Pretty common, they take it down every day for maintenance or to update it from what I've seen. It'll probably be back up in less than an hour.
Being that its a work in progress, I'd imagine they would have to restart/take the server down to fix something that was badly messed up/etc on occasion. At least it was an announced server down as opposed to it just abruptly going down.

How is weaponsmith in terms of material usage?
I played for a bit today, did a few tailor custom orders and logged off. Apparently my real SWG Subscription still has recurring payments processing properly even though the credit card I used on my official SWG account is no longer owned by me. Which is awesome because now I also have a free official SWG account so I can claim my veteran rewards and stuff if Sony EVER decides to pull their heads out of their ass and bring back Pre-CU (One can dream, right?)

You should claim them, sell them for credits, sell your credits to a credit farmer for money.
SWG Credits aren't really worth anything and the community is basically completely dead, and the NGE made me sick to my stomach, so I quit playing right away.

Bloodfin is still pretty active, and there going to add a new content pack after fain fair.
Only problem I have with Swg now is having to deal with spies in pvp. by the time you notice their attacking you you're at half health.
I just checked bloodfin it used to be my main server, it's been dead for over a year, starsider is the only server that's somewhat active. 10 whole people on mos eisley (holy shit!)

And all the new content is extra faff that will NEVER be able to compensate for the terrible gameplay mechanics and the fact that they changed the timescale to like 50% faster than Pre-CU and it is honestly vomit inducing.

I'll have to look into this later, I've been playing SWG on and off for a while now, but I was really too young to remember anything from when I played Pre-CU, so now I can finally see what the fuss is all about.

I think they were already sliced. They were 1.7 speed and like 63-180 or 200 I think.
