and more Ghost in the shell. Once again, trailer sucks :colbert:
Yes. Dugas stated there are things to heal your health and replenish your energy but he hasn't said what exactly.
No, i'm pretty sure it it is regenerating health, at least, that is what I read. They said something about how they didn't want the players stuck with a very low amount of health and sometimes breaking the game completely, forcing the player to restart the mission.
Also, 11 more posts until gold for you. congrats.

Nah there IS health regen but its gonna be slow or limited. Health items are still in but he specifically said he can't say what. Its gonna be an interesting system.
i just need some orange drink
And lemon-lime flavour, too!
I wouldn't be too nervous about the HP regen, because in DE1 after you got regen aug you never really needed Health Kits anymore. And if you explored, you would have sulprus of 20 BE cells at all times. :colbert:

But lemon-lime tastes horrible, I wanted orange.

Because this ones going to play out exactly the same using the same system and their going to make items available at the same rate.

My argument was that in DE1 you basically had regenning health.

I thought you were assuming that DX:HR was gonna have health regen play out the same as DE1. Take this vial of people as my apology.

Yeah no problem, I have tendency of wording my sentences badly anyway. People often misinterpret what I was trying to say. :sweatdrop:

I fucking hate that third person stealth. Hate it. Part of what made Deus Ex so fun was that the stealth was a lot more realistic than a lot of games. So I guess they didn't really get it right this time, because they're making an immersive and sadly, unique feature, and dumbing it down to try and appeal to the general audiences.
I guess a large factor of what made games so good back then, was that the mainstream didn't play them, so there was no mainstream influences that the actual gamers hate.

I think I saw someone, guy in a coat *10 minute stare* its him!
Self awareness is better.
Bad AI was what made the stealth in DX1 silly as hell. Stealth didn't exist beyond line of sight and sound in DX1.
DX:HR has it enhanced by the fact you are aware of where your body is positioned and what is being exposed. They've also obviously got more advanced AI than 10 years ago so the enemy isn't just gonna stand there if he gets a glimpse of an augmented agent running back and forth at a corner. He's gonna run to check who is there immediately.
Metal gear solid and Splinter cell are the two top stealth series (ignoring the later outings) and both are in third person. Neither of them sucked because of this. First person does not always equal instant immersion regardless of what context it is put in.
That fucking avatar, damn you.

I agree.
Too many people are holding on tight to the gameplay, functionality and mechanics of Deus Ex 1.
I believe a 3rd-person cover system is much better for stealthing.
"Huh? What was that? Meh, it was probably nothing."

Hey, it was realistic to me because it was one of the few stealth games I've played with first person that actually gives you more risks with stealth.
Everyone does all their stealth games in 3rd person, I know what it's like, I've peeked around my fair share of corners without actually putting any part of my charactor around the corner. I'm sick of that. I want to be able to actually take a risk looking around a corner to look for enemies and find cooler ways to do it. Reflective surfaces, shadows, lights. All of these become pointless when the player can simply peek around the corner with their camera.
I fucking loved how in Metro 2033, I spotted an enemy behind me because I saw it's shadow on the ground.

DX isn't primarily stealth. HR isn't either. They have to cater for multiple choice therefor they can't make one section overly detailed compared to another. A lot of time was spent on narrative and nailing the gameplay without overdoing it is tough.
In the time they've had I think they have done pretty damn well, especially with having to live up to such a tough fan audience.
BTW Sgtnapalm they have a crossbow.
Awesome.
But I remember in Deus Ex, you could fire a crossbow into a wall and the enemies would hear it and go to investigate. I wonder if the AI in this game will have similar behavior, but more realistic.

If you want a really good stealth game, check out Thief 1 and 2.
Incrementally it's the same engine as Deus Ex but it has tweaked AI.

Yeah most certainly. The crossbow in this is a big one but still fun. Pins em to walls with the default ammo. The scope can adjusts for gravity according to your target but I guess that is a weapon mod, still awesome though.

I like the game so far, but it looks way more futuristic than Deus Ex, which doesn't make any sense
I like the game so far, but it looks way more futuristic than Deus Ex, which doesn't make any sense

"We released the first screenshots and people said, oh man - it's a prequel that's set twenty years before Deus Ex, and it looks more technologically advanced. Well the thing is that if you look at the computer screens or television screens in Deus Ex, then our real-world monitors are already bigger, flatter and of a higher resolution than that in the modern day.
"What do you do with that? Don't get me wrong we are doing this game for the fans and everything, but you can't just make it for the fans. It makes no sense. It's undebatable. It would be weird to make 4:3 ratio screens in the world, just because we want to fit in with the first one."
They're just trying to make the game look good.
I'd probably be better if everyone stopped thinking about this as a Deus Ex that takes place in the same universe, and more of as a Deus Ex that brings back the same gameplay and features that we love.

Like someone said, the AI was so horrible that stealth was overly easy and unrealistic. Also the transitions from third person to first look incredibly smooth judging from the video.
I've always considered DE:HR from what I've seen, as taking place in the golden times of society (DX1 took place during a depression).
I mean have you seen stuff on what the 1920's in America were like? "Car in every garage! Vacumme Cleaners for everyone! Party party party! High class life!". Then the 1930's and 1940's happened, suddenly everything is economically and socially depressesed.
I think the devs are taking this approach to DX:HR, and the story will probably explore what led to the "depression" and the setting of DX1 vs. DX:HR.
Hell they might even go artsy fartsy and have the beginning of the game be all bright and sunny/'realistic' and by the end of the game, dominated by dark cloudy night skys. The latter of which was used entirely in DX1 as a symbol for opression, depression, and just because it gave a higher "dark conspiracy" feel to the game.

oh well yes I do love that aspect in the first person vs third person debate, but you can't deny that stealth in DX1 was terribly easy
I always got caught in Deus Ex, but I think it was cause the stealth is broken. It seems to work for you with the retarded AI and then against you when they get super enhanced senses.
Maybe I am used to Splinter Cell.

No offense, but the Deus Ex AI is incredibly easy to sneak around. Just sit in a dark corner and they walk right past you.
FFS...
Fucking sucks that they're adding Automatic Takedowns...
I know it's to give the game a cinematic quality (As if it doesn't already have that), but damn, it basically strips you of most if not ALL freedom or difficulty when facing against an enemy or maybe a group of some enemies...
"Herp Derp, I actually have to stop and think how I need shoot this guy, THE GAME IS TOO HARD"
There's really no difference from takedowns and bashing someone in the back of the head with a prod, they both require you to get right behind the enemy and they are both silent kills/knockouts.
I duno, so long as you have to actually sneak up behind the guy without him noticing you, and if his freinds notice you taking him down, they shoot at you, it really doesn't sound much different from the original. I mean the baton or whatever it was called could knock most enemies out in one hit if you did it right.
This.
Third person stealth could be okay.. All i'm thinking is that I hate the whole looking around basically the other side of walls thing that comes with third person cameras. Plus camera problems in general. In my opinion it's unneccessary, like they just arbitrarily decided it was going to be third person.

I don't think I ever bothered with shadows cause they always looked too bright to hide in
