Does anyone know if TF2 now works with older drivers (and therefore older cards) ?
-snip-
I am downloading tf2 on linux, but it bugged out and is always on update paused, is there a way to fix this?

What drivers do you have in mind?
Does anyone know if TF2 now works with older drivers (and therefore older cards) ?
TF2 works with ATi Radeon HD2000 and above, but using the open source drivers requires you to install a libtxc_dxtn package to utilize S3 texture compression patents, which TF2 requires.

Can't really remember. I think I had version 11.8 or something while you needed version 11.13. I have a HD 4850.

Thanks I'll try that
I recently installed Ubuntu, and when I try to launch steam, nothing comes up. No windows, no friendslist, just nothing. I installed it from the steam site's download. And again in Terminal, nothing worked.
_EDIT_
I just restarted my PC since it wanted to install updates, and it works now.

I keep having this error. Steam overall is very slow and TF2 does not work at all. I'm using the 64bit version and it was pain to install. Any help? Thanks.
I think they must have fixed a texture bug in TF2, cause not only am I no longer getting weird textures stretched all over my screen, but TF2 runs at 300fps on my HD7850.

Do you have synaptic open? If yes, then close it.
Staging versions for DoD:S and HL2:DM with Linux clients have been added.
TF2 and CS:S got staging clients as well, but these already have Linux clients.
Anyone tried playing TF2 inside an ubuntu vmware instance?
I've installed latest Ubuntu version on vmware, with latest vmware tools to emulate graphics and what not. Then installed and updated steam, also downloaded TF2.
When I start the game, I get a weird OPENGL error that has to do with older GPU cards (I have GTX 560ti) and I can't do anything to fix it.
I've tinkered and installed latest nvidia drivers for linux, no luck, and I managed to even fuck up the entire ubuntu install.
Any thoughts on this?
You won't get it to work in a vmware machine even with 3d accel enabled. However even if you get the error message, it's enough to unlock your tux.

I'm not saying that these are bad games, but shouldn't they port first the bigger games (as in number of players and such)?

It's probably just testing / setting up for the bigger games.
Got tux from vmware even though i got an error message about opengl or something.
Steam actually showed im in game for a sec.

They are being ported to SteamPipe, the Linux client is just a "leak" of their internal ports.
NEED DOTA2 ON LINUX!:tinfoil::tinfoil::tinfoil:
What's up with the tinfoil? DotA2 is coming to Linux later on, be patient.
You will have to follow those up with the developers themselves.

But weren't L4D2 and Portal 1 among the first of the Source games ported to Linux? You'd think we'd have them by now. Oh well.
This last update was really good, TF2 jumped in performance quite a bit on my laptop. But man the loading times are still terrible, it takes like 3 minutes to load a map.
something is wrong then because it should probably be faster than windows in any case
unless you used NTFS for linux or a slower HDD

Something is clearly wrong, but it's also slower to load on my desktop PC in my Sabayon system running ext4 across the board, than it is on Windows 8.
But on CS:S it loads normal fast. I guess it's a TF2 problem.

Is it wrong though I can't see why, it much slower than Windows 8. I tried several ways, a Logical partition with ext4, Primary Partition with ext4, wiping Windows completly off and even gave btrfs a go. It still takes a longer than Windows.
That and micro-sutters when Multi Core is on, are the only issues I have, otherwise it's a fine port.

I think they will improve the load times when its done XD.
Edit: Its half done XD
Someone is having issues with the microphone in tf2 ?
Steps:
1 Open tf2,
2 Join in a external server (non local)
3 join in a team, choose class, play for a minut.
4 Use ingame voice comunication, notice that it appears to work, since the voice icon appear on the right zone.
5 press scape and go to options, voice , Test voice.
i talk loudly , but i can not ear myself in the test, also the player in the server apparently dont recive my voice neither.
My bind key is caps -
Aparently there are servers that allow me having voice comunication and others not allowing me.
In Example:
93.93.65.96:27045 --- me(linux) and other players (windows) can talk with microphone.
93.93.65.38:27015 --- me(linux) can not talk (not even in the Options/Voice/Test voice) and other players(windows) can talk.

New performance patch out, try again. It's faster on my Linux box now than on Windows.
