Is it just me or did Valve to a pretty bad job on The Orange Box and TF2?

I mean seriously, Orange Box looks like some kind of professional 3D modeling software suite and TF2 is kind of bland given the extremely artsy content. I always thought they should've used one of the title screen art pieces for the cover.
Also a neat idea I always had for L4D was to make four versions of the cover art - each one using one of the campaign's movie posters as the cover. Would've been cool for collectors. And for the GotY edition that had Crash Course on-disc, they could've used the Crash Course poster! Brilliant! (God knows I would have bought that shit up, too. Missed opportunity, Valve!)
