Starcraft II Megathread V.1 'Hell, It's About Time'
Learn to scout your base...Nydus is extremely easy to counter so long as you know where they are popping up. Hence why base popping is normally impossible. If you see an overlord, expect something to come after it.
Get Brood Lords and Corrupters to punch a hole in their defenses then fly in some Overlords, and pop the Nydus. They'll never expect it.
Here's a question for you guys: how does a Protoss player deal with cheesy rushes?
A friend and I just did a 2v2 match, PZ vs TZ, me being the Protoss.
It turns out they were both going cheesy, and I had just started making my first Zealot when they attacked with a quite massive force of Marines and Zerglings, there was literally nothing I could do to stop them from tearing up my base.
I mean, even if I would've scouted those proxybarracks on time I still wouldn't have been able to do anything about it, since I have to build a pylon BEFORE I can build a gateway, not to mention that Zealots are 100 minerals while Zerglings and Marines cost 50.
So... how do I deal with this sort of cheesy rushes as a Protoss player?
I second this, need answers.
Going to pick up SC2 soon.
Can people tell me how good the Zerg are now? Or how different they are from SC1? I'm a little behind on the times...
They're a bit more defensive by my experience though little experience :sigh:
I second this, need answers.
Wall in with your forge/gateway quickly, but not with your pylon. It's easy to focus down your pylon. Then pop a cannon and hope they can't take out your gateway/forge in time, which should take a while since they both have 500/500 hp.

A lot of people complain about how they are the hardest to play yet not quite on-par with terran and protoss, so far i've found it's all down to how well you can play to be honest (although i've done around 2 matches as zerg so far :v:)

Both you and your friend should already (combined of course) have a force large enough to deal with them. You just need to scout it and quickly start producing zealots and zerglings.
Oh and what matark said

If you watch the replay, we unfortunately missed the whole scouting as i sent out my 10th drone to have a look and spotted it too late, i was going for a 13-pool and they already had a barracks outside and some 6-pool'd zerglings on the way :v:
I think it just comes down to scouting it more then anything.
Did you chrono boost your probes and gateways?
Did you chrono boost your probes and gateways?
Yep, I always chrono boost my probe production after I get the gateway, I usually pump out 3 more probes before I chronoboost the first zealot.
I don't know if this is bad or not, it's just the way I like to do it.

Whenever i see you post i stare at that for a good 10 - 20 seconds :ohdear:
There was one time he got ninja'd while automerging.
I was grateful.

If I'm doing that then I don't even need the Overlord. You only need LoS to drop a Nydus, no creep is required. This is actually something I really like about the new Nydus. Ah hell I like everything about them!

Epic win. We got mostly eliminated, but one of our guys managed to make BCS and win the game from a hidden expo. Our 4v4 team just won 5 in a row o.O

Man I need to play Zerg more because I totally forgot

Block your ramp with a pylon at 9 supply and a gateway at 12 or 13, but make sure to leave one space between them. Then build a zealot and make it hold position in the gap left by your buildings. Congratulations. You can now fight 1 unit at a time, and by the time your first zealot dies you should have 1 or 2 up behind it to reinforce that spot. And if your ally is any good he'll come and attack the enemy from behind.
I'm probably going to stop playing zerg, it just feels so damn weak
Zerg is the only race that can't block the entrance ramp like the other races. The only way to survive is to rely on your units and micro. Kind of sucks that way.
Except early-mid game they can have a lot more units than anyone else really so they make up for it somewhat
Except early-mid game they can have a lot more units than anyone else really so they make up for it somewhat
Early/mid game is zerg's weakest part... We need to expand to make our economy match a terran or toss player's econ in the late game, but to do this we make ourselves vulnerable in the early game. Our late game is where we excel.
In the continuing saga of Dargon vs. The Internet (cannon rush edition), Ryukku demonstrates to me How To Six Pool And Build Things In Their Base!

(don't bother with critique, I was trying to watch my buddy play street fighter)
my friend and I just got delayed reaper harassed in 2v2 by about 50 reapers and somehow we won with him having lost his main and me my natural
[editline]10:49PM[/editline]
probably because they sucked ass and didn't press their huge advantage
Okay so I played two more placement matches. I tried playing as Zerg for these.
ZvZ - Win: http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/58748-1v1-zerg-blistering-sands
Description: In this match I tried doing a 10 pool so I can hope to get the best of my economy while being able to push out an offensive as soon as possible. I was intending to tech up as I harassed but my opponent rushed out Roaches which proved to screw him over as they were not economically friendly against a constant push of Zerglings.
ZvP - Lose: http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/58751-1v1-protoss-zerg-metalopolis
Description: In this match up I was not expecting the Protoss to rush me, let alone with so many zealots. While he had 6 Zealots I had that many Zerglings. I tried to hold off but when I saw he had Stalkers I knew it was GG.
Anybody wanna play some custom games?
Or maybe an 8 person FP FFA, that'd be fun.
So this is my first placement and my first 1v1 match. Can anyone tell me if I just did Zerg terribly badly or if his skill level was above mine?
I mean, I know that I sometimes forgot about things for a bit, and I didn't scout out his two stargates (which proved fatal when ~5 pheonixes came in and destroyed my econ by the time I had roaches), but I think that was kind of impossible.

Roaches should be able to attack air.

Man, I feel for you because you didn't do anything fundamentally "wrong" aside from the fact that you didn't scout. Zerg is a race of counters, you need to know what your enemy is doing. I'd advise moving you first overlord to the side of your enemy's base and then sneaking him into view of some buildings periodically so you can see what your opponent is doing.
Having said that, I would reccomend going either muta/ling or hydralisks if you don't know what your enemy is up to. Zerg is too vulnerable to air units to run the risk of not getting AA.

Then what are hydras good for?

Hydras have superior range and I believe a faster attack.
Roaches should be able to attack air.
Okay yes let's make roaches into cheaper(albeit not as ranged) hydras.
If roaches could attack air then their massive HP regen would have to be nerfed because they would be better than Hydras in most cases after that. People only get Hydras for Anti-Air or to support melee units. If roaches can shoot down air then they would be better support than a hydra ever could.
