The thing is, GMan basically seems to control everything in the HL universe, so until we know what Gman is up to we don't know if any of the characters are helping the HL Universe or not.
Adrian Shepard has Wrex on his side

And that's why whenever I play Mass Effect I always think of Opposing Force. Shepard is such an overused name for military characters.
i agree
This thread made me reinstall OpFor.
you know
Gordon wasn't trained in combat.
He was a theorical physicist.
Yet he still managed to do the following:
- Free the vorts from slavery
- Kill the mastermind leading the escape to Earth (read Raising the Bar)
- Kill tons of aliens
- Survive an alien invasion
- Completely obliterate a Combine Citadel, crush around half of the Combine Overwatch and save some rebels.
Adrian has done the following:
- Stopped Race X from invading after Nihilanth failed.
- Disarmed a nuke.
- Got betrayed by his own employer (Black Ops)
- Killed a fuckton of aliens
- Survived Black Mesa
Now about guns, they both had experimental weapons.
Only thing is, Adrian had MORE weapons than Gordon (sniper rifle, machine gun etc.)
So, Gordon was at a disadvantage yet managed to accomplish more.
And G-Man doesn't even help that much. The only times he saved Gordon was when Black Mesa blew up and when Citadel blew up.
G-Man saved Adrian when he was about to be killed by toxic electrical waste, when Black Mesa blew up and.....that's it, really.
Two times each.
I haven't play OF so I don't care, but whatever people say Gordon Freeman isn't much of a character. As far as I know they intended the player to feel more involved and thus didn't give him a personality. All we know about him is what he's done during the games and his name, age and profession. Comparing him to an actual reasonably-developed character is a bit silly.
And I really hate the people who said "lolo he kills aliens all alone so bad-ass". It's a game. You're the one doing all that shit with an empty shell of a character. And is he really a scientist? All he did was shoot, push buttons and cause a resonance cascade. He probably got his PhD illegally in the first place. Lame.
Gordon is only as good as you play him. So if Gordon sucks ass, so do you.
That was pretty much just suggested in this page alone somewhere.
Although as nifty as it would be they'd have to go to the trouble of making a trailer about it. Plus it's going to involve lot's more time of scripting and shit because there's another guy there, it's not like the Portal 2 co-op, because they are two different people other than one robot with the protagonist.
In Portal 2 co-op you don't play as the protagonist (chell) more one robot. I do believe you play as 2 robots.
PC gamers identify with Gordon more because they (we) tend to be "smart" people.
I'm pretty sure Gordon went through physical training because of his handling of hazardous materials. The tutorial level of Half life was an obstacle course and was named the Hazardous environment training course. I distinctly remember there being a firearms training section.
Unless of course, the entire training section was non canon.
I feel like I could have typed that better.

In Portal 2, you play as Chell. In Single Player. In Multiplayer, you play as the bots.
That's because G-Man used Gordon and not Shephard. That argument is invalid and stupid.
Gman chose to offer Gordon a job and not Adrian. Seeing as Gman seems near omnipotent, I'd say there's a reason for that.
Adrian Shepherd is a trained soldier who had to do his job. Gordon Freeman is a scientist who picked up a crow bar and decided to kill every alien.

Buuuut G-Man mentioned something about Adrian reminding him of himself about adaptation and personally put Adrian into sleep where he could harm no one and vice versa. While Gordon's more direct in the entire thing, Opposing Force was all behind the scenes. Generally speaking, I think Gordon's the frontliner and, if Valve ever brings Adrian back, Adrian will be used to fuck major shit up in the background once more.
tl;dr, Gordon's the big hero, Adrian's the secret weapon.
Father Gregori. He had neither a HEV, nor HECU's armor, but he has killed a shitload of zombies. He has survived that war, he has lived in Ravenholm. He was just a priest. Gman didn't help him. He is better than Gordon and Adrian.

/thread
He was crazy your argument is void. Also never say /thread, it just makes you sound like a fag.
This entire argument is retarded.
People like Gordon more because he was made by Valve and had a second game.
Also Opposing Force, Blue Shift and possibly Decay are canon. Deal with it
so the weapon selection and the 'powered reactive armor' was just an accessory?
Power reactive armor, wasent that to protect from potential explosions or something? Weapon selection is a must in everything! :science:
