Is it worth it?
How much?
I love this game. I have wasted hundreds of hours away in this. Overall i enjoy the rogue the most, because they rather quickly dominate everything, but running a little tavern with a patron and seeing people drink and dance in the evening is pretty cool aswell.

It's a shame multiplayer is so messed up. It's pretty much unplayable online due to desyncs and save corruption, although you can sometimes be lucky and have a game lasting several hours. But it's most of the time wasted effort due to the corruption issues. Hamachi does not solve anything either. Such a shame, as it's fantastic to play this with a few friends.

Is there lan and does it work any better than online, or is it the same?
Hamachi has worked pretty well for me and my friends, but maybe we're lucky and have just mostly avoided de-syncs. Although sometimes we do have problems and sometimes we don't. We're spread out all over the US, so it's not a local thing either.
For those asking if it's worth it? I'd price it for me at worth $20-30. Modded SP pushes it up to the 30 side of that.
I got it off amazon for, 8.95.

What are some of the mods you use?

There is LAN, but i have never tried it locally. Usually use Hamachi, as it seems to improve stability over normal online play.
I just noticed there is a new patch since last time i played. The latest one seems to fix corruption problems, so that should make it much more playable. Just make sure to save all the time during online play.

Use McCoy's mod pack. Has all the mods you'd ever want to put on it, that I could find anyway.
How does the multiplayer work in this game? Does each player start as a different family and then the game plays as normal singleplayer game, or does it work differently?
every time my character marries someone she has died of the plague before a baby can be formed my dynasty will die before it's even begun.

Multiplayer is exactly the same as singleplayer. Other players just replace the other dynasties you see in the game.
I have no idea how to do the other classes but rogue. Anyone mind explaining how to play the others?
How big is the game? Like how many towns or whatnot?
Best thing on multiplayer is how you can dominate the political positions.
If you get up you can easily fill up the lower ranks with your own people.
I find it most important to run out immediately and marry some girl and get 3-5 babies.
Scholar is the best imho
How big is the game? Like how many towns or whatnot?
Some maps are 1 or 2 towns. Theres 1 thats like 4 towns spread out around the North Sea with smaller trading settlements scattered about.
god. i'm hooked on this game
So will Pirates run standalone, or do I have to have the Guild 2 basegame too?
So will Pirates run standalone, or do I have to have the Guild 2 basegame too?
Just pirates. Thought I made that clear in OP.
To whoever said they couldn't play anything but rogue: take my advice and be a patron. Buy a croft, and a corral. Have your starting character "sow" the corral for cows. Put all workers on cow production. Cows always sell for 175, no matter supply/demand etc. Good steady income.
Also, if it is EVER possible, if you're a craftsman buy a mine. Huge income boost right there.
I am the opposite i can play anything but rogue i always end up prisonned/executed/outlawed and poor
Got to murder your accuser. You can also try kidnapping or knocking them unconscious shortly before the trial. It's a pretty nasty cycle, where you have to keep killing to survive, but you also get accused more often. If you miss killing someone before the trial, just leave town. You will be outlawed, but it's not worse than being executed.

Not unless, you are of noble blood, then the judge will take that into account, basically you might go to prison for a round. If the people like you enough, who are doing the judging, you might get cleared of the charges.

Or you could be unlucky and lose a title worth 100000 gold, which seriously sucks ass. Not worth the risk letting them attend the trial.

Thats true.
on rogue all you need to do is get those highway men on a busy ass road
put two cannon turrets on each side, build a lumber mill on the other side of the road (since you can only build towers by your own buildings), and build an additional two cannon turrets just opposite of the first two turrets
get the shipping/storage building in misc. and set all your men to waylay. you'll have four cannon turrets killing the escorts and you'll rack in huge money. easily get 100k. be sure to micromanage the ship, always selling to the counting houses. you'll have so much shit you won't even need to do the counting house sales
while this is going on, bribe people for XP and make an upgraded thieves den to use as your infantry. kill everyone in the way of your immunity position in the local government, using the spy to finish them off.
once you get an immunity position, start makin' babies and swarm the local governments
you can do whatever the fuck you want once you get there, lol
that's just what i do, anyways.
Rogue is the easiest class. Just buy a thieves den and a pirate fortess(or the lower level ones w/e they're called). Set pickpockets in the largest city where the most traffic is. When it starts to become late and workers tend to go home(rogues work 24/7) send your rogues inside the tavern to pickpocket. With the pirate fortress I never fuck with ships as they tend to cost alot to upkeep so make sure you buy the maximum amount of trollops and stick them in high traffic areas aswell because their radius is so small.
And always buy the upgrades that improve Stealth/Charisma because the higher these stats are the more money your workers make. One time I was in a meeting in the townhall as I was the town jailer and had just spent nearly all my money upgrading my 2 workshops. When I left the meeting my 3 rogues and 3 whores had made over 15k in that small window.
I managed to become the towns poor as hell Colonel craftsman in five hours
I've never tried starting a game as a rogue, but now I think i'm going to go try it. I understand it's a bit more difficult with the mod pack but i'll try. I really want to get an Imperial position eventually.
Guild 2 Renaissance came out. Has anyone tried it yet?
This game is actually pretty rad, playing it without mods right now, maybe try out McCoy's pack later on, after I start understanding this game more.
I ran into a couple problems though, I couldn't figure out how to get my son (after his schooling and apprenticeship) to work for me in my smithy.
Also, can you really only add a family member to your group just the one time? I would like to set my son free to do whatever his AI wants to do, but I'd like to be able to keep control of him when I want. Is there a way to enable 'free will' sort of thing for group members?
You not playing Renaissance? It has all the content of the originals, and adds loads of stuff to do. Released just a little while ago.
