The books don't fucking count. Master Chief is the last Spartan, end of. [editline]03:10PM[/editline] @above: you could buy it for every of the now 5 Halo games.
Pretty sure i read somewhere that bungie said the books are canon.
So yeah I know some of you will know but for those that don't, in the new 'Deliver Hope' trailer that came out you see how Kat lost her arm and Noble Six you seen picking up the bomb was the old Noble Six, Thom. I can't remember if this was how Thom died (and subsequently brought Spartan B312, our Noble Six) or if this was just another mission but Kat and Cartner both claimed the responsibility of Thoms death when he went solo and tried to take on the covenant himself - Which is possibly when he took the bomb alone to that Covenant Vessel. Either way, that's the old Noble Six and how Kat lost her arm :p
Wonder what planet that was on, then. Noble Six wasn't shipped to Reach during the battle. [editline]02:28PM[/editline]
Pretty sure i read somewhere that bungie said the books are canon.
This is true. The books are considered pure canon.
Which is why they are not concerned with continuity with said books in Reach. The books have elements from and are based on story from the Bible, which is the ultimate source of canon. But it is those elements alone that are canon. Having heard what I have about the Bible, chances are characters like whatsherface and thatguy's (fuck can remember) detailed exploits in the books might be developed from a single line of text from the Bible. Something like "and there was this spartan III program which was like really cheap compared to Spartan II and stuff."

The ground ops in Reach coincide with the space ops in TFoR(before it was raped).
No, they said they were going to focus on making it a good story over fretting over little details in the book.
....its possible that he(the Rebel Spartan) continued to live in the wilderness of Reach.
On some missions of the game, or in multiplayer, you'll probably be in a forest or something, like in the first level, "Winter Contingency". There may be a way to find a secret path deeper into the forest. In it, you'll see a Spartan run at you and kill you before you have the chance to do anything. In multiplayer, it would say "Killed by the Guardians". It would be the best easter egg ever. Kind of like the monkey people in the forest of Halo 3.
Finally found confirmation with the trailer. It doesn't take place on Reach and it details how Thom died and how Kat lost her arm. http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Thom-293 and this: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=23004964&postcount=5255 Should help anyone who wasn't sure.
Thanks for presenting me with the second use for a block function ever. I appreciate it.
Speculation =/= Spoilers.

I wanted to get the slim, but I have my day one 360 still, got really attached to it, haven't had any problems with it since day one.

"A "Director's Cut"/Extended Version of "Deliver Hope" will premiere September 6th, 2010 exclusively on YouTube." Awesome.
I miss the Blomkamp ads, his CGI style was supremely convincing.
Oh shit That explains the whole thing about Kat feeling it was her fault.
Well Carter feels guilty, too, so there's no explanation for him.
This armor this guy has is so sweet. I'm so hyped up to customize my own armor. Especially when I was in the beta, I spent more time in the armory than I did in-game because of the level of customization.

In the beta I always felt like I never had enough credits for anything. Everything felt so damn expensive.
Well Carter feels guilty, too, so there's no explanation for him.
Because hes the Commander of the team. What happens to his squad is his responsibility.

They cost quite a lot.
No you won't, unless you want to save credits for a long time. They cost quite a lot.
I'm fine with that.
While game canon has priority over the book one, that doesn't make them irrelevant at all.
It does for me, because they're shit. In fact one of the reasons I am interested in Reach is because they said they weren't going to be overly concerned with conceding to the book and just do their own thing.
Following the book would have made a terrible game anyway So, if the Halo bible is "shit", would you disregard it too?
A game based on the Halo books would be pretty boring.
Pretty much, but considering Bungie are the ones who made the games as good as they are, and also wrote said bible, chances are overwhelming that it isn't.
If based on specific parts, it could be fine, but the books as a whole? Nope.
Oh wow, I was looking through the full armory video again, and I just noticed that one of the chest pieces replaces your right arm with Kat's robotic one.
A game based on the Halo books would be pretty boring.
I agree, though some bits of some of the books would make good missions. It'd be pretty cool to see a Halo game set before the covenant war, playing as the Spartan II's during their insurrectionist campaigns before they received MJOLNIR.
