Woo, finished my placement matches for 2v2 and now I got put into gold... Shit.
Jesus fuck, when nearly every other post in the Starcraft 2 megathread is yours for the past 2 pages you may be a little Starcraft obsessed. [editline]12:42AM[/editline]
Woo, finished my placement matches for 2v2 and now I got put into gold... Shit.
Gold's not bad.
void rays are shit against other air units. vikings out range them massively, a little micro and you won't lose a single one. mutas destroy void rays easily and are much easier to mass. face it, you're wrong. stimmed marines wreck void rays. stalkers wreck void rays. hydras wreck void rays. there is nothing wrong with them.
Which is why protoss has phoenixs. Void rays Vs marines with a little micro you won't lose a single one (void rays that is).
I mean it's probably out of my league.
You are a horrible protoss player if you let your voidrays fight stimmed marines, hydras, or stalkers.
what's fucking overpowered is Terran vs Zerg, on terran's favor. Having mass rines + 3 tanks with siege tech is unbeatable, we have no arsenal that can defeat them in early-mid, by the time you upgrade Lair, they're already pushing
Eehhh I disagree on the viking part. Upgraded voids are faster than vikings and can fire while moving, meaning vikings can't really kite them for more than a few seconds before they catch up. That said I was in a game recently and went at a terran player with 12 voids. He attacked with probably 1.5 times as many vikings and my voids killed all but one viking but that was only because my rays were pre-charged on his command center. Marine + tank is the source of a good chunk of Idra rage. [editline]12:56AM[/editline]
You are a horrible protoss player if you let your voidrays fight stimmed marines, hydras, or stalkers.
That is because they will lose because THEY COUNTER THEM
As a fellow Zerg play I'll tell you that when I start seeing mass bio like marines and what not, go banlings with speed. Siege tanks with a support that can attack air is pretty hard to beat.
that was a personal pronoun clusterfuck
Void rays + mach 5 + in your base + 9999dps = imbalanced when a good player uses them
It is so hard for me to type this. My brain is pounding in shear confusion. You know vikings? You know how they have to transform? You know how you can't attack ground without being on ground level and same thing for air? Yea that makes it balanced. Enjoy.
You were just asking for a way to kill voids, not a Terran version of a void ray. Guess what? Protoss don't have a unit that can effectively halve the HP of all Terran units. It also doesn't have a unit that you can easily use to kite enemy infantry. Nor can its Nexuses lift off and fly into the corner of the map because you feel like being a dick. I'm sure you'll also struggle to find a unit you can get out early game and cliff jump into an enemy's base with which you can completely shatter their economy if you micro it right. The races all have their strengths and weaknesses.
I don't play Terran.
well stalkers can kite but no other race has a staple unit that's as easily kited as zealots I think [editline]01:00AM[/editline]
I don't play Terran.
but we were arguing marines vs. voids for the longest time
I've never really played RTS's until SC2, so if someone could give me some tips, I'd be grateful. http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/55062-2v2-protoss-zerg-discord-iv
well stalkers can kite but no other race has a staple unit that's as easily kited as zealots I think
With micro they can be one of the strongest t1 units and they provide a great addition to your stalkers.
but we were arguing marines vs. voids for the longest time
Which is why I used Terran units. If you really want me to, I can write a similar paragraph, but replace Terran units with Zerg ones.

Thor + siege tank is even more stupid.
which are you
Oh woops, I'm WaxRock.
banelings with speed either gets one-shotted or killed by mass rines easily. honestly, I can't believe I'm agreeing with the most narcissistic nerd in starcraft, but Idra's right, we can't beat that unless the guys using it are newbies.
Go watch the end of Day[9] episode 164. Last question Day[9] answers before he ends the cast pertains extremely well to what you just said.
With micro they can be one of the strongest t1 units and they provide a great addition to your stalkers.
They are nice and I love them dearly but without charge (which is t2) all terran T1 will buttfuck them. Roaches will buttfuck them. They are great and defending chokepoints and in straight up beatdowns but useless if they're on decent ground and the enemy cares enough to micro.
An overpowered unit doesn't just have to be able to 1v1 every unit in the game to be imbalanced. I guess you guys are not seeing the point. Maybe if they removed the speed upgrade they would be more balanced.
How do you kite units?
How do you kite units?
Run away from a melee unit that's slower than you with ranged units. Attack once, run. Attack once, run. Attack once, run. Can also be done with longer ranged units than the enemy has.
How do you kite units?
Click away from your enemy then "A" click back. over and over again.
Attack -> Move before they reach you - ^...............................................................\ |_____________________________________| My ASCII art fails.

Maybe if they removed the speed upgrade they would be more balanced.
Pssh. I wouldn't know. Even when I get voids (rarely) I don't even bother with the speed upgrade. If I'm going T3 I'm going carriers. If I'm going stargate I'm probably going voids and don't feel like wasting money on a T3 building and upgrade. Though if the addition of that upgrade could push it over the border into overpowered in your eyes, maybe I oughta look into it.
Which is why protoss has phoenixs. Void rays Vs marines with a little micro you won't lose a single one (void rays that is).
yeah maybe if the terran player is fucking horrible the point is not to instantly kill them all the point is to make them useless so he has to back them up. he just wasted supply, time and resources building a unit that you've just made useless unless you give them an opening to use them. the only reason you have any problem with them is because you're giving them the opportunity to use them effectively.
I've never really played RTS's until SC2, so if someone could give me some tips, I'd be grateful. http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/55062-2v2-protoss-zerg-discord-iv
I'm only like 2 minutes in but here's a quick critique so far: -A little late starting the second probe -Not a fan of the third probe in the queue shortly after that. Delayed your gateway by 1 supply. [editline]01:13AM[/editline] -Continuously pump probes in the beginning. Don't let the nexus stop building. -Get your probe back on the mineral line as soon as it makes the assimilator. I use waypoints for that. B, A, place assimilator, shift + right click mineral line. [editline]01:14AM[/editline] -You have 300 minerals you're doing nothing with. Saving up in the beginning is utterly pointless. Use it on SOMETHING. A pylon, another gateway, something. [editline]01:16AM[/editline] The standard build order I use in early game is 9 pylon, 12 gateway, 14 gas, 16 pylon, 18 cyber core, and then wing it for there based on what you need and how many minerals you have. It seems to be quite efficient.
