The day all the games on Steam are available on Linux, is the day I switch to Linux.
more like the day new games are available on Linux. The old games would run on Wine fine, it's the new games that are the problem
Does anyone know how to create a custom resolution in the AMD drivers? My monitor's EDID chip is fucked up, and it reports the max resolution being 1024x768. In Windows I could just tick "Override EDID chip" and just select 1920x1080, but the linux drivers don't have that option. Which is funny because the nvidia drivers don't have that option in windows, but they have something similar in linux.
The day all the games on Steam are available on Linux, is the day I switch to Linux.
Only the AAA games won't be given Linux ports. And to be honest; I don't give a shit if I can't play Crysis 3 or Call of Duty.

I bet in this decade this will start to change. It's just that people need to know what advantages Linux offers in front of other OSes and apply that to the companies.

I thought that most Valve games were AAA games...
I thought that most Valve games were AAA games...
some people here like to think of valve as an indie studio :/
some people here like to think of valve as an indie studio :/
Well, Valve doesn't rely on a publisher for financial support.
Well, Valve doesn't rely on a publisher for financial support.
indie in the sense of 'small company with mostly low budget games', not independant as it should be known
Well, Valve doesn't rely on a publisher for financial support.
Valve is a publisher...
They also rely on EA for physical releases.
They also rely on EA for physical releases.
Didn't they say that EA wouldn't publish their games anymore sometime before the release of portal 2?
Aren't all Call of Dutys ported to mac? I don't know why they wouldn't be ported to Linux.
I don't know why they wouldn't be ported to Linux.
Porting software costs money. Money that Activision wouldn't want to spend on such a, at the moment, niche market. I believe Linux could become much more mainstream, and Steam for Linux will definitely help, but it has a long way to go.
The only reason people care that indie developers are indie is because generally indie devs are nicer to people and software. Just like Valve.
TF2 seems to be available for everybody now.
TF2 seems to be available for everybody now.
Yup, that does seem to be the case. [editline]19th November 2012[/editline] Actually I'm pretty surprised at how good this looks - everything from AA to AF is maxed. Minus some stutters here and there (and bad mouse sen-- oh.... forgot to turn that up, no wonder I was constantly dying). [VID]http://f.elup.me/qhYO-ZWb.mp4[/VID]
TF2 seems to crash for me at the mainmenu
TF2 seems to crash for me at the mainmenu
What distro? Also I went fullscreen (well noborder) and enabled the mouse hardware acceleration and I'm still getting 60+ FPS with everything maxed and the stutter apparently went away.
What distro?
TF2 seems to be available for everybody now.
I'm too short minded, does this mean it is available even for non-beta testers, or am I missing something? EDIT: Just checked it out, it is. How long will Valve take to block it again?

-snip solved- EDIT: The game runs like wind, but there are letters and numbers missing in the in-game GUI. Anyone having this?
Could not find required OpenGL entry point `glGetError'! Either your video card is unsupported, or your OpenGL driver needs to be updated.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I have the latest proprietary Nvidia drivers installed. [editline]19th November 2012[/editline] It's when I try to launch TF2. [editline]19th November 2012[/editline] Was just out of date drivers. Anyone else having to validate TF2 Files whenever you want to start it? I find this quite annoying.
TF2 doesn't even start for me... Gotta reinstall it tomorrow...

Sweet. [editline]21st November 2012[/editline] I found a really hackish way to get TF2 to run in fullscreen Disable borders for that window and maximize from my taskbar :v: No stretching involved either, impressive
