What if russia joined germany
i'd play that game
The Darkest Hour is crap. Seriously I rather play vanilla over that mod.
As long as I get to be german.
I liked the Juno map very much, tons of action for a game where intense firefights don't usually last longer than half a second.
Installing DH.
Mare Nostrum is dead just in case anyone was thinking of downloading.

Whaaat ? why ?
I liked it and there's a good amount of servers.
Just watched the videos for the sequel. I can not wait for 2011 now.

Well still the mod isn't that great as people claim. I don't like the maps and the new guns are meh beside of the M1 Garand which is decent. I also get high ping servers and it isn't the fault of my internet connection.
I'll stick with the normal Red Orchestra.
My main problem with DH is that the uniforms are so similar that friendly fire kills way too many people. In RO you can tell between dark green and that disgusting Soviet piss barf yellowgreen, but the color plus the fog on the maps makes it way too hard.

Also DH has higgins boats it's super cool.
Probably because they get to play as Americans/Brits. Most people in the west tend to forget how essential the Russians were in winning WW2.
(Don't think I'm supporting Russians or the US specifically here. WW2 wouldn't have been won unless they both entered the war.)
To be fair, everyone would have been royally fucked if the Russians hadn't entered, but an uneasy peace could possibly have been achieved had the Americans not entered.

I think the game is okay though. It could be better of course, like you said, the uniform similarity causes a lot of friendly fire. Also, the hand models could be aligned with the guns better, and the Bren Carrier has a glitch that makes the gun unusable.
Still a nice game. I remember doing that one map that involved the 101st Airborne, Easy company. Playing as a german and fighting my way through the first line was fun. Foxhole-to-foxhole combat in that game is intense, I have to say that.
Why is it that when I have low framerate all the player models spazz out and spin around like a retarded carousel?

Because you touch yourself at night.

And everyone would have been fucked if the Americans hadn't entered. We needed each other.
Didn't realize we had a thread for RO.

That is amazing...i think that was a tear running down my face there...
I just had an interesting experience. I was on that one map, the one I can never remember the name of. It's the huge one where the russians have a very light tank that soldiers can ride on the back of. Anyone remember that one?
Anyway, I was playing as a German rifleman, and we were attacking the farm. My friends were driven back by the Russian counter attack, leaving me behind. As Ivan closed in, I engaged with my Mauser rifle. I had some luck, I managed to engage some enemy riflemen in a running firefight that went all around the farm without getting myself killed. I even managed to take one out.
By that time, enemy reinforcements began to arive. I was forced into a small room with two doorways on opposite sides of the room, a long window extending the length of the room on my right, with one doorway next to it on the far end of the room from me, and a pile of crates filling the room. You may know which room I speak of.
Hiding in there, a group of three riflemen and one Officer with a PPSH-41 engaged me . I managed to avoid their fire by dodging around the crates, and managed to take out one man. My weapon wasn't suited for indoor combat of course, so I had some difficulties.
Eventually, the situation became essentially the enemy firing through the doorway on the left, and me taking cover behind the crates and returning fire as best as I could. Then, they gave me a barrage of fire, forcing my head down, and used the oppurtinity to get the Officer and a rifleman sprint through the opposite door, and put fire on me through the window. I was now taking fire from two sides.
I couldn't take cover from both groups of men, especially with the Officer firing through the window. There's not much more to say other than that I was caught by a burst, ending the engagement.
And all this time, my team had been taking their sweet old time getting back to the farm.
TL;DR: Sorry, but the story is too complex for a tl;dr. Read it, you lazy bum!

True, we did do a lot.

Hmmm. You are speaking of Hedgehog, I believe, and the Russian T-60 tank.
Hmmm. You are speaking of Hedgehog, I believe, and the Russian T-60 tank.
No, it wasn't Hedgehog. This one was more linear, and the tank was smaller than a T60, much smaller.
It's the one with a huge number of objectives. And I think it's also the only one that has a usable AT gun.
I love Darkest Hour. But I have to say some of those maps are just too damned big. Even for 50 players.
I really disliked Darkest Hour, and Mare Nostrum. They both felt really unpolished for me, and the maps seemed horribly imbalanced.
I mean, the Browning .30's sights in DH aren't even lined up right. The bullets always end up off to the left of the sight.
Some of the snow maps are really fun though, especially the ones with dense pine forests.
But, all in all, I still prefer RO over the other two. The Russian weapons are just so goddamn fun to use.

I can name several maps off the top of my head that have usable AT guns. Can't help you.
Also, just for reference: what does the tank look like? What size is its barrel? Does it have a machine gun? etc
It's a pity that there are literaly 0 players on the Mare Nostrum mod.

It looks a bit like a BTR with tracks instead of wheels. It uses a low-caliber gun, the rounds of which appear more pointed than normal rounds on the HUD. It has a higher rate of fire than a normal gun, but has much less penetrating power. No, it is not a 20mm cannon, it is larger than that. Think of it as the kind of gun paratroopers would bring with them if it were mounted on a carriage.
I think it has a machine gun, but I don't remember exactly.
The map has a good mix of indoor and outdoor combat, with a fairly extensive russian bunker complete with trench system halfway across the map, and small villages scattered throughout.

Oh, does it fire single shots at a time? If it does, it may be a BA-10 armoured car. It uses a 45mm gun, the same as is mounted on the T-26 Tankette I believe. Or it may be a T-26. I don't know if any maps have them.

I think it's the BA-10. I think. I would have to hop into the map and check it out. Unfortunately, I am waiting for something rather important and don't have the time.
I also thought of Hedgehog first, Farming Barns and such does fit the map quite well.
