You should put stone stairs all around it to make it "rounder".
I was considering doing that actually, but considering some of the stairs end up at awful angles sometimes im not too sure.

Ok, so, I'm new to Minecraft.
I've been playing single player Alpha because I hate effing griefers.
Question: is there any way to change the spawn point in Alpha so I don't have to walk a billion miles to my base? I understand that the walk of shame is supposed to make you careful, but I was looking for a cool place to start building and there was a 1x1 square hole in the ground that I accidentally walked into which led to a underground vertical cavern that lead to my death.

You have to make a Workbench by combining 4 wood blocks
Then right click on it, tadaa, 3x3 crafting grid.
