I had an idea for an item. Steel bars. They work like sticks for tools, but make them sturdier, giving a 50% increase in durability. They can be used to give tools more hits before breaking. A diamond pickaxe which has over 1000 hits can be made with steel bars instead to give it over 1500 hits.

Have you ever seen a tool with a steel handle? Chaging the handle will not affect durability.

I've seen tools with fiberglass handles. The point is that wood could be the first thing you use, but later in the game when you're working on big projects like giant bridges or massive tunnel systems, you could have the option to use better parts for an even more durable item.

I have never seen or heard of a tool being broken due to a broken handle. the handle isn't the part that's being worn.
That being said, it's not like Minecraft is trapped in reality and I like the idea of another way to upgrade tools.

If the wooden handle of a tool isn't properly coated in varnish, moisture can get in and rot the wood from the inside. Eventually it'll crack.
I remember I was chopping wood (in real life) and I swung too hard with the axe and the top of the handle broke off with the head still attached.
(to be honest I was just messing about hitting a stump at the time though)

On TH's server, you have to place a block above the furnace with a space between, then use the /lighter command to set fire to the bottom of the floating block. That'll get the furnace going, all you have to do is give it some fuel and whatever you need to smelt.
Also, don't leave the area with stuff in it, it'll disappear.
