I fell asleep while playing that game a few times.
It was literally this close "-" to being a great game, and it's a damn shame because all of it's flaws could of been fixed relatively easily.
Needs to have a tweaked checkpoint system and as other said, weapon degradation toned down tons. I think they should also do a much better job on the sounds, especially gun sounds. I was always disappointed by those. Then they need to attach it to the Far Cry universe, and keep those AI and gun mechanics, keep that damage/health system and maybe even keep the buddy system if it's tweaked a bit. I don't know really, it's a good game that sucks through being boring. All that open beautiful space to walk around in, and the best you could do was start a fire, kill a zebra once in a while, or have a shootout with a bunch of checkpoint pricks who are just stopping you to fuck with you.
When I was at Ubisoft Montreal for a game testing I saw a folder called Far Cry 3 but I was being monitored so I didn't open it.
I hate how the Farcry 2 trailers were full of "snipe people and sneak up on them". They also said it'd have great AI.
What did we get? A bunch of angry Africans constantly respawning at every crossroad :argh:

Not to mention every 10 minutes pop a pill for malaria, every 30 minutes run and do a mission for more pills.
And i'm laughing at stealth, It was full of bullshit.
Laying low in the bushes, a man with a shotgun patrols, doesn't see you but due to the fucking AI they're omniescent, turns to you, and shotguns you dead in a fucking second.
My biggest issue was the malaria. Shit is there just to move you along through the story.
FC2 must have been a great learning experience for Ubisoft. At least, I hope FC2 was a great learning experience for Ubisoft.
I don't get all the hate for FC2. Sure, it was a repetitive game, but I bought it on sale for 10 dollars and thought it was well worth the money. Considering that going to see a movie would cost around the same price, it was worth it. The combat was solid, and exploring was pretty fun. I'm guessing most people who claim to not like it are just getting on a bandwagon. Sure, compared to FC1 it wasn't too good but if you came into it expecting a game with all out shooting and minimal storyline, it was good.
You have to give Far Cry 2 credit for making one of the most terrifying moments in gaming: When you're walking and you hear a car engine rev up. You know you're fucked.

Well, yeah, it was 'good' if you bought it for 10 dollars. Ubisoft didn't really have the same idea when they released it.
Even though Far Cry 2 had it's far share of faults, when I stood on top of a hill with an RPG, and took out a convoy that drove down below, that was one of the best moments of gaming I had experienced.
To reiterate the point I said earlier, the AI was so lazily programmed that they hop in car and just try to run you down, which kills you instantly.
Oh god, if ubisoft released the SDK. Gaming itself might have changed. SO MUCH amazing tech in that engine.
Far Cry 2 was a complete and utter disappointment. It also didn't help that the gameplay was dumbed down for consoles (no leaning or prone).
On the bright side, its the first game I've ever played where Dx10 mode runs better than Dx9.
Make it more of an RPG with the loot but still a good shooter and they have my money
It could've been good if they didn't make every being on africa want your shit dead. And if the towns were better. And a more engaging story.

the malaria was pretty annoying as well. all it did was make you stop exploring to do some boring quest that took longer to get to than to actually do.
I usually hate scripting but I think that could have helped FC2

it gets REALLY boring doing the same thing over and over again. i mean come on tetris is less repetitive. some elements of the game had a really interesting concept, like weapons and vehicles. however the story was terrible. the malaria was amazingly idiotic. like, really fucking stupid. litterally nothing gives any kind of "definition" to far cry 2 except the malaria part, for its stupidity. they could have created an amazing game but i'm guessing because of the release date, they rushed it.
The online of Far Cry 2 I enjoyed for a while.
Cool things in FC2 were ambushing convoys.
I always barricaded the roads with vehicles and planted some explosive charges. When the convoy arrived I blew everything up and quickly rammed a remaining vehicle and killed everyone using the mounted machinegun.
That were great moments.
If FC2 had co-op, it would be such an amazing game. But they excluded co-op because consoles couldn't handle it.
I fucking hated when i spent a few good minutes clearing a big camp walking a few meters out then going back in to get shot in the god damn face from re spawning enemies.

Just because you don't have a pair of useless keys that turns the player's view slightly, it's "dumbed down"?
This is sort of good news but on the other hand it's going to have that horrible Ubisoft DRM for the PC version..
I liked Far Cry 2 but what kind of ruins it was the fact that you don't actually get to choose your side and hates you and only you. The game world is populated only by mission givers and enemies, nothing else. It would've been great if you could actually decide who you work for and in exchange would get that faction's help in firefights etc. FC2 also screams for co-op which wasn't featured in the final product. Here's to hoping that FC3 would address these concerns.

hey let's not get in a temporarily invincinble steel casing around us and hit this dude with a car killing him instantly
hmmmmm
Bad news;
Before amending his profile, Michael Khabrov had "Undisclosed First Person Shooter" for the same platforms listed with the game containing "exotic gameplay," scripted events," and "cinematics." And Marc Echave had Far Cry 3 explicitly listed on his profile before taking it down.
Scripted events aren't a bad thing, too many scripted events are.
