Ok so my mate has forwarded their ports and hosts but i still get 'can't connect to the server' when i join.
check his server.properties in notebook
online-mode=true
server-ip=
should be there make sure the ip is blank
edit: also have him check out [URL="http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Data_Values"]data values[/URL] for the /give command once you get it up
edit2: also try without the port on the end of the ip which should be different than the ip he uses to connect

ipconfig doesent show you what ip people use to connect to YOU it shows your local ip

You can't spawn/remove stuff near the spawn place. You gotta move out a bit.
