Two can play at that game, anyone can take specific images and make one look better then the other.

You should see how Bioshock looks when the textures are loading in your face. My googled screenshot is being generous.
Metal Gear Solid series, Persona 4, Xenosaga, Heavy Rain, etc.. Those were actual plots, in which things actually occurred within the game instead of the plot being spoonfed to you in a handful of cutscenes. Bioshock was like a shortstory that could be told in two pages.
uhhhh so bioshock is plot spoonfeeding but metal gear solid 4, a game in which more than half of the total play time is cutscenes, isn't
Here's the thing sonny, complexity does not equal quality. Sometimes a simple story is a better story, and metal gear solid is a perfect example of that.
I made another thread with more info.
The hardest thing I'm having trouble articulating about Bioshock is just the lack of substance. It doesn't do anything well. The gun mechanics are shallow and clunky. The plasmids are completely interchangeable, and you can exchange one for the other without much consideration in any given circumstance. The plot was weak, the ending was terrible, the graphics were mediocre.
Bioshock has one of the most fully realized plots i can think of in a game. sure its not all in front of you but if you explore and read audio diaries there are definite conclusions you can draw.
The gun mechanics were well done in my opinion, and the plasmids were not interchangeable in that they were used for specific circumstances even unrelated to the plot. Electro volt kills enemies in water, the fire plasmid ignites oil, etc.
I agree with the ending, it's like they just threw it in at the last moment.
And you're on crack or something if you think the graphics were mediocre. they were downright ridiculous for 2007 and I can go so far as to say bioshock was the first xbox 360 game to truly blow my mind in terms of graphics.
Also, why are we even arguing about the first two bioshocks?

I refuse to accept example based arguments from people who have never played the game. Let alone the others I've mentioned.
Metal Gear Solid 4 has a complex story, but that doesn't make it bad by any means, and the others I've mentioned don't have complex stories. Don't strawman bullshit me and expect me to feel refuted.
And please don't use condescending terms like 'sonny', it just makes you sound like an elitist prick.
system shock was also scary
so everything else really doesn't matter.
Systems Shock wasn't that scary. The monkeys ruined all the immersion for me. Fucking little shits.

Bioshock still looks significantly better... try harder.

When I played bioshock I only got just past the part where you kill [sp]Andrew Ryan[/sp] (had to wipe my harddrive), and I thought it had absolutely superb visuals and plot. The combat wasn't amazing but it was very nice, and I actually thought it had quite a polished, fluid feel to it (whereas most people seem to be complaining it was clunky).
Well this can't be any worse than that uninspirational unoptimised piece of shit that was called Bioshock 2.

The oil lying around, water on the ground thing has all the depth and complexity of shooting an oil barrel in an FPS. It's fine that one will give you the advantage, but it's so easy to win using any plasmid anyways that you're not really rewarded for being intuitive.
The plot felt far too reserved to give any sense of 'realized' in my opinion, but that's just how I feel. Far too simplistic and formulaic to give me any feel of immersion.
Not to mention that I will severely emphasize the texture popping and LOD loading and animation cut framerate AGAIN for the 100th time. Yes the game looks nice in stills but those technical bugs which have never been fixed always pull me out of the immersion immediately. The game was plagued with visual technical bugs I hadn't seen before Bioshock.
The gun mechanics were very shallow simply because of the circumstances you were thrown into. Corridor shooting guarantees shallow gun mechanics against only a handful of enemies because the range is always consistent.

To each his own, this isn't the point of the argument so let's not cling to this one aspect too much. The main point about visuals which I will say again for the last time is Texture popping, LOD loading and cut animation framerate which is a constant visual bug that is always happening.
That is the hindrance, not the still pot shots.
Why did I laugh at the trailer?

I can't say I ever noticed any of those problems but I can imagine that being very irritating. Come to think of it, my computer refused to even run the game, until I got a new hard-drive. I think the game definitely suffered from a lack of testing. Though once I got it running I never had a single problem, I think.
Aside from this, I found the game to feel incredibly polished and well realised. The plot was simple (as much of the plot as I got up to, anyway), but I felt it was deep and immersive at the same time.
How the fuck did you people get from Bioshock's story to calling MGS4's story rubbish, unless I've taken this wrong.
Looks cool but the title is pretty lame.
1912? Fuck!
Now there won't be any haunting Billie Holiday or such playing from record players, which was one of my most favorite parts of the first two games.
I think they purposely made the title lame. They're shooting for a strong american stereotype. Just look at Obama's campaign: "CHOICE" fucking everywhere. In my eyes, 'infinity' and all of the other words american ideals are built from, are in the same lexis.
Though I'd have omitted 'bioshock' from the title, if I'm honest.

The plot was far from simplistic and formulaic because it worked on multiple levels. On one hand you get an interesting story with plot twists and an unforgettable villain, on the other you get a cautionary tale of objectivism to satisfy all those philosophical gamers.
The game itself was above average in all fields, gameplay, graphics, story, etc. and that is why so many people love it.
Oh, and the texture loading is an issue with all unreal engine games.
Well what's going to replace a big daddy?
System Shock isn't exactly the same as BioShock.
System Shock is a fantastic combination of RPG and FPS. BioShock is A shooter with different weapon affects.
System Shock has more menus because there are more things to do, it's like the purest RPGFPS ever. BioShock is even less than RPG-Lite.
They're both fantastic, but System Shock is very different from BioShock.
It would be interesting if they explored all of the different styles described in Bioshock 1's intro. I mean where Andrew Ryan is describing how he says "No, said the man Washington", etc etc. Like, the same series of games could use the idea of epic fictional cities with different ideals.

I said the premise was interesting, which satisfies the objectivity aspect. I liked the premise, the plot however did nothing to sate me. Far too simple and the twists did little for me. I facepalmed pretty hard at the 'would you kindly' twist.
However I like Andrew Ryan and his speeches were great, but the plot feel short and pretty much ended halfway through the game, the Unreal Engine's texture loading hindered my graphical immersion, the gunplay was shallow and clunky no matter how you look at it, the game was too easy to consider strategy, and I refuse to believe that it deserved GOTY 2007 whether or not you choose to believe it as an above average title.
oh wow, i had the hd trailer on youtube uploaded before pc gamer yet it decided to take 5 hours to process, nice.

You must have a shitty PC because I have never experienced any of those things.
It is a known fact that the PC versions of BioShock had those issues.
However the texture loading is a Unreal Engine issue so every platform has that.
Can't wait. Played both 1 & 2.
I I facepalmed pretty hard at the 'would you kindly' twist.
Really? my jaw dropped at that part.
Oh well, to each his own.
In response to my post earlier, I said Halo 3 because I it was the only game at the time that had a 3 on the name/ represented the third in a series, I do agree, it was/is good. Call of Duty 3 would have been a better example. But I do Feel that The more recent Halos are using the name to get more sales. Which is sort of smiler to this "Bioshock 3".
So, three games is milking? Video games would suck if you were in charge.
Err, I liked Bioshock because it was in a whole different design, this is just a terrible idea.
The Bioshock trailers are always awesome.
Holy shit that was an amazing cinematic, I'm disappointed in myself that I haven't played Bioshock 1 all the way through let alone the 2nd... I must play it again sometime.
