Welcome to the field of honor brother. Yes i love when i get a kill because its actually challenging, i recommended this to my one steam friend, he got it and he hated it said he could never get a kill. Its because he sucks and is impatient.

Wow punch your friend in the middle of its face. Make sure its the middle....
I don't know why, but I like regular RO more than the mods. DH and MN are good mods, but MN is too unpopulated and I feel that DH is just... missing something. What I really like about regular RO are the maps. Especially the tank maps.
most people do.
I like vanilla RO a tad better because of the combat pacing. With DH, there's a lot more semi-automatic and automatic weapons in people's hands, which leads to run-and-gun gameplay on smaller maps. There's the occasional kid running around spraying in vanilla, but that isn't very common.
Is there still a good online community for this game? It's decently old but it still looks cool. I'm thinking about getting it.
Is there still a good online community for this game? It's decently old but it still looks cool. I'm thinking about getting it.
Yep, theres always at least 2-4 full servers and the rest are all moderately full. At least for vanilla anyway.
On a huge map where the germans were defending, I was playing as the germans. We had been pushed back to the last point so as I spawned and tried to get to the frontline, four of my teammates are lying on the ground, waiting to get out because there is a fucking tank and infantry covering our only way to the frontline. So, being a good Wermacht soldier, I bravely jump out from the ledge, fall down and hurt my legs. I crawl towards the frontline with bullets shooting everywhere. Two behind me get killed so I stand up, ready my gun and gets shot by the tank. This game is fucking awesome :buddy: [editline]08:50PM[/editline] Another war story from DH. On some map where the USA are supposed to charge the german line and capture some points, I am playing as the USA. There is a long line of bushes and shit that makes for good cover so I am running along the bushes, crouch running because I don't want to be shot right away. I get to a place where you can run through the bushes and attack the first german line. I see and hear germans on the other side shooting and yelling so I take my gun and blind fire. I miss everyone and becomes a target. My weapon gets shot out of my hand and I get hit in the arm. I lie down and wait for the firing to cease. As the germans stops shooting at me and massacre my friends, I slowly crawl forward and find a hole that I can look through. I throw two grenades at the germans and starts running towards the first line. The grenades explode, killing no one. I jump down in the trench and kill two germans. I turn around and shoot the MG. I continue and blind fire to supress the germans long enough to get help. Bad idea as all the germans advance on me. I panic, stand up despite not being able to see shit because of all the bullets flying at me, I start to shoot only to get killed from a friendly grenade. I see four-five friendly soldiers jump in the trench and push them back. Best match in a long time :3: [editline]08:52PM[/editline] Also, killing Vlad The Impaler with a bayonet :v:
I fell down the same set of stairs two times in a row, once. My legs exploded in a shower of gore.
I remember once, I was just walking or running somewhere or something and there was another guy in front of me. A tank shell hit somewhere near him and he just literally exploded in my face. Not a pretty sight, I'll tell you that.
I don't remember what map it was, but I was playing as a German machine gunner in this tank map in a big cityscape. I was just wandering around lost and this enemy tank pulled up right next to me. It didn't see me because I was in cover but if I tried to run it probably would have. I decided to get out the grenade and suicide rush it, and just as I rounded the corner and stood up one of the friendly tankers said "NOW" over the mic chat and the enemy tank explodes 15 feet away from me. I managed to not die the rest of that game, and killed two bailing tank crew members with my MG42.
Someone should start up a group that focuses on Partisan and Guerrilla tactics rather then professional Military tactics. You always see these 506th Airborne or whatever groups, never anything like what I have described.
I love this game so much, I seem to prefer Ostfront in comparison to the mods, it seems more stable and polished. Gonna go play it now.
I wish i had more steam friends to play with >.>
New media release from Darkest Hour today. I love the game, absolutely fantastic, can't wait to play the new content. The 29th infantry division has a 50 man server combined arms that is almost always full. Many new maps too. when will the DH team fix the terrible weapon animations for the Allied forces
when will the DH team fix the terrible weapon animations for the Allied forces
Possibly with the next update. I'm sure in a couple days they will post a more comprehensive change log. [editline]30th November 2010[/editline] Also, Darkest Hour featured in PC Gamer magazine. Seriously can't wait for RO2 either, speaking of which.
The new trailer is awesome. Gives a good preview of the new tank interiors. In some ways though, I think RO2 is being dumbed down a bit to attract a larger audience which is good, I like to see Tripwire as a company grow. But I am confident in modding communities to apply more realism to the game.

Even if it is being dumbed down, as long as RO2 still has pretty much one hit kill infantry combat of the original, and the shells bouncing off of tank armor and killing nearby stuff that it lands on, I will be satisfied
Is that a fucking jagdpanzer IV in the background I see there?
Yeah looks like it. That new update is gonna be amazing.
Hopefully there will be a hetzer in the update.

I felt like the game had just a small pinch of a lighter feel to it to attract new players. However, I know there's a Realism mode as well as the regular Core mode, so I think RO2 will still bring a very realistic experience in at least the former of the modes.
Would you say that this is worth getting still?! I've read through the tread and it looks pretty awesome, just wondering if many people still play it.
I always end up having to wait for a spot on a server, so yeah there is still alot of people playing it.

Try to play some of the new infantry maps on the 29th company server. http://29th.org/ Right now they are playing Arnhem, which is a recreation of this real battle. The first German assault is difficult, but things change when they break through and enter the city. Whoever made the map did a great job, it's really accurate. Nowadays the bridge is named after the Colonel who attacked the bridge during Market Garden. (John Frost Bridge)
