then daggerfall doesnt count, neither does spore or most space games
Here's some comparing with GTA 4's map:
Err.. RDR wasn't really THAT big. It didn't take a real long time to get from one corner of the map to the other via horseback.
Spore's game world is pretty big considering its an entire galaxy, and you can explore all the planets you find. I'm late rate me clocks.
Eve must be larger.
Eh... most of that is dead and empty space without a use. It's hardly fair to compare it. As for Guild Wars, I don't think it's very fair to include it, considering much of the map isn't played on (lots of "dead space", just like EVE) Also, the Battleground: Europe map (aka WWIIOnline) is 320,000 square kilometres... making it bigger than any map in the OP.
Only 320 Km²? The last two maps in the first picture in the OP are larger than that. And all the ones in the second picture. [editline]..[/editline] Lol, started writing one sentence, then started a new one halfway through, hate when that happens. Fixed.
My bad, forgot some zeros. I meant to say 320 thousand lol. (it's 800km by 400km, for those interested)
What about X-Plane 10? Or... Any X-Plane, or Microsoft Flight Simulator game.
Flight Simulator is not a game
How come a road in burnout is many kilometers wider than a road in GTA? I call bullshit on this.
Uh.. Daggerfall is 63,000 square miles
Okay, jesus. Forget about it already. I misread some numbers. Which meant my whole argument was wrong. So just, please. Forget about it.
Burnout Paradise one is ridiculously not to scale. The map's about the size of Las Venturas & The desert. And you're limited to the roads only.
Which means Burnout Paradise does not count.
square kilometers don't factor into games because games never ever take real world proportion as their form. You can say Daggerfall had the largest game world ever in terms of square kilometers but that is about it
Isen't there any larger game worlds?
square kilometers don't factor into games because games never ever take real world proportion as their form. You can say Daggerfall had the largest game world ever in terms of square kilometers but that is about it
Every game takes real world proportions as their form in some manner, it's the only way their reality can function. It's different from game to game, but each one can be compared by their tie to reality. Generally this will be the scale of a person, although some games like HL2 uses multiple scales.
Isen't there any larger game worlds?
Shores of Hazeron. http://shoresofhazeron.com/galaxyviewf.html

That could be a problem to determine, especially in cities where most buildings are just filler. General area size is easier to go by.
Minecraft wins because maps are generated on the fly to a virtually infinite size.
Minecraft wins because maps are generated on the fly to a virtually infinite size.
We established that minecraft doesn't count so shut the fuck up. BTW Tyria is bigger than Elona in Guild wars, almost twice as big.
I just got Arma 2 and i'm impressed by how big and how small atsame it somehow feels.
On a related note, here's a video game character size comparison: [img_thumb]http://dl.gamesradar.com/assets/game_size_chart.jpg[/img_thumb] Not too accurate, but I think it's close, mainly with the biggest characters.
And Gabe Newell :fuckyou:
I loled at Gabe Newell
That things bullshit, look at the size of the roads in the burnout map compared to the roads in GTA or JC2, unless they had the lines showing the roads bigger for the purpose of the map.
Randomly generated =/= procedurally generated Just thought I'd leave this here
Well it is largely random, but it will be the same random every time.
Ah-ah. Daggerfall only have randomly produced terrain between cities(and randomly generated dungeons), and even that has some boundaries as to what the terrain should look like. I say Daggerfall is in again.

Randomly generated =/= procedurally generated Just thought I'd leave this here
How about :siren: Any part of a game world that isn't pre-defined is automatically disqualified :siren:
Shallow and inadequate definition.
Lets find the largest gameworld, bigger then Daggerfall
gamesize doesn't even mean anything.
Anyway to get that map without downloading the 1.8 GB mod? I just want to fly around it ><
I'll see if i can upload the pbo. [editline]06:02PM[/editline] just realised, i can't, since it has a ton of objects from the mod itself, well two million
