In minecast episode 5 notch said something about maybe making wet sand when water touches it, and you can place it places and it is not effected by gravity, but wit dies out. When dry, it still sticks up there and acts as any sand would now, falling when triggered.

I found this really weird cave, it was like a long shaft and at the top was sand, it was just there and not affected by gravity. As soon as I touched it it all fell down.
I have become addicted to Minecraft these past few days :D
If they added steam achievements for minecraft, i'd be okay with this.
