You sound like a d-to the umbass, dumbass
I just left the practice league and in my first placement match and I won. I know I could have done better so I'm looking for tips. Replay: http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/57145-1v1-protoss-scrap-station Also I am EastBayWilly
I watched the game and you didn't make many outstanding mistakes, if any at all. I can say that you shouldn't have placed down that Nexus without being sure you could keep it safe. The real thing that helped you though is that he took out the rocks in the middle, cutting the run distance down. If those rocks were still there, he probably would've been in a better shape, as it would've given him time to get more units (he also got the wrong units, Immortals get wrecked by Zealots and Sentries are horrible in actual combat.) One thing you should work on is knowing when you're gonna place something down (ala build order.) You sent that probe just a bit too early for your first gateway and had to let it flutter around while you built up your resources.
You said you were going to re watch mine? :3:
How can you tell if your mineral line is saturated? I hear Husky and HD talk about that sometimes, but I can't really tell if I have enough workers or not.
You said you were going to re watch mine? :3:
I'll do that now (just minimized the game to get that post done) [editline]12:20PM[/editline] You guys have given me a reason to use the notepad that came with Starcraft.
Won 9 in a row, happy. Then lost 10 in a row, rage. :(
How can you tell if your mineral line is saturated? I hear Husky and HD talk about that sometimes, but I can't really tell if I have enough workers or not.
2-3 workers per patch. Visibly, it means that every patch will have someone mining on it while one is delivering the minerals. When you have 3 per patch, SCVs will be moving along the mineral lines hunting down for an open spot, so there'll be a lot more traffic going on. [editline]12:28PM[/editline] As a note: Normal Mineral lines have 8 patches, and Gold Mineral lines have 6 (although it may vary on some maps) This means you'll have 16-21 on normal patches and 12-18 on gold patches. As a Terran when your lines are fully saturated you can just saved up energy for Scans or MULEs on expansions (MULEs also mean you don't have to fully saturate a mineral line as quickly as Protoss or Zerg.)
How can you tell if your mineral line is saturated? I hear Husky and HD talk about that sometimes, but I can't really tell if I have enough workers or not.
When you got 24 SCVs on the mineral line as zerg or toss than you're doing okay under econ, as Terran its a little less at 2.5ish per mineral field.
I watched the game and you didn't make any outstanding mistakes, if any at all. And even then he could have rocked my base with his army that was knocking those down. And I should have gotten a pylon closer to his base a lot sooner, it probably would have ended the match quicker that way. Stalkers aren't effective against zealots if you don't micro them and he didn't micro at all. I tried to but I'm not good at micro/macro managing, I always forget to do things. Especially when I expand, it will often sit there for a few minutes doing nothing.
Can I get build orders up in this shit? I don't want to play random with my pants down
Can I get build orders up in this shit? I don't want to play random with my pants down
Go to sc2replayed.com and on the download page of replays there is a tab for build orders. Just go to high ranked replays and check their orders.
Holy crap, "Windowed [Fullscreen]" is the best option in all of existence. It lets me minimize my game and bring it back up instantly :aaa: [editline]12:52PM[/editline] Oh man Dash, now that I'm using something to write down mistakes, there are so many more problems that I wouldn't have noted earlier. I've got a pretty big list now...
Oh noes :ohdear:

Really getting into the campaign and enjoying watching HuskyStarcraft's excellent game commentaries, might have to fork over $60 to get the full game soon.
So, here's yet another replay of me vs. my friend that I'd like critique on, I forced him to play Terran so I'd have a chance this time though. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3794151/Jungle%20Basin%20-%20FP%20-1.SC2Replay
As a reminder: I'm no pro, and some of these are just nitpicks that I hate to see, so take some of my advice with a grain of salt. I also realize this is a match against a friend, so it wasn't taken as seriously as a normal match would be. The list is in mostly chronological order of when I wrote the note down, but some are rearranged for better reading and may refer to parts that are later or earlier in the replay

@Dash - Blue Terran (Dash) vs Pink Terran (Najh)

