That would be the awesomest thing ever. But do you know how cheap that would be? Make a tall tower that you spawn in with unlimited rocket launchers a spartan lasers. THAT WOULD FUCKING OWN.
Well of course you wouldn't get achievements etc on on forged maps. It'd be really fun though.
Holy shit. I just read an IGN review of Reach's Firefight mode on the GameFly app. Incoming wall of text.
Firefight is back in Halo: Reach and Bungie is making some big changes. The core idea remains the same -- team up with up to three other friends and fight waves of Covenant invaders. After playing several different iterations of Firefight at a recent Microsoft event, I realized the script has been rewritten so drastically that the experience feels entirely different. Here are the five biggest changes being made to Firefight for Halo: Reach and how they make it a whole new ballgame. Matchmaking Who didn't see this addition coming? Firefight was introduced in Halo 3: ODST, but you could only set up a game with people on your friend list. That made the mode rather useless for those out there that don't have a lot of friends as interested in Halo as they might be. In Halo: Reach, you're free to play with anybody online also looking for a partner. Now what does this mean for the four player co-op campaign? Perhaps we'll finally see some matchmaking added there, too. Wave Limits and Time Limits This is huge. In Halo 3: ODST, skilled players could go hours upon hours. There was no end and Firefight turned into a test of endurance. That's nice for some people, but it can be exhausting for others. This option is still available in Halo: Reach, but it isn't the default way to play. If you hop into a quick Firefight game, you'll find the skull progression altered and only one set of Covenant waves. The games have a time limit and unlimited respawns turned on as well, which means a default Firefight game only lasts about 10 minutes. It feels more like a quick arcade game than a massive test of skill. The Toys New toys are on the way which shouldn't be any surprise. Armor abilities, including the new Shield Drop that plops down an area-effect healing bubble shield, are in. New weapons like the Target Locator that calls in air strikes are there for your amusement. Little weapon drops come falling from the sky, offering powerful weapons to take on the new Covenant AI variants that come streaming in. Nothing special, right? Well, don't dismiss all of the new toys as nothing more than expected additions. Jet packs alone will completely change the way a team of Spartans should approach Firefight. The new guns and abilities are powerful, so much so that they made the default Firefight mode seem rather easy on Heroic difficulty. Customization Of course, if you don't want to play a short game, Bungie isn't forcing you to. In fact, they're not forcing you to do anything in Firefight. You can edit just about any option, tweak any setting, and even set up your own skull modifiers and weapon loadouts. You can then save all of your custom options, slap them in your file share and let the world play your creation. It's like having the freedom of Forge, without the map editing tools. Though I wouldn't rule out Forge options in Firefight just yet. Bungie seems like they may have a few tricks up their sleeve yet. Rocketfight This is one such custom variant of Firefight that Bungie had on hand (the other was Generator Defense, a tweaked version of what many of us played in the multiplayer beta). The game is played just like the default Firefight mode, only every loadout comes with a rocket launcher and ammo is unlimited. It is awesome. Jet packs and rocket launchers are such a natural fit that I don't know how they didn't come together in a Halo game sooner. ©2010-06-16, IGN Entertainment, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Reach was defeated in a week at most (the fight on Halo took about a week, plus stuff from First Strike minus the slipspace crystal). Actually, now that I checked First Strike, Reach lasted maybe a day at most. There's a pretty illogical thing about the glassing though. The Covenant glassed most of the planet, leaving a hefty area around the mountain which held the slipspace crystal. That's pretty dumb, since glassing means burning out the atmosphere and plasma bombing all oceans and landmass. You can't do that halfway, the atmosphere is going to escape no matter if you left one quarter of the planet untouched.
Eh, I wouldn't put too much weight on information available in the books other than a rough turn of events. They already said continuity is a lesser concern, and the primary concern with the story would be to make it good and surprising in the context of, y'know, already knowing the ending.
Halo is, in my opinion, the most fair competitive game on any console. It's the greatest skill based FPS shooter and the reason for this is the accuracy of the weapons, reliability of things like grenades to react as expected within the game mechanics (i.e. frag grenade will not begin 2 second explode timer until it has bounced off of a surface) and the regenerating shield mechanic (allowing for most one on one battles to be determined by the strength of the player and not who has more shield from previous encounters). This, and the improved power abilities in Halo: Reach (like the active camo that is weakened while running and gives an indication on the motion sensor), makes Halo number one on my gaming rotation. And the campaign is epic not only alone (for the story) but also played with friends (metagame challenges and skulls etc.). I couldn't improve the Halo series and I think after all these years they've done an amazing job blending hardcore competitive play with social fun.
I always thought this. Halo 3 is one of the (if not the) most balanced shooters on 360.
I got to agree, it's very well balanced. The health system is pretty well designed and the weapons in all have pros and cons. Maps are okay, though there are some which I fucking hate.
The one thing about Halo weapons is that every single gun is useful. No more "pistol is backup only and otherwise useless"
Except in Halo 2.
I had my best game ever a while back with one Mongoose splatter, one grenade kill, one or two Warthog gunner kills, and then 11 or 12 AR kills. Other people use Laser, I say fuck that and proceed to rape them in close quarters. Very balanced game, all weapons are good. And holy shit have you ever tried dual plasma rifles? It fucking owns. [editline]01:18PM[/editline] Downloaded Halo: CE off of marketplace. Time to kick names and take ass! Wait, shit.
I LOVED the Halo 1 M6d pistol <3
I LOVED the Halo 1 M6d pistol <3
Too bad it was the best weapon in the game. One hit kills Flood, Hunters, Grunts and Jackals. Extremely effective against Elites, except when there's more than three of them.

