The USSR didn't enter the war, they were defending their homeland for the most part

And as such, they entered it. No matter how you look at it if they hadn't been provoked and dragged in, or entered it as I say, Europe would be a good deal different.
To be fair, everyone would have been royally fucked if the Russians hadn't entered, but an uneasy peace could possibly have been achieved had the Americans not entered.
To be fair, contrary to the popular picture painted, if it wasn't for the Eastern Front, the US would've got royally fucked up in Europe.
Contrary to popular belief the Russians didn't single handedly win the war and if it weren't for a few dumb decisions by Hitler they would have had their asses handed to them on a silver platter, and if it weren't for the American/British strategic bombing campaign they still would have lost.

That may be true, but it was still the deciding factor that allowed the US to face mostly green conscripts with poor supply lines rather than hardened elite troops with full supplies and armaments.
Operation Barbarossa, in my opinion, was one of the worst things Germany could've done in it's situation.
Hopefully the environment in the second game will be more dynamic, it was way to easy to spot enemies in the first one.
Anyone else find the semiautos infinitely better than the bolt actions?
At medium range you can pretty much kill anyone with ease and at close range it isn't even fair when you fight against someone with a bolt action.
what really made Hitler collapse in the eastern front was his ego. He could not stand that there were other super powers, and he set out to destroy there names. One in particular, Stalin(grad). the original plan of the german army was to capture the oil fields in the southern USSR countries. then he split his forces half for oil and half for stalingrad. (dont quote me on any of this)

What the Nazis did to Stalingrad made me rage.
Finally took the time to actually play this, and it was pretty good.
Next I'll figure out how to actually use a tank.. Any tips? Oh, and although no matter how realistic it is, friendly fire still annoys me.
Well, I played this again after uninstalling it like 6 months ago because I got annoyed with it.
It's not that bad, gets pretty boring sometimes though. Getting shot from across the map is annoying, random grenades are annoying. I played in a tank server with some other FPers for a while, discovered that tigers can one shot everything from across the map while everything you shoot bounces off of it. :colbert:
The sequel looks like it'll be better though.
I just hate it when there is hardly any sniping, and if you don't get early enough, you can't become anything but a rifleman... So you got to rely on picking up someone's good and staying alive which is hard to do.

Or you could be a douche and steal their stuff. Of course it's always common courtesy to ask first. "Can I kill you for your gun?" You never know, they might say yes.

They did a hell of a lot more than anyone else, however. There can be no argument about that.

Someone who's skilled with a bolt can kill a guy with a PPSh-41 in close quarters, consistently. So, no.

So, don't be a marksmen. If you hate when there is "hardly any sniping", my guesses are you aren't a very good sniper in the first place.
The Gewehr 41 and 43 are pretty good though, they have good ironsights and are pretty accurate even at long range. And of course semi automatic.
Still bolt action rifles are insanely badass and make the game awesome.

I prefer the SVT-40 for the sole reason that it has a bayonet.
i enjoy ramming tanks with t34s in RO and ramming german tanks with Cromwells in Darkest hour.
usually this happens:

also infantry in ro is pretty shit. tanking is where it's at. i dislike the fact that if your ping is over 100 your bullets will take 20 minutes to hit the target.
Bullets take time to travel regardless. If you ask me infantry combat is the more fun and intense side of RO.

Agree.
I love to bayonet fights, although they happen rarely.
You guys still recommend buying this game, or are the servers pretty much empty ?
You guys still recommend buying this game, or are the servers pretty much empty ?
Whenever I play this there are 3 servers with 50 players almost full,2 european ones and 1 US one
You guys still recommend buying this game, or are the servers pretty much empty ?
Darkest Hour still has loads of players on regularly and that's a mod. Not sure about the original but i presume there's just as many players.
There are enough servers there to play it, although sometimes I get high ping and I can't choose certain servers.
Alright, thanks guys.
If anyone wants to add me on steam: Waterstyle
RO/DH are the only games I play these days.
Bayonets seem strangely ineffective in this game, I once stabbed a guy in the back in an apartment, he calmly turned around and shot my in the stomach, killing me instantly.
Am I doing something wrong?

Lol, no.

They happen a lot, it's just that they're usually over instantly, because one person knows how to use the bayonet and the other doesn't. Occasionally, you'll get two people who know how to use the bayonet or two who don't, and then you'll have a fight.

Charge it up for just a bit before stabbing, or stab very rapidly. One half-way pulled back bayonet stab will almost always end your enemy's life.
It's a pity RO didn't have a better squad system from the get go. If people operated as squads when playing infantry they'd be oh so much more effective. Don't even get me started on why assholes keep failing trench assaults on DH.

Squad systems aren't necessary for coordination. I've had some really great matches where both teams worked as a team. Intense, high-casualty battles they were.
