Whenever I try to start it on lubuntu nothing happens, ugh.
I finally got Ubuntu to comply with the graphics drivers. Reinstalled the headers and the drivers a couple of times. Finally worked. But now I have the problem that all the games I have, don't work. Serious Sam crashes on startup and gives me an error about Compiz. Killing Floor, when changing the resolution it freezes and you have to restart or logout to get rid of it. Does anyone have a way to fix these issues?
OSMOS closes instantly too.
Compiz is only going to give you problems. For instance, if you manage to fix it, it will limit your fps just to 60 FPS.
OSMOS closes instantly too.
Yeah, your drivers and such appear to be fine, so I presume it's compiz.
Yeah, your drivers and such appear to be fine, so I presume it's compiz.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
Any suggestions on what I should do?
Get a different window manager.
If you're running the game in fullscreen, you should try the windowed mode instead.
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTIzOTI kwin is the best. allows you to choose between opengl or xrandr window rendering.
I've got Serious Sam working, but with very low FPS compared to Windows. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/0D037.jpg[/thumb] The problem now is that the 310 drivers cause text to look blurry. I've had this problem in the past with NVIDIA drivers. Is there a configuration file for Killing Floor saved somewhere? EDIT: Fixed the blurriness... It was rendering text with FXAA... After a giant fuckup, complete format, and reinstall later I finally got it to work. [t]http://screencloud.net/img/screenshots/34427b24cf5d2f1a8e9928a9a189ef00.png[/t] [editline]2nd December 2012[/editline] Does anyone know how to fix the reversed mouse icon bug?
I still have to get the invite. I feel bad for using it when I wasn't supposed to.
Does anyone know how to fix the reversed mouse icon bug?
If you are on Arch, you can install gnome-cursors-fix from the AUR

Linux is good.)
I still have to get the invite. I feel bad for using it when I wasn't supposed to.
I think valve are intentionally not fixing this bug. Letting more people in but still having an organised sort of system from the actual invitees just provides them with even more help
Anyone having trouble with high cpu usage in TF2? I try to keep my eye on it, but it must have gotten out of control because my cpu overheated and caused a kernel panic :v: Might back off until I'm actually in the beta, or it comes out of beta.
Seems just fine for me, same with the rest of the games. Killing Floor runs exceptionally well.

So far the only problem i've seen is that when multicore rendering is activated, my shadows and text mess up. Should I report this to the hub?
So far my experiences with certain games: Team Fortress 2 - Great FPS (80-90) maxed out. Text disappears with Multicore Rendering. The menu music when choosing a class is broken though. Serious Sam 3 - Plays okay, but has a huge difference in FPS (25 vs 70) compared to it's Windows counterpart. Killing Floor - Freezes when changing resolution.
Surely games by design will use all the CPU available? can you compare this to windows or OSX?
I haven't compared with windows, but then again I've never had the CPU overheat in Windows that I can recall. i3-status reports idle core temperature of my laptop at ~40-50*C, with usually about a tenth of a core of CPU activity while browsing the web, checking email, etc. When I start up steam it jumps to almost a half of a core, and in-game TF2 it can rise to just under five cores (I have two cores multithreaded, so five cores is maxed out with a core's worth of overload, if I understand this correctly) which usually corresponds with a lot of activity on the screen and an accompanying dip in FPS and/or freezing. This is when the temperature rises; idle temps hover around 70-80*C in-game, but it can approach 90 or more while under duress. I'm not trying to point fingers, but I'm just posting my experience in hopes that a solution materializes. The fact that I'm using a laptop doesn't help, but after the panic I took an air chuck to the vents to clean out the fans of dust.
Yay, got invited yo the beta :toot:
Invites are going out, my co-worker just go one...
I got in as well. There's really little to no difference to getting in using work arounds though.
Yay. I got in! Strangely enough, I didn't get any kind of notification... other than the whole steam fucking up for the last hour or two... [editline]6th December 2012[/editline] Now I received an email...
Some news since this thread doesn't move very fast:
The beta time period for Serious Sam 3: BFE has expired. For those people who have downloaded the game, your local content (including any saved games) remains and is playable if the game is purchased. For more information, see this thread.

Well, how many other games (that are otherwise not free, unlike TF2) were available for free for Linux testing? A few demos, but no full games at all. I thought so. We decided to step forward and gave this for free so as many people as possible can test it. The original caveat was "until the end of the closed beta". But the size of the beta is now getting so large that it is hard to consider this a closed beta. The number of people is nearing the order of magnitude of current owners of the game. The result is that we are getting a lot of bug reports, where a significant number of them are not helpful. The beta was intended for Ubuntu 12.04. Now we have reports from people running exotic home-made distros with custom kernels and some window managers no one ever heard of. We definitely support the ability to do so, but you should _first_ complain to the maintainer of that exotic artifact, not to us, if you find problems there. In short, the traffic here is getting too busy. We don't have infinite resources to handle it all, so we have to back down a bit. From another POV, you can consider it as a beta test for commercial viability of this Linux build. If no one will buy it, then... hm.... will we maintain it? :)

Some games' storefronts have been updated to include Linux system requirements: Book of Unwritten Tales eversion Serious Sam 3: BFE