I love the new one in ODST, the silenced version. Very badass.
I love the new one in ODST, the silenced version. Very badass.
I haven't played ODST. Can you recommend it?
Well it's fairly short, but the campaign offers a nice story. Also firefight is quite fun if you have some friends to play with. Another great thing (for me) that they put a whole second disk of the halo 3 multiplayer, which I don't own. All in all for 20 € which is not expensive. For me it was a great deal.
The one thing about Halo weapons is that every single gun is useful. No more "pistol is backup only and otherwise useless"
Very true except the magnum unless your on team SWAT or prepare to drop modes. People ignore the SMG too much in Halo 3 despite if used right on its own it was superior to the assualt rifle.
so anyone want to play firefight? [editline]05:01PM[/editline] or co-op?
please?
Bah, all my friends ever do is play MW2. They liked Halo before it came out and they never said a word of hype about MW2. But when it came out they were all like "LOL FUCK HALO MW2 IS BETTER CUZ ALL THE COOL KIDS PLAY IT HALO IS FOR NERDS". Fuckin' friends, how do they work?

Same, except instead of Halo, there was Warcraft 3 :ninja: Sure, we played all the new games when they came out for a while, but always came back to WC3... Fucking MW2.

When I play Halo all my friends are like :byodood:. Then I'm like :bandwagon:.
When I play Halo all my friends are like :byodood:. Then I'm like :bandwagon:.
Ah huh. And?
They're like...um...no we're not, it just sucks. There's no emote that I know of for that.
playin ODST gonna complete legednray an make a big ac hievement
They're like...um...no we're not, it just sucks. There's no emote that I know of for that.
That's kind of a buzzkill. I was expecting some epic battle to the death. With controllers.
The halo games, no matter how much the next one sucks, will always have a place in my heart :3:
That's kind of a buzzkill. I was expecting some epic battle to the death. With controllers.
More entertaining alternate ending: Then they pull out the 360 controllers that they always keep in their pockets (just in case). And I'm outnumbered 5 to 1, but then my invisible pet unicorn Steve comes over and impales one of them through the stomach with his horn. And it's pretty awesome with my friend just floating in the air with a hole in him. Then my friends start beating me with their controllers, I summon the powers of the dragon, punch the ground, and they all go flying because of the shockwave I created. Then I transmorph into a dragon and eat them.
Just had a very intense firefight, one friend of mine and I managed to survive 92 minutes, it was so fucking crazy.
