What's needed to play the emu? Just a retail copy I assume?
A legal copy. Nothing more. [editline]25th June 2011[/editline]
...I got a question. WHy is it taking that long to construct a Emu. I mean the full game has been made and all but... why Hasn't it been finished? It's been in development for a really long time, and it takes that long?..
They've completely written their own engine, their own "object handling" code for further optimization, various improvements have been made also. They've basically taken only the models from the retail game and everything else is theirs.
then why require the retail discs..?
Legal technicalities. Basically everything on the disk belongs to the people who bought it so therefore using those models are legal by purchasing the game.

The only thing they seriously need to be developing on is the mission. most stuff are implented except for jtl.

What happens to this game once the SWG is gone forever?
What happens to this game once the SWG is gone forever?
Keeps going?
Keeps going?
How are we suppose to get the retail files once Galaxies goes away though, they're not going to sell the discs any more and it says we can't use the 14 day trial to get the files.
How are we suppose to get the retail files once Galaxies goes away though, they're not going to sell the discs any more and it says we can't use the 14 day trial to get the files.
People will probably be expected to buy a copy off of Ebay or just torrent it.
I would suggest downloading the trial and backing it up somewhere. I still got my retail disks though, so I'm not to worried about it.
The subscriber base dropped from 500,000 to 350,000 during the first big update. It dropped from 350,000 to under 12,000 after the NGE. The game has been kept afloat by the card game and merging of servers.
Wrong.
If I remember correctly, somewhere around 10k a month. LOSING 10,000 subs a month. Note – I think our subs were closer to 160-180 than 200k. It was a bad financial situation no matter how you look at it.
http://rubenfield.com/?p=86
Hopefully interest for this will explode now that retail will be vanishing.
Joined game. Made a wookie. Didn't know what to do. Quit. Joined game again. Made a human. Got a quest. Walked for 25 - 30 minutes. Died. Quit. I will try it again soon with a friend of mine who knows about this game because I sure as hell don't.
Eh, I exited the game 25 minutes after ingame also. The fact that there were no real instruction to it rather then what the windows and popups do, along with the community not speaking most of the time was a real downer. I remember playing SWG, but I don't remember much of it at all.
SWG Emu literally could not be in worse hands.
SWG Emu literally could not be in worse hands.
It could be in John Smedley's hands.
It could be in John Smedley's hands.
ok well maybe besides him But yeah this is never going to get fully completed unless some renegade SOE employee leaks the source code for Pre-CU or CU.
I was under the impression they were just reverse engineering everything from the Total experience disks, and everything they couldn't they build ground up themselves
Full suit of composite armor. Just kidding... I'm poor as fuck
this is still in development wow depressing
Full suit of composite armor. Just kidding... I'm poor as fuck
I remember when Composite was the best armor there was, and a full suit of it made out of high quality resources ran you about 250k Credits, if that much. Hell I remember before there were any major harvesters built and everyone was harvesting by hand to get some small ones up, when you had to run across a planet on foot to get somewhere, when you only saw 1 or 2 Jedi in 6 months of playing... The Corellian Corvette update, the Droid Invasion update, the Imperial crackdown update... those were good times When I played SWG, I was a TKM/Master Doc. Knock Down + Mind Hit 3 in the day, Sitting in Coronet with my buffbot by night, servicing an actual line of people for 10k Credits a buff. Coronet's Cantina was so full of people you couldn't find ANYONE specific, and the chat ran faster than Han Solo's falcon. I doubt you could find more than 5 people in Coronet at any one time on Any server today
-nvm i fixed it- Anyone wanna play with me? I.. have no clue what to do / where to go / what I'm doing

Good times, good times, I remember when I got my AV-21 had racing stripes and everything on it. Took forever to get it from that corellian corvette instance. I had a melee character that was basically a stacker, primary was TKM but had a bunch of defense stacks and shit. Knockdown + mindhit people would rage. I remember when going in to a cantina i would lag out for a good minute or so and then be fine, same with starports and the area around it. PACKED with people. Good times, good times. SWG was one of the only mmo's I felt like I could just chill out and do whatever I wanted. Not many games hook people in for 7-8 years.
I remember the day when i got SWG, i sat, in college, reading tales of bounty hunters, tracking down elusive jedi, likewise the tales of jedi decimating people, and being rare as sin, i ordered the game! Once apon a morning dreary, while i pondered weak and weary over many a quaint curious FAQ's of class lore, as While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. `'Tis the mail,' I muttered, `arriving at my chamber door - i will play only this, and nothing more.' Then i installed it, found jedi on the class screen, found out the game had been butchered said fuck that and uninstalled it.
I dont know what the hell to do...
I dont know what the hell to do...
Live the greatest Star Wars saga.... Yours!
So if I get the trial installer I will be set to play this when the servers shut down? [editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
People will probably be expected to buy a copy off of Ebay or just torrent it.
But it says... "To setup SWGEmu, you will need ORIGINAL Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) CD’s, yes ORIGINAL, ACTUAL, PHYSICAL Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) CD’s. You can not use downloaded copy from D2D or STEAM, you can not use 14 day trial client or any other trial client, you can not use client obtained through torrent or warez sites. So get yourself ORIGINAL SWG CD’s, you can buy them cheap on e-bay or amazon.com. There are quite a few versions that have been released over the years and any version of SWG will work."
It's a thing to cover their own ass.
Well I'm in soon, after SWG closes I'll be in even more seriously, grinding and such, but I'm excited for the 'Special surprise' sony is talking about for the end of SWG, a special instance... Maybe one universal instance, all server put there, a final battle, the battle of Endor maybe with a Death Star II space instance. It seems like a good way to end 8 years of a mmo, the same way they ended movies. (Because the prequels aren't real star wars movies and Old Republic wont be a real followup to SWG) Siiiiigh, this game is going to be missed, and now I'm rambling, heh, well expect me in here some time this weekend.
I don't know If I will even go to the ending event. I'm not paying a sub for a game that is going to close soon. Yes they said pay till this date and get the rest for free. That is bullshit though, other games that announce they're done and shutting down gave free subs right at the announcement. I can't believe SOE had the nerve to ask people to continue paying for a game that is getting shutdown in a few months.
