Hold on a second, I made a character on the Nova Test Center (or whatever) and noticed I could instantly master bounty hunter and found it weird so I headed to basilisk...can somebody give me some basic learning on the basics of the game? It's very hard to tell what the hell is going on, or what I'm supposed to be doing. Once I'm on my feet, I'll be able to grind, sell or whatever.
I would wait until the permanent server is up. Right now the test server just gives you everything and there is no point in doing anything other than testing combat.

So I just play on Basilisk right?
If you took the tutorial, you also should have gotten an option near the end to get novice Brawler as well. You have enough skill points that you can completely master 3 professions or dabble here and there in whatever suits your fancy. Some advanced professions benefit from completely mastering their original profession. For an example, any profession that uses firearms(except MAYBE Bounty Hunter and Commando, dunno myself) benefits from mastering Marksman as total mastery gives a nice boost to accuracy and rate of fire for all firearms(except again possibly Bounty Hunter and Commando weapons).
You need master marksman to learn BH or Commando.
Anyone have a video of recent gameplay?
So, which town do I start in?
[editline]7th June 2012[/editline]
Been making chump change off of fetchquests.
So, which town do I start in?
I always start in Mos Eisely for combat, they have the lowest leveled mobs. That and there's no lakes so whenever you're doing a destroy mission from the terminals it doesn't generate a lair in the lake.

Theres actually like, one, and its called the oasis or some shit
Tomorrow's the big wipe, then the server will be stable, so, FP wanna get a group going tomorrow? Someone make a scout, set up camp near low and medium level monsters, and we can just grind/talk/relax together.
Just a warning judging from how the EMU has gone in the past: I can semi-guarantee there will be another wipe on the main server within the first month. So don't get too attached right away.
If it doesn't happen feel free to quote me and laugh at me.

I think everybody is used to the wipes by now. It's just an awful time to introduce new players into the game.
I'm not sure how I can play this yet. I haven't found a guide yet, but I have the original game from years ago. I bought it as a kid when I didn't know it was a monthly payment, so I never even played it.

Nevermind, got it working with the game I had. Here I come.
Isn't there supposed to be an automerge? :?
Always been interested in this game but never been able to find a copy to play it. :c

Well, at this point, since SWG has shut down, you can just torrent it, unless you wanna buy a copy of the game to play it's free version.

The devs say they actively go after people who use torrented versions but they're just saying that to cover their ass. They can't tell if you torrented it or not, just don't go around being all like "pirate 4 lyfe" in game and you should be good.

It'd be nice if once SWGEmu is fully released, didn't require the original discs.

Well, SWGEmu is kinda built off the base of SWG, so unless they start using the client to upload the original data for the players to get, which could only happen if Sony Online says they would, and now that SWG is dead and gone (sadly), I'm sure they could talk something out. SWG is like a game mod, this would be like, making a map for, let's say Fallout, but giving the players the paid-for-DLCs (or expansion packs and all other data that's on the original discs).

It's not up to Sony, Lucas Arts has full control over the remains of SWG and anything that will be done with it. It's the reason why the NGE happened and it's the reason why SWG shut down at the same time SWTOR came out.
i should really read a guide because i have no idea what im doing!

Basically find a brawler trainers, a scout trainer, and a medic trainer and learn novice in each. Heal people in the Cantina on Mos Eisly (one of the few continuously populated towns) and gain medic exp to put in the tree that gives you healing efficiency (by memory I think it's the third tree, ie: x-x-4-x). And pick up missions from the regular mission terminal (not the scout, entertainer, or artisan terminal), complete the missions unarmed to level up your unarmed skill. Use your scout abilities to harvest the creatures for their precious resources (I prefer to get leather) so you can sell some of your resources after a couple hours for a few thousand credits.
Just keep going like that and you'll be good. People are generally friendly as well, just ask around for advice. Also, save money by asking other people to train you in skills when you have enough exp to advance.
What are the main differences between the old SWG/SWGEmu and the post patches version? I never played the pre-patch versions. I only played the trial for the post patch one. Was the ability to space dogfight in the old SWG? I really liked those parts since it reminded me of Tie Fighter/X-Wing, except a bit watered down.

Yes, space combat was in the game before that New Game Experience update. I played SWG a ton when I was in 1st grade.
I played SWGEmu 2 years ago out of nostalgia, and that was the only thing that helped me enjoy it. The game is heavily focused on grinding, but it's pretty fun with friends if you just mess around.
Speaking of friends to play with, I've been playing some other games (Including a beta I can't talk much about (Hint, it involves giant robots.)), and I need some encouragement to come back to SWGEmu, PM if interested.
Tons of NGE folks playing this now, it's really funny. "wtf where can I find quests?"
server is like unplayable right now, so much rubberbanding.
I'm installing SWGEmu right now. Let's see if I can remember how to play. I played more NGE/CE then I did Pre, so I mayve have to figure it out all over again.
[editline]16th June 2012[/editline]
Eh its not letting me log in. I'm using my exact login password :/ is the login server down? Its not giving me that error but you never know.
[editline]16th June 2012[/editline]
Oh the server is capped.
Aww space is still not in the main server? Fuck this corporate bullshit.
At least housing and player cities are back. I haven't played Emu for a while, but my brother spends ~6 hours a day playing it.
He's grinded two jedi in past servers on Emu. He never even played it 8 years ago when I did, and he's older than me.
His name is Korimor if his huge-ass ego has preceded him.

There are no quests in SWGEmu?

We were chilling in the Cantina earlier, cool dude. :v:
