He's talking about Columbia.
Indeed I am.
Bioshock was bad. It doesn't fill me with delight to hear that this is being developed by the same people. Bioshock stopped being fun the moment I learned the existence of Vita-Chambers and fought the same enemies using the same tactics for the entire game. The plot was built entirely on premise and the twist was contrived, the only good part of the plot was the introduction and the Andrew Ryan encounter. The plot had shot itself down after that and it became an absolute drag after that. I sincerely hope this game is different, but despite it not being Unreal 3's fault that Bioshock looked like everything was constructed of wax, Bioshock 2 suffered from the same issues, and judging from the screenshots we see of Infinite, it looks like they won't ever learn to use texture assets properly. Not only that, but Bioshock 2 took the good aspects of Bioshock 1, and removed them. The atmosphere was completely annihilated when you became a Big Daddy, the oppressive atmosphere it once had going for itself was no more. I understand that it was a slow year for gaming when Bioshock 1 came out, but the critical reception and the GOTY awards being thrown at it put it up for one of my most overrated games of all time, hardly doing anything to equate itself with it's predecessor, System Shock 2, let alone surpassing it. I refuse to believe that a game that was only half as good as a game in 1999 is a GOTY for 2007. I hope they make some serious changes this time around because as shallow as it sounds that people refer to Bioshock as watered down for consoles, I can't play it without thinking the same thing. Vita Chambers really epitomize this. I hate to be the guy to piss on the parade, but I really don't think this game nor it's predecessors deserve any of the hype they get for being a spiritual successor that only successes in deconstructing the good aspects of the previous.
I think if they did drop Bioshock from the name, people would complain that this is just Bioshock but in the air. That's my view anyway. To be honest I don't care what it's called, this game looks fucking awesome. Actually, I think this is the proper sequel to Bioshock (even though it's going to be a prequel). Bioshock 2 was really disappointing, especially after the amazing game that Bioshock 1 was. 2K tried to squeeze another game out of Rapture and I don't think the result was that great. I like what they're doing, showing the idea of Bioshock in a different setting and if they announced that Bioshock 3 was going to be in Rapture again, I would have been really disappointed. Good move Irrational (in my view ).
I want to like this, but it doesn't really feel like Bioshock. I know Rapture wasn't exactly realistic, but at least it was somewhat plausible. This just feels like something out of a fantasy novel.
It was names Project Icarus when they first talked about it. Better name IMO.

I'm probably going to buy it, unless I get a significant reason not too.
Steam powered turrets with AI.
Oh yeah, I forgot about those. Maybe it's not that much of a stretch then.
Should've named it Balloonshock.
In response to Janus Vesta. The ability to turn off Vita Chambers was a patched in addon to the game for PC. The game was designed with vita chambers in mind, you can't just take away an extremely game changing mechanic from the game and expect it to work cohesively. I would also like to mention I played on Hard when I beat it, but it was before the patch for removed Vita Chambers. I'd also like to mention that the gun mechanics were clunky as hell and all the plasmids for killing enemies were completely interchangeable, and except for a few scripted circumstances and plot events, it didn't matter which plasmids you used. This does nothing to remedy the repetition regardless. I'm not saying System Shock 2 was a GOTY all years game, I'm saying that it was amazing for it's time, and while Bioshock makes some improvements, it's just one step forward two steps back in most regards. You're right, Bioshock 1 & 2 wasn't on Unreal 3, it was on Unreal 2.5, I hardly see why that's worth pointing out as it only emphasizes the issues I mentioned. Bioshock hardly had a plot, and what you pointed out was a theme, not a plot. A plot is a sequence of events that occur within the game in order to portray a story, and to bring emphasis to the theme you speak of. Bioshock was just a nice premise with long stretches of repetitive gameplay, a handful of cutscenes, a contrived mind control twist, and a ridiculously boring stretch of repetition following it, and the worst ending I've seen in a while. Also note that I was saying Bioshock was 'one of the most overrated' games. That happens to be plural and yes I recognize that Modern Warfare 2 is more overrated. The changes you mentioned for Infinite sound nice, and I was only saying that I hope they build off of the crippling issues it's predecessors had. Hope for the best, but I am sad that more people aren't willing to give constructive criticism to Bioshock, rather then fellating a very mediocre title so that 2K will not realize it's problems and only expand upon them, ala Bioshock 2.
I can imagine what that guy's thinking. "Shit, I got thrown out a window." "Yay, I caught a blimp." "Shit, It ripped." "Yay, some chick using telekinesis is saving me." "Shit, she got taken by a huge thing with wood fingers." "What a day I'm having."
your long speech isn't going to make people agree with your opinion
I'm discussing things on a discussion board. Is there a problem? I'm not here to win people over. In fact it's that kind of mentality that makes discussion boards obnoxious.

I think it looks kinda cool. All bright and shiny and nice.
JRPG series doesn't count as you could slap some anime girls doing wierd shit in ANY GAME and people would buy it, irrelevant to what the story was.
Have you played it? Cause i would seriously recommend then if you have a PS2. It certanly isn't crazy anime girls doing weird shit EXCEPT maybe Persona 4. Seriously, search for some videos of games like Devil Summoner 2 or Digital Devil Saga, and then come back and tell me what you think.
I won't judge it too much yet but... I don't know without the splicers, water, and plasmids it won't really be a bioshock game. I'm sure it'll be fun in it's own way.
I do agree with this though. Shin Megami Tensei always had the core gameplay the series was famous for. If it doesn't have the original gameplay, athmosphere and plasmids of Bioshock they might as well call this "Crazy Awesome Steampunk Adventure". ... That would actually be a pretty good name for a game.

The game was designed with vita chambers in mind, you can't just take away an extremely game changing mechanic from the game and expect it to work cohesively. On the 360 the option was there from the beginning, and the game played well enough without them. This does nothing to remedy the repetition regardless. I'm not saying System Shock 2 was a GOTY all years game, I'm saying that it was amazing for it's time, and while Bioshock makes some improvements, it's just one step forward two steps back in most regards. All it did was improve on what System Shock did. It didn't mess up anything System Shock did, but it fixed the shitty menu system. Bioshock 2 didn't fix anything. You're right, Bioshock 1 & 2 wasn't on Unreal 3, it was on Unreal 2.5, I hardly see why that's worth pointing out as it only emphasizes the issues I mentioned. Yes, thanks, I know what a plot is. And the mind control twist wasn't contrived, it was foreshadowed throughout the game and made a point that in every game you're not really in control, you're just doing what the developer wants you to do. And yes, the plot could have been done better, but there are a lot of games with worse plots. Also note that I was saying Bioshock was 'one of the most overrated' games. That happens to be plural and yes I recognize that Modern Warfare 2 is more overrated. What crippling issues? I assume you mean how rediculously easy the game is. But I agree, they shouldn't just try to cash in on the Bioshock name, but considering it's apparently been in production for a few years already I don't think they'll just copy previous games.
Never liked Bioshock. I felt that the combat was incredibly stiff and awkward. So I'm not going to pay any attention to this since chances are high it will be about the same, at least that's what I think.
In response to Janus Vesta. http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/Patch_1.1 Incorrect, the Vita Chamber Removal option was patched in with this patch. Although your point has been made that it can be removed. The hardest thing I'm having trouble articulating about Bioshock is just the lack of substance. It doesn't do anything well. The gun mechanics are shallow and clunky. The plasmids are completely interchangeable, and you can exchange one for the other without much consideration in any given circumstance. The plot was weak, the ending was terrible, the graphics were mediocre. The only thing the game did particularly well was the atmosphere, and that was only for the first part of the game, before it turned into a series of repetition. I think nostalgia is making me think System Shock 2 was a better game, because at the time, the mechanics it had were fresh and didn't get old even when the game ended. Bioshock was obviously consolized though, the animation framerate was locked at the console screen refresh framerate, so even when I was running 60FPS, the objects and NPC's were only moving at 24FPS. A particularly lazy oversight. The graphics were obviously catered to low memory, because the texture resolutions and object detail was exceedingly low, which doesn't impact modern PC's very much what with high memory, which is moot anyways because the option doesn't exist only because it was thrown over.
The graphics weren't mediocre what the fuck are you talking about.
I want a fucking horror game, not this bullshit. [editline]10:25PM[/editline]
Are you kidding me giant metal monsters with drills for arms and lightning shooting out of your hands doesn't require suspension of belief for you?
Well bioshock didn't have evil people with handlebar mustaches and flag pants.
The graphics weren't mediocre what the fuck are you talking about.
Yes, yes they were. The art design was nice, but it was severely hindered by the engine and the assets. Doom 3 even impressed me more visually because of all the texture/object LOD loading and cut frame animations. Those are severe fucking issues that really hindered my enjoyment.

Those were actual plots, in which things actually occurred within the game instead of the plot being spoonfed to you in a handful of cutscenes. Bioshock was like a shortstory that could be told in two pages.
I'm sick of the people who bitch about System Shock being so much better than Bioshock. I've played both System Shocks and both Bioshocks. The only real difference was Bioshock had less menus. The gameplay was virtually the same except in System Shock if you want a new gun you open a menu, equip your gun, equip the ammo type, then accept. In Bioshock you press one button to choose the weapon andd one other to choose your ammo. HOW IS THAT A BAD THING? Fuck I hate PC elitists, they're worse than console-tards.
system shock was also scary so everything else really doesn't matter.
So, Aeroshock?
