My shop had a basment are underground, away from the counter. Underneath it were a series of hallways where I placed all my wares. I didn't place them in chests. I made the gold, iron and diamonds into solid blocks and placed them.

it will be like this:
the currency will use iron ingots and blocks, gold ingots and blocks, and diamond ingots and blocks.
a block of a mineral (i.e a gold one) will be worth an ingot of the next currency level.
the levels go:
iron > gold > diamond.
so an iron block is worth a gold ingot.
if an object is worth a diamond ingot, the customer would give 9 gold blocks. you see where it is going?

The problem with gold is that it's the most useless ore in the game, so it is not worth anything near as it should be.
