4 or 5 years is a MASSIVE stretch. Its not that Notch will stop working on it, its that people will stop playing. Updates is good and all but people wont give their attention that long
but in that amount of time, who knows how many new things would have been added, which would keep people interested?

Well, he has plans for new game modes and having survival mode connect to myspace/facebook or something, so I think that it will last awhile before people stop playing. He said that when the game dies and he stops with updates completely, he'll release the source code.

I dunno. What if Valve kept updating Half Life? It wouldnt still be played today, thats for sure. The only hope I have that it'll live that long is TF2, but TF2's updates are massive and hyped up, Minecrafts updates are generaly small chunks of an update every now and again

Considering it isn't even in beta yet I would say it does have a good few years ahead of it.

Many, many, many people still play mods that run on the half life engine. It's like playing half life. Counter Strike wouldn't exist without half life

Yeah, half life and its mods are still played plenty, but its died down a massive amount compared to what it was before. Perhaps Minecraft wont die and stop completly, but in 2 years it would of died down alot, and by 5 I doubt people would know about it.

I think that if Notch releases the source code, people will use the Minecraft engine to make amazing mods. Counter Strike 1.x is a half life mod, you know.
*sigh*
What about: We'll see.

Yes I know about counter strike, but you can't simply stretch a game that far, even with the source code released. I mean I hope it does I love minecraft, but looking at it realistically just makes it look bad. i hope in the distant future its on steam though. That'd be awesome

If it goes on Steam, I expect the sales for it to sky rocket. Notch should really come in contact with Valve to see if he can do that
new post

Didn't notch say he wasnt interested in steam at first, then when Valve mentioned Minecraft on the TF2blog, he said it would be his dream or something? Cuz Steamminecraft would be awesome. Minecraft TF2 hat, anyone?

He was, and using Steam Cloud for SMP and stuff would be awesome. Notch loves Valve and has like 200 steam games, he said in a stream.

Gabe and Notch seem like awesome people, and with their forces combined, they make captian planet. But yeah if Minecraft was on steam it would be pretty damn neat.Now on an unrelated note, holy cunt Notch is getting alot of interviews and Minecraft is getting alot of mentions.
Give us update ;_;
Give us update ;_;
Patience. You need it.
Notch reminds me a lot of Gabe, they both care about their community and talk to them, they update their games like 5 times a week, they're funny, they go to a lot of places, and other stuff
If you guys would like to know, it's coming in 50 - 60 minutes.
You can quote me on that.
The guy who made those TF2 8bit things made a lot of other awesome stuff, too

Notch is going to Valve in early September. He didn't say Valve exactly, but c'mon. He mentioned his heroes and the north west of the USA.
