steam client update takes ages on 12 megabit/s [editline]23rd November 2012[/editline] Team Fortress 2 crashes silently. PulseAudio installed (idk if it helps tf2). Unplug every USB device. The game kept crashing because of my USB mouse, though if I unplug it and the replug it when then game after the game booted it worked.
Same thing for me, except deleting /dev/input/js0 fixed it.

So I tested TF2 on my Radeon HD 4890 with FOSS drivers. Works fine, could be smoother but I'd pin that to the graphics drivers. Currently I have everything on low to be sure. The only thing that didn't work in my quick test was exporting replays. By quick test I mean 3 hours of going on a server and being a pacifist medic that only healed others. Top of the score board! Towards the end I was more griefing than anything due to the server's lag. I'd run in to spies in corners and just push in to them until they uncloaked, then ran away dodging their bullets. Rinse and repeat. Due to lag I could just jump around places and hardly get hit by stuff like pistols, so in one case I spent a good few minutes just jumping around the courtyard with an enemy sniper trying to SMG me. Then my team came along and wiped him out. I also saw a scout taking the intel. So I blocked him, and dodged his shots until he figured out to use a bat.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, trying the -nojoy worked great.

Are you using mesa-git or something, because the current version of mesa I'm using only supports up to OpenGL 3.0, and TF2 requires 3.3. Enlighten me!
Putting -nojoy in the Launch options apparently fixes this.
Thank you! I was at my wits end trying to get it to launch. I had tried dissasembling the minidump that breakpad creates, but because it is closed source I didn't have any symbols. I kind of skimmed over the whole debate concerning windows vs linux, but open source is one of the main selling points.
S3TC stuff?
lib32-libtxc_dxtn
How can you just not care for security Don't come crying when you accidentally rm -rf /.
Fun fact: most distros don't even let you do that anymore, even with root. rm is compiled with the option that you have to specify --no-preserve-root, because accidentally typing a space after the slash is so easy.
-snip, mint installation fault-
Works great on my x230T on Lubuntu. Feels more responsive then windows.
[SUB]Ive been having trouble launching steam, I just uninstalled and reinstalled it. Steam://open/friends doesn't seem to be working on any of my browsers, I'm asked to update "/usr/bin/steam" after installing it and then I am unable to open steam in any way. Any solutions? Also, sorry for snipping it before. I was going to ask for troubleshooting on this earlier, but I figured I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling first before I made a fool of myself.[/SUB] EDIT: Didn't uninstall everything last time. Managed to find all the files for steam and remove them manually, and also uninstall then resinstall. Currently working, I don't even have to use the browser workaround to open it, despite not being invited to the beta. So, not entirely sure what's going on, but it seems to be working out.
Huge invite wave just went out!
How huge? I got in too.
Do I just login now... Or what?
Did you get an email or was it a notification through Steam?
Did you get an email or was it a notification through Steam?
You get auto-added to the Linux mailing list and get a confirmation mail from the ListMan.
Serious Sam 3 was added to my Steam games when I got the beta. Did this happen for anyone else?
Serious Sam 3 was added to my Steam games when I got the beta. Did this happen for anyone else?
happened to me I hope it doesn't disappear after the beta :B
Didn't get in still

Still didn't get in :suicide:

Well Steam appears to be working pretty smoothly on Arch, bit of a pain with two monitors still, but I'll live.