Took 5 seconds to start doing anything. It's a good thing to be able to start producing or gathering resources as fast as possible, 5 seconds of doing neither is cutting it close. It won't matter much in the long run, but at the beginning every second counts, especially in a serious match.
No control groups This is a very critical point. With control groups it'll be A LOT easier to maintain your units, your base, and your production. To do control groups you have to hit CTRL + #. Pressing the assigned number will select the group and double pressing it will snap your camera to their position (or whoever is closest if they're spread out). You could be making units while keeping watch of your army. As another note, Holding Shift + # will "Add" a unit to that control group instead of assigning them as the control group.
Not Shift-Queuing This is helpful for not having wait to manage everything your units do, especially workers. By holding shift you can start a queue of actions that'll all be done, so you could tell a SCV to build a bunker and then go back to mining without actually having to wait to tell him. It'll cut down on idle SCV time and you can use it to also make your army move to certain waypoints.
Sent worker on a move order to the ramp, but didn't actually order it to do anything A small nitpick, but you sent your worker out, and after he got past the ramp, that's when you told him to go back and build a supply depot. Just a bit inefficient.
Sent all workers to take out a refinery This one is self-explanatory, but I feel like you were just messing around when you did this, so not a big problem.
Built another refinery before even saturating the other Self-explanatory, you had only 1 SCV in the other refinery but were making another one.
Refinery on the left only had 2 SCVs on it Nitpicking again, you'll get more out of 3 SCVs instead of 2 (obviously)
Stopped producing SCVs Self-explanatory. You had 15 SCVs the entire game, same as your friend.
Upgraded Barracks to a Reactor Barracks without building any units out of it If he had any amount of units, he could've attacked you during that long period of time your Barracks is occupied with upgrading and you wouldn't have been able to do anything.
Didn't upgrade Orbital Command for a short while Orbital Commands are extremely useful, I usually get mine right after I finish my Barracks or first marine.
Didn't make active use of MULE's There were lots of times where you'd have a lot of energy saved up, noticed it, then called down like 2-3 MULEs. It's something to keep in mind that you shouldn't be having so much energy unless you're saving some of it on purpose.
Sensor Tower right in front of your base A nitpick, someone could easily come to the edge of your base and take it out.
No sense of build order You were just massing units, that's about it. You didn't have much direction with it.
Didn't notice a factory landing in your base and build a hellion until it attacked No comment.
Used Reapers to destroy a small priority building before sending them to kill SCVs SCVs are always more important than an engineering bay.
Excess Resources You should keep in mind not to have such a built up amount of resources, your army could've been double the size it was.
Had few producing structures You only had 2 Barracks, 2 Factories (1 of which wasn't used), and an upgraded Starport in a 30 minute game. Even if you were on top of keeping your resource count down, your units would be pumped out too slowly. 2 more barracks could make all the difference to building your army.
Made expansion late Self-explanatory, you waited until your base was almost mined out before you started making another Command Center
Made a Factory with a Reactor and never used it I was expecting to see you get some hellions and swap the building with your Starport for medivac spawning, but you didn't do that at all.
Could've pushed much earlier after Pink's attack failed Pink was left with nothing after he tried hitting your base, match time could've been saved if you had just attacked him there.
Ghost was openly taking out units, didn't Scan to reveal it. Self-explanatory, a pair of cloaked Ghosts were just picking away at all of your guys and you never bothered to throw down a scan (which you had plenty of energy to do)
Geeze, that took a long time to refine that. Hopes this helps you Dash, even if some of it is just me being a picky douche.
How do I upload replays? I just had a pretty shit match and I'd like some pointers to what I did wrong I'm a shit protoss and they're my best race
How do I upload replays? I just had a pretty shit match and I'd like some pointers to what I did wrong I'm a shit protoss and they're my best race
Replays can be found in the Starcraft 2 folder in "My Documents" or "Documents" (depending on what OS you're running.) Uploading is as simple as finding an upload site like Filesmelt
Okay got it http://filesmelt.com/dl/Desert_Oasis.SC2Replay I'm the protoss and be merciless I'd like to know as much as I can
The same way you upload any other file. Replays are located at Documents/Starcraft II/Accounts/xxxxx/xxxxx/Replays/
Many words!
Crikey, that's a lot to think on. I didn't actually know I could use the Orbital Command to reveal cloaked units which.. When I think about it is blindingly obvious. I figured out the shift-queueing thing in the following match where we decided to have some fun and enforce a SCV/Drone only rule. As for build order, I really don't know what I should be aiming for with that. I've asked for websites and references to see the common build orders and such but gotten no responses so at the moment I'm just cluster fucking. But yeah, thanks for all your help and effort. I appreciate it.
Bansheerushing go
I learned a lot from watching commentaries, they usually talk about openings and how effective they can be for what situations. You gotta take the knowledge from those and just build off on them to see what's effective against what. You have to learn when to modify your build to fit the current situation, but never abandon it entirely once you've started it and also have to have an idea about what you want to do with it besides "I want to defeat my opponent." Like when you got those reapers, you may not have thought much about them then, but you used them to harass and take out your friend's (brain dead) economy. See a Zerg going mass muta? Thors and Marines to counter air See a Protoss going mass Stalker? Marauders, marines, and a ghost to EMP their shields Terran going for lots of marauders and marines? Siege tanks. Your opponent has 3 bases vs your 1? Harass and then attack where their army isn't. I definitely recommend checking out this site: Liquidpedia It's not complete, but it has some pretty useful tips to find.
Okay got it http://filesmelt.com/dl/Desert_Oasis.SC2Replay I'm the protoss and be merciless I'd like to know as much as I can
I'll get to that now.
Mass Mutas kick ass in FFA. Sadly FFA isn't ranked.

It'd be cool id there was a list of what is effective against what or what is weak against what somewhere, not sure if there is.

-snip-
I'm so close to getting out of bronze in 1v1..I've won 19 games in a row and I'm still fucking stuck in it.
Isn't that a starcraft 1 list?
Watch Husky's build order videos for a good starter build order for each race, and use it as a baseline to create your own build order (plus you have to change some things around depending on what you plan on doing in a particular game).
