I'm surprised Blizzard is saying gear is going to be replaced early on in Cata. Didn't they not want to do this anymore like they did in BC?

It's becuase they need to force a very quick gear reset with the new stat changes and new mastery stat.. thing.

I'm thinking of a server transfer (US) when Cataclysm comes out because if it was anything like last time, none of the raiding guilds would accept me, even though I was on par with gear? I can't make any sense out of it either, and it always put me behind the rest of the server.
A good raid guild shouldn't look for good geared people. Getting someone geared is very easy and very fast.
It would make much more sense to look for the people who are good at their class.
It's easier to sort out out dated gears rather then teaching someone how to play their class.
But I'm geared (even though I wouldn't say it was "very fast") and I'm good with my class.

I just don't have connections with enough people to get me into a raiding guild. And one time I was, they wouldn't take me into their raids even though I was geared enough and did like 6k DPS.
Then you aren't finding good guilds. Use the realm forums, advertise yourself well, fill out application forms with care and attention, showing yourself off.
