Only the games you have in your library (that work with Linux.) [editline]8th December 2012[/editline] Because nautilus is awful, use PCManFM/Dolphin. Also I like Openbox for it's huge amount of support, but that's just me
I thought Serious Sam 3 came free with the steam linux beta? At least that's what I heard, I might be wrong though.
It was a demo
You did have access to the full game for about a week I think, but it was pulled now that the beta is much larger and they aren't getting worthwhile feedback.
valve is giving up on Intel GMA support? i won't be able to play at my laoptop
not true, i remember see games talking about intel graphic on linux. http://store.steampowered.com/app/1200/ notice the mention of "Intel GPU with hardware-accelerated drivers" other games like amnesia, talk about "integrated gc, as low and budget" MGHT not work, so maybe capable intels can handle it. and other indie games just need the ram of teh graphic card. http://store.steampowered.com/app/204060/ Or prefer make references to technical graphic requeriments. http://store.steampowered.com/app/221830/

my point is, that some GMAs are enough for source (in windows) like the 4500MHD. btw if anyone has black screen issue with sandy-bridge like gpu. add the x-updates ppa :\
What thing was I supposed to install if I wanted to run the beta on Lubuntu?
What thing was I supposed to install if I wanted to run the beta on Lubuntu?
Proprietary video card drivers, most likely.
I do have those. It's that when I try to run the Steam beta nothing happens at all.

That either means they've nailed the linux optimization and took advantage of its minimal overhead or the engine is tuned down (like how TF2 on Macs are (or were AFAIK) running in DX8 mode).
Didn't they say that L4D2 runs on Linux faster than on Windows?
Didn't they say that L4D2 runs on Linux faster than on Windows?
Yes, but their test specifications weren't exactly old hardware either.
Hardware Intel Core i7 3930k NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 32 GB RAM Software Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit Left 4 Dead 2 Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit
source
Didn't they say that L4D2 runs on Linux faster than on Windows?
It did, until they applied the same optimizations to the Windows version. They're pretty equal now.
like how TF2 on Macs are (or were AFAIK) running in DX8 mode
Close, TF2's limited to DX9 on OSX and Linux.
Why would a mac be running in DirectX mode?
The games still call DirectX functions, it's just that the engine catches them and translates to equivalent OpenGL functions.
Close, TF2's limited to DX9 on OSX and Linux. The games still call DirectX functions, it's just that the engine catches them and translates to equivalent OpenGL functions.
That doesn't sound like a very high-performant ideal way of doing things. I hope VALVe starts going OpenGL only (with subsets like GLES and the like, maybe), to avoid all this mis-match stuff going on.
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but why do games like "The Binding of Isaac" need to be ported to linux or run under Wine. I thought that it was SWF based?
Compiled into a Windows .exe container, and the Steamworks integration process is also a Windows executable.
i got AMD HD4550, can anyone tell me which drivers are working with team fotress 2?
i got AMD HD4550, can anyone tell me which drivers are working with team fotress 2?
Both the Free and Blob drivers should work with your GPU.
i got AMD HD4550, can anyone tell me which drivers are working with team fotress 2?
If you mean a ATi Radeon HD 4550, then use the open source drivers as the closed source drivers only support AMD 5xxx series and above.
If you mean a ATi Radeon HD 4550, then use the open source drivers as the closed source drivers only support AMD 5xxx series and above.
OH WTF!?!?! is valve screwing with me? i guess the open source drivers can't run source right? :\
If you mean a ATi Radeon HD 4550, then use the open source drivers as the closed source drivers only support AMD 5xxx series and above.
Wait is that true? I had though they still had support for the 4xxx series. That's a bummer.
OH WTF!?!?! is valve screwing with me? i guess the open source drivers can't run source right? :\
They can, but you'll need to enable support for S3TC in mesa, done by either installing the libtxc_dxtn package, or doing some hacking around with driconf (iirc). I haven't gotten it to work on my Sabayon systems though :c
Wait is that true? I had though they still had support for the 4xxx series. That's a bummer.
Well the 4xxx series is pretty old by now, so uh. My desktop computer, which is about 6 years old, has a 4670 in it. I can see why they've dropped support.
